We may need to prepare ourselves, given the latest polls. What if most Americans actually joined-or voted for-or like-"The Cult". What would this mean for the future of civil society?

Would elections at the Federal level still continue? "Who needs 'em.? We know who the Winner really is!"

Would resistance to Putin still continue? "Who cares what happens in 'You-Crane'? Putin never criticized me for punching an atheist faggot."

Would protests against police brutality still be allowed? "BLM communists outta be locked up- who says they can demonstrate?!"

If most American voters prefer The Cult to the regular politics, what does that say? "I'm so F...ing tired of politicians! Trump is a regular guy- he talks like me!" What if it's just a hefty minority of American voters?

What happens when the 'Regular Guy' Cult takes over politics?

They can prove exactly what t***p is charged with and that is what they need to do. Nothing in the indictment requires that the documents be either classified or shared and they need to leave it that way.

Ah, yes, the glorious Dead Parrot sketch. If only we could have the "this is a Late presidential campaign, singing in the Choir Eternal....this is an Ex-presidential campaign." And while we are at it, let's hope for an Ex-GOP.

Hi Charlie.

'Thought I'd share this with you, since I didn't know if you saw this.

Yes, his message is always a false defense: the law of the land is the villain.

For some reason, "Tied to the Whipping Post," seems like an appropriate summation of that part of the population which would actually put the whiney wannabe-dictator back in the White House. If it happens, The Lost Cause will be dwarfed by The Last Laugh and epitomized by the image of MAGA Degraded Democracy Taking A Slow Ride Through Dealey Plaza...

As a legal matter, if Trump deserves an impartial jury without knowledge of any of the facts against him before the trial begins, where do we find a jury of Unibombers or Randy Weavers?

1st Trump is a psychopathic narcissist. I wish it were said more often.

2nd Trump "s biggest contribution to his base is his legitimizing racism.

The bottom line is making America white again; everything stems from

that .

We have justice personified in Jack Smith. I pray he can right the wrong

I think what he legitimizes most is the idea that it's quite acceptable to break rules (i.e.., violate laws) in the fight against your enemies; and that if the institutions try to uphold the rules against a transgressor on your own side, it just proves that the institutions are corrupt.

Charlie as you have often stated,Republicans have had many offramps before but they haven't taken them. For the life of me I can't see what Trump will use as a defense now because of the audio tapes.Because MAGA and their ilk are conspiracy minded, they'll probably go from fake news to deep fakes. I am no lawyer but that tape scares me. Because it is audio only there is absolutely no way to prove whatever paper he had was marked classified, that is unless the other people in the room will testify that it was. IMHO the only thing that tape gives you is that t***p admits he could not declassify anything after he was no longer president. As for DOJ leaking the tape, bear in mind they have had it for months, it only leaked four days after t***p's lawyers got it.

I have a difficult time understanding why republicans still feel the need or desire to support trump. But then I have a friend who was born in Ukraine who tells me that there are still strong supporters of Putin. It’s complicated, bizarre, and dangerous. I would have a very difficult time believing republicans at this point. Politicians regardless of party do not always tell the truth, but embracing a serial liar is pretty unforgivable.

Thanks for letting us revisit that wonderful Monty Python sketch. It is all the more hilarious now that it serves as a prime satire of GOP gaslighting.

My main concern is that most of the Trump cultists I know (yes, sadly, some in my family) would not find this sketch funny. In fact, they would probably not understand why the distraught customer (John Cleese) doesn't believe the pet store clerk (Michael Palin) when the clerk keeps repeating "The parrot's just resting."

Yes, he travels, and he can see that. But any discussion with him is hopeless. He believes what he believes, kind of the religious fanatics who think that the universe was created 10000 years ago and that the evidence of fossils was a plant by God to try their loyalty. You cannot have any kind of rational discussion with these people. It is not difficult to understand why Trump have them believe that his election was stolen. They are so easy to get dupped.

I think Elise Stefanick should win the National BS award, or maybe the National 'Opportunist' award. I hope some trustworthy non maga GOP candidate primaries her....if there still is such a person. I don't know who I find more disgusting, Stefanick, My Kevin, or Lyndsey Graham.
