Is it possible that journalists subconsciously or not are more similar to Republican politicians and fear for their own safety is they write too negative or too often negatively about Trump. Some of his horror stories like sharing top secret stories to an Australian don't even make the front page.

Jesus guys, you take the entire weekend off - even when there's a war in the Middle East?!?!

Maybe these anti Trump Republicans should throw in the towel and not support him at all. They don't have to vote for Biden, but that doesn't mean they should vote for a lying megalomaniac.

I know that the article by Ali Arikan on the tv series Ahsoka isn't mentioned in this newsletter, but could you please pass along a note to the author? If he is going to include important plot twists in your review of a show, it is considered good manners to put a spoiler alert at the top of the article.

The Media Mutes Trump’s Crazy

Do we think his supporters don’t know he’s crazy? Nope, they know and love him for it.

Maybe the people who voted against him 2020 because when people were dying he suggested a bleach colonic. I guess maybe they know too.

The real question is why that damned incompetent media isn’t getting through to that 3% of voter in 5 swing states that matter.

Go into a large room with 500 people talking to each other and that ambient noise is Trump’s insanity, it only goes away when someone else steps up to the microphone.

Trump started doing "some good things". Ha. Guess that depends on your definition of "good".

Ari Fleischer managed at least one truth in his Trump as speaker tweet: he's a "former CEO" haha

Who we are all upset at is the voters and what we want is for the press to somehow bring them to their senses. In reality there is plenty of info available in all media forms if a voter is the least bit curious. News doesn’t float in the ether, nor does it get injected in people like a vaccination (cue anti-vax comment.). People have to want information and if they don’t, it isn’t the fault of the press.

MSM is hopeless, no they don't need to carry his speeches live, but they certainly do need to highlight the crazies. For Heaven sake the man is quoting Mein Kampf is nobody noticing

With his people Mein Kampf is probably a book club pick.

Even the East Germans only used the death penalty for illegal border crossers and didn't use it for shoplifters or other petty crimes

I am so frustrated. Substack won't recognize my PW so I couldn't log into the Bulwark. I'm furious. I kept trying even after creating a new password. Now when I try to log into the Bulwark, Substack says I've tried too many times. I'm beyond frustrated. I think I might have resubscribed, because I am commenting now, which means I'll be double billed. I don't know what to do. Customer service is totally unresponsive.

Mr Sykes,

I miss your (short-lived) Deplorables of the Week. Any chance of a resurrection?

I meant people on the extreme left, and only in relative polarity. Sorry if that was confusing.

So does Trump proposing stationing armed execution squads outside of every store in the country? I know it's just insane rhetoric to fire up the base and play to their violent fantasies. Just wondering if anyone actually thought about how it might be done. Probably not.

The Axios story says that never Trumpers are giving up on the primaries. But what about downballot races with MAGAits? Shouldn't they be encouraging normies to vote in the primaries in order to temper the choice in November? Flipping the House next year is essential, and keeping the Senate could help to curb the beast should he get reelected.

The problem with primaries is how many people even in this insane time ignore the primaries. Another problem is winner-take-all. If delegates were allocated according to percentage of the votes, it might take some of the crazies out. And actually give national conventions something to do.

I was referring to downballot races, not president. The extremists tend to vote in primaries while the normies wait until November. A lot of primaries have things like 10 percent turnout. Getting it to even 20 percent with normies could keep the extremists from getting a seat at the table.

The problem is how allocation works in the Republican System.

Put aside for a moment about extra judicial killing, focus on the reaction of the crowd. That's what is REALLY disturbing! I bet Trump doesn't believe half the garbage he spouts but he KNOWS the VOTERS love it. Sad for our country seriously.
