We are living in terrible times. We have allowed our country to be hijacked by a monster. Something has to break!

Adrian, your reporting is amazing and I just want to encourage you to focus on the concentration camps, the conditions, the funding, the medical care or lack therof. The incarceration for profit of people for something that is not meant to be putative but clearly is. The ovens are next

Thank you, Representative Castro, for showing us what compassionate leadership looks like. I wish I believed in hell because I would like to see the authors of these cruel policies consigned to the fire. I know it is a terrible thing to wish on anybody but perhaps these subhumans should have to witness unbearable cruelty perpetrated on their own children. See how they like it. Additionally, there should be a law against anyone working in the Trump administration sporting a big gold cross. They are not Christians. As much as they want us to believe they are.

Grim. Beautiful. Thank you.

We need to send a truckload of bunny hats so that every child can wear one in their plea for release. Maybe give cute headgear to every child in every city with ICE on the ground. The Bunny Hat revolution.

Between the time you posted this, and when I read it (Saturday, 10:45AM), the Trump administration has gone to court to request Liam be deported; the judge questioned this "expedited deportation"; DHS replied it was just "standard"; the judge denied this request.

They will not stop, so we can't -- on to the next cute "poster child" for the fight against authoritarianism and illegality. I saw a story on a 2yr old (!) who had the pink headband with bow. If it tugs at the hearts like the St. Jude commercials...

While we all speak up, in our own way, where are our professional organizations? Can't the bar associations even put out a statement restating the rules of professional conduct, and consequences for breaking them?

I know, whistling in the dark -- the AMA just came out against gender surgery for minors.

I am in tears. How much of a monster do you have to be to wish this on a child? I know…not me.

This whole story is heartbreaking, but especially the last part:

Meanwhile, back in Dilley, there are plenty more Liams. “All these parents, with TVs in the rooms, they all heard stories of Liam and how he got out, so they want the same thing for their kids,” Ayala told me. She says that family members have been texting her photos of their young relatives and asking her, “Please put them up online so people can see.”

They want their kids released, too.

How could anyone see this and think that America is ‘safer’?

Oh, yes Great Orange Leader, protect us from the baby rabbits- make them suffer. Give children nightmares. *Now* we can be great again!

I know evil when I see it happening, every day, in my country.

Damn them all.

Thank you for documenting these stories. I fear this is not the end of the story for Liam and his family. What a cruel country we've become!

Great reporting as always Adrian. This gave me hope in our Democratic leaders as well as breaking my heart. No child should ever be put in a cage.

Thank you for the follow up of Liam’s story.

Terrorizing the Hispanic and Somali communities of Minneapolis is the point of these outrages.

Stephen Miller illegally moved his family into a General Officer's mansion at Ft. McNair in DC after a demonstrator stood on the sidewalk in front of his house making bad gestures. The wuss was "terrorized." The houses on McNair were constructed in 1903-05, so are over twice the size of modern general's houses.

Adrian,

Thank you so much for the heart you poured in to this. I'm trying to imagine writing this story and stopping every 7 to 10 words to dry my eyes and... so again, just thank you.

With all of that, I have a question; do we have any sense of:

1) how many kids are being held at Dilley?;

2) what the churn rate (I know it is a gross term in this context, but really, how many come / go in a given week)?

I have an idea for sending these kids a trinket / gift / message and want to know what the needed volume would be.

And, really, really, really, really, thank you so much for your work, words, care, and thoughtfulness. I am so glad you are part of our Bulwark family.

Liam's family is still being targeted by DHS for expedited deportation. This unspeakable and thoroughly un-American regime can always be counted on to double and triple down on petty vindictiveness and cruelty.

Adrian, I know that you are part Ecuadorian. I’m a “gringo” who has lived in Ecuador for more than 11 years. It’s time to pay attention to the after effects of ICE maltreatment.

I thought you and your readers might want to know how the local press is covering the issue.

Some translated quotes:

"We're in hiding, we can't go out," Adrián Conejo told Univision's NMas in an interview. The father explained that Liam is still recovering from his experience at the Texas detention center.”

“Liam still asks his father why they took him ‘to that awful place’." His parents try to comfort him with games, reading him stories, and other activities to keep him occupied, Adrián said.

"My son is still very affected, he has nightmares at night, he wakes up several times a night screaming."

There is much more that was written. The article (in Spanish) is at:
