again love to read the text that tries to reveal the reality that we live in thanks again will

there was a time year ago we had a daily newspaper dropped on our doorsteps we then could read writers like will who daily revealed what was going on in our community ,city and our country's problems we must face as citizens. we still have newspapers local and mostly reality based.

I don't think of Trump or his supporters as "conservatives."

linda wasson's avatar

they are radical based conservatives wish to retain what is best and change when needed radicals want to burn the place down France and Russia still recovering from the rage and violence from the left and right Americans have always found the way that benefits we the people

Sad to watch a confidence trickster in cognitive decline. All hail President Vance! Which is guaranteed to be much worse in my opinion. YMMV.

Thanks Will. You have stamina, I gotta say. As for the fat felon, the pucker factor is getting worse. His demented speech with McDonalds people sure seems like he has lost any marbles he might have had.

linda wasson's avatar

as with all partisans the vitriol seems to be worth the effort. im not a trumpinista but i think the almost complete cartoonish attack against the president

don't lose the truth that over 50 percent supported him of course his dementia going un realized by republicans in congress is at the heart of his decline and we keep kicking the dying dog and think we have nailed it think not

All these MAGA-fevered conspiracies, whether intentionally or not, obscure any real focus on actual issues that face the American people -- how to put food on the table, the increase in food costs, energy costs, housing costs, etc. MAGA seems unconcerned with the huge increase in the Federal debt, Trump taking government financial positions in private companies, the Administration bombing what they call drug-smuggling boats, with no evidence or other conservative issues. I'm a political independent, but I used to respect the fact that the Republican Party stood for conservative principles -- sound fiscal and monetary policies, free trade, the value of limited government, helping the environment, and so on. This version of the Republican Party is a reflection of Trump. It's not pretty to look at.

generalizing a supposed political group identified by inials only what if democrats were dfg or republicans were pfbs would explain american politics mgreen is pulling into her own lane

Jeez louise. I really like clicking on the tweet receipts and seeing how much Will Sommer spends on the online universe! Don't envy that life, but somebody's gotta do it! This is a "fever dream" of a piece. ;)

"Why was this one different? Precisely because Trump allies had said for years that the Epstein documents would implicate Democrats, leaving MAGA salivating for the revelations."

As I noted yesterday, from early 2001 until 2009 one each Donald J Trump was a registered Democrat per Wikipedia and other sources. Curiously, that decade was the one in which Epstein did most of his "business" and for at least half if not more of it, by his own admission, the Felon and Epstein were close friends.

Now one can wonder if Blondi Bondi will decide to obey the Felon's directive to the letter to investigate "only Democrats", but somehow I doubt that DJT's name will appear on her list.

Colleen Kochivar-Baker's avatar

The targeting only Democrats comment is only going to backfire on almost every other Trump revenge prosecution currently ongoing. Defense lawyers will certainly use it as more proof the DOJ is bringing baseless charges and then inventifacting evidence and court cases.

David Court's avatar

Timing may be important. He only said that very recently, meaning that the Comey and James prosecutions may not be affected. Then again, from what I am reading, those two may not need extra help thanks to Hapless (Hopeless? Helpless?) Halligan.

linda wasson's avatar

yes david but a clearer explanation of the charges leveled is necessary its in the weeds when you sign off when confronted with a boatload of paper because you either trust the issuer or need the service you too could get a backlash this one says that if you say your mortgage supports your only living in this residence and not renting it out either require these institutions to clip the legalize or no business must be required legally by statute

David Court's avatar

Linda, thanks for going into the weeds, but this all is now OBE (Overcome By Events), at least for Comey, and possibly James, too. Unless of course what is now known as SC(R)OTUS (as in Republican) steps in.

Regarding Epstein's text to Bannon dated 06/28/19 "Now you can understand why Trump wakes up in the middle of the night sweating when he hears that you and I are friends," the big news that week was Trump saying of E. Jean Carroll on 06/25 "She's not my type." Which begs the question...who is his type? 🤔 But I wonder if this incident is what prompted Epstein's "Now you can understand" comments.

There is so much here that's meta, wheels within wheels. I'll just pick one.

The Epstein thing (not just the files, the whole 'thing') is given new life every time Trump mentions it, which he is doing, a lot. He is acting and sounding dead-ass guilty. Every time in the past when confronted by malfeasance of any kind, he would say "sure, I did that, whaddaya gonna do about it, bitch?" If he had, from the git, just said "Sure, I enjoyed some young ones in my time. That was long ago, and the girls were really cute. So fuck off", 90% of the screaming now would be at something else and this would be a sordid footnote to a sordid presidency. But no.

Why did he break character? Why is he lashing out so viciously at anyone who comes close to it? Why doesn't he just shrug, as he *always* has before? Why is this time so different? Dead girls or live goats? Dead girls in snuff films? This is the single thing that keeps my attention: his shame-faced, frantic, guilty look.

What could it possibly be? My imagination fails me here.

linda wasson's avatar

sexualizing young girls has been in our culture for generation films. tv ads think about it we now have not turned into Victorians but have daughters and with the development of female liberation the victims can now fight back our wives girlfriends and daughters have voices that scream these days its about time

I feel like there's very likely a video somewhere of him raping an underage girl or something along those lines. In Virginia G's book, she talks of Epstein having every room in his houses as bugged and video'd - including toilets and bathrooms. Perhaps that or being with a man? He's counting on the DOJ to have redacted evidence of him, and also by making the DOJ go after Democrats only, it can pause things from being released forever and he knew that last week of course. With Epstein calling his friend Trump the most depraved man he knew of, that trump had not a decent cell in his entire body, we can assume it's really sickening.

George in Atlanta's avatar

Yeah, I can't even imagine. AI-CGI makes video problematic now. The people who will believe it already believe it. It's not about the disclosure, it's about the fight for the disclosure.

AJ's avatar

I too have wondered if Trump actually engaged in a snuff encounter. What else could be so horrible that he's moves heaven and earth to squelch the files? And what else would be needed for Putin to keep him on such a tight leash in the service of Russia, Russia, Russia?"

He may be able to shoot someone on 5th Ave. and get away with it. But snuffing the life of an underaged girl during a forced sexual encounter? That would be magnitudes different.

George in Atlanta's avatar

But would it be? Would it be his D. C. Stephenson moment? Nothing has been so far, his rubes have proven to be so completely depraved that nothing registers with them. Whatever IT is, he's clearly terrified by it. I want to know.

“…Steve Bannon acolyte Raheem Kassam moaned that the GOP was ‘sprinting full pace’ toward a disastrous showing in next year’s midterms.”

Hmm…what happened to the cocky confident “We’re gonna win anyway!”? Ah, but let’s not let that public display of weakness make us overconfident. You know the MAGA cult will try anything, legal or illegal, to stay in power. But they’re cowards and will only do it if they think they can get away with it. We Never-Trumpers, from the Bernie Sanders left to the Liz Cheney right, must keep charging, regardless of what happens with Epstein or other issues. Saving the Republic is job 1 and will be until this cult is a distant memory.

1. An exception for “classified” files was inserted into the House bill. One wonders if, in the course of the massive FBI examination of files reported last summer, all files with the name of a sitting president were classified.

2. Let’s not forget that “files” includes photographic and video. Way beyond a paper trail.

3. “Katie Johnson” (pseudonym for her protection) testified years ago that Trump raped her at age 13. Her account included details about Trump’s personal oddities that were not widely known. Believe the victim.

Nibbles McDaniel's avatar

I don't doubt/would bet money that some malfeasance with regard to the Epstein records of all sorts, now under control of Pam Bondi's justice department, have been tamper with / disposed of / classified to the point where they would not specifically implicate or even mention Trump. I am certain this is why Trump finally capitulated: he's had assurances. the Admin will plans to control the narrative, flood the zone with red herrings, send inquirers down wild goose chases, and create chaos, eventually wearing everyone. Heck, he might even declare a war as a distraction!

But voters and media would be foolish to require specifics: they have all been removed/redacted under a claim of "national security". We need to pull back the focus, from requiring specific evidence to asking why this pedo was Trump's best friend for 15 years? Why was it just Epstein and Trump in the audience at that beauty pageant at Mar-a-Lardo? If Trump thought Epstein was a "creep" in this way ("It's even said he likes the younger ones" or something to this effect), why not do something more, like report him to authorities? Was Epstein even actually a member of Trump's club (recent emails suggest he was not, and thus this may be a performative red herring to suggest that Trump "did something"), and so on.

There's plenty of smoke - 2000+ mentions in FBI files, and more - and, let's not forget Trump's own record of sexual assault and exploitative/demeaning behavior towards women ("you can grab 'em by the p*ussy"). Smoke works. Nobody believes him anyway.
