I’m starting to wonder about how effective sending federales to the polls might be. As in how many people would show up to vote in protest of such an act. As opposed to the number who would be scared to vote.
I am sorry, BTC, but I did not understand when you wrote "He [Trump] claimed that more than a quarter of a million noncitizens are on the voter rolls (a number that seems to be exaggerated by about 99.96 percent—or 900 percent if you’re a fan of Trump math)."
Of course it goes without saying that Trump is a fucking liar at all times, but if the 'exaggeration' was the 99.96% you mentioned (call it 100% exaggeration) then you are accepting that there were 125,000 noncitizens on the voting rolls, which I strenuously doubt, even without having studied the states' numbers. Also, I did not correlate the snarky barb that your percent figure would equal 900% in 'Trump math'.
Where are the numbers coming from? and what was your point, please?
But will he "lose"? Nothing has its "normal meaning" anymore. In the reality that Trump doesn't live in, when we turn out, in large enough numbers to defy any challenge, he will lose. We can pull it off -- gas, grocery, health insurance, needed benefits have targeted a huge swath of the country, across the board. The media may jump on a transient lowering of gas prices by a dime or so; hey, now it costs only $10.00 more than last year to fill my tank, instead of $15 the weeks prior.
Trump knows he's losing, but when he does will he know that he lost? Living in a delusional and deranged world -- that he has plenty of company in -- will Trump and his lemmings cooperate? Accept rationale numbers?
Storm the polling sites as the votes accumulate and begin to add up for the wrong candidates. Confiscate the machines, before they can be tallied. Parade armed forces around cities and towns, have unmarked ICE vans screech onto sidewalks. Nothing is beyond those desperate to retain control...of us. The architects of 2025 may seem to be sober men in suits, but they are as concerned as the smallest of this crowd of hollowed out people.
We can recognize that so many factions of Trump's supporters are tired of his broken promises, lies and repeated lies. Does he remind some of them of their children, when caught in a lie, deny and defend with the same objections over and over and over. Will they still vote for the thin-skinned child-man who is desperate to be loved? Will they stay home?
I think that his selfishness may just win the day for us -- cutting the legs out of his party and its nominees, the seniors who are loyal to a (moral) fault, points to a win and a big one.
Add that Trump and the gang have delivered a lead balloon of a speech (Trump should not speak so late in the day, he hasn't had his nap so he looks tired, his wrinkles are showing and his voice is hoarse. Repeated assertions of the same unfounded dangers and tricks won't help the clean-up.
Best of all, a real gift, was when the new speech writer and conspiracy collector Solomon, admitted a fly-by interview with Von Hilyard that there was no evidence of vote tampering.
Of course, he emphasized that it was the "intelligence community's assessment"; uh wasn't that the source of the speech?!
Trump’s claim of 250,000 noncitizens on the voting rolls indeed is ludicrous. But your math about it being inflated by 99.08% actually is way too kind — you’re saying he only has just about doubled the actual number of such cases. Let’s say you mean the actual number is 5,000 such cases (0.02 * 250000). If so, then he has inflated the actual by 50-fold, or 5,000%. Trump’s misunderstanding of percentage change — that nod to 900% — is displayed when he talks about reductions, not increases.
I gotta say that Trump looked and sounded nuts. Being de-platformed for several years helped people memory hole a lot of the craziness. Normie Republicans blocked his impulsiveness. But those guardrails are gone now. Good on the networks, like CNN, for not airing this garbage. And Fox News interrupting to make sure their viewers knew that there was no election fraud. It just felt like the country sort of sighing and rolling its eyes for one night.
YES. My mother and my father in law. Academically smart people, but they say “well, Trump or his acolyte is saying it so there must be some truth in there.” They cannot conceive of a world where a republican straight lies to them. I can conceive, and am really sad about it. The closest I can remember to any president flat lying to us is Clinton’s “I did not have sex with that woman,” which seems so quaint nowadays.
He knows he's losing (if he's not 100 percent delirious and/or misinformed by his assorted toadies), but do his fans and voters know it? Does the party know it? Does right-wing media know it? Are they going to continue hitching their collective wagon to his falling star?! Hoping the courts continue to step up and do the right thing, and same for the military should it all come to that. Anyway, good to see such a capable guest writer today! Thanks.
Here is one more thing the democrats need to do when we are in power again. Every one of those enabling MF's need to be prosecuted. This is not just about the US; its about the world. They should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. Nuremburg 2029.
An executive order is not law. The blue states will immediately contest it as unconstitutional. My question is will that process delay the results of the midterm elections? And two what will congress do in response especially if the Democrats are gonna cream the Republicans in November?

BTC, where do you stand on the priority of impeachment? After that, does the wielding of virtuous power mean working to send the bastards to jail?

Out of context they well shout!
Delicious, I say.

Thank you for this reassuring article. I’ve several as an election official in North Carolina for 15 years . This October will be challenging
"[Trump is] post-truth. He just needs people to believe the lie."
It's worse than that. He just needs people to throw up their hands and say, "Who knows?"

George Washington looks like he is gesturing toward Trump and saying, "Behold. Exactly the kind of man I and my fellow Founders were worried about".
Flimsy excuses are no impediment: Gulf of Tonkin Resolution is Exhibit A.

Impossible to find a starting point. All he does is lie, cheat, and grift. What a waste of oxygen and space. Midterms can't come quick enough.
BTC and Bill Kristol on the same platform. Who would've thunk it?
