Wait, they think DeSantis won that debate?? It thought Newsom wiped the floor with him.

I'm not fan of Newsom but he was miles better. It wasn't even close.

I don’t agree with this assessment. From what I saw (and heard from others), Newsome punched pretty hard - especially on the Trump bootlicking and Florida’s record. He told how Biden/Harris policies benefitted states, and I feel it was a good presentation that spared the anger and entertainment, ya know - like normal politicians! I thought it was more successful for Newsome and a good contrast to the GOP policies.

JVL, W was above 50% approval for almost the entirety of 2004. The tumble didn’t start till the middle of ‘05.

JVL is so right about Bill's podcast with Jonathan Karl.. For some reason I watched it twice & it made me feel like crying.

It seems that Trump is not coy about a 2nd. term.......a political version of the Hunger Games.

Best JVL statement - “At some point in time the fucking Republicans need to help the democrats get rid of Trump”

No truer words have been spoken in the last 8 years.

Except what they are doing is telling Dems to support Haley in the primary.

GOP will not help Dems even if it means protecting democracy.

The larger point he has been making that democracy cannot long survive with only one party committed to preserving it is a profound one. Right now, the Democratic Party has all sorts of fault lines running between its coalitions, and any one may grow to a large enough fissure to doom the Party's prospects. Our fate hangs by the thread of a few thousand votes in a few swing states.

A debate by two men who should never be president. Speaking as a conservative Democrat I have different issues with them. Come 2028 people will go Ron who ? DeSantis fears he's toast after 2024.

Newsom might want to be president, but I predict his future is the Senate.

Can't wait for JVL to meet the people.

Dear gods; the only thing that could have topped this atrocity would have been Ramaswama Dingdong "debating" RatFK jr with Vince McMahon moderating.

At this point, Biden and Dems must unleash on Trump for all his anti-democratic and culture war, mostly his appointing three justices to overturn Roe, January 6, E. Jean Carroll civil case, Project 2025, etc. I don't know if these will work, but seem more potent that touting Biden's actual and real accomplishments, which are being dismissed by the majority of voters.

Skipped. No reason to watch these guys debate for no reason, moderated by someone I can't stand on a network I have no interest in watching. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m gonna skip the debate, but hear the commentary afterwards.

I think this silly debate idea came about when people believed DeSantis had a real shot at being the Republican nominee last spring. There was a whole California lib v. Florida heir to Trump vibe. Somehow no one on Fox noticed that DeSantis was faltering badly so they left this on the schedule.

Why is this even a thing? What is Newsom thinking to be on Fox-not-the-news with Hannity? Ewwww ick.

Why would anyone want to watch this? I certainly don’t.

Pass this along to JVL please: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/11/30/republican-debates-rnc-primary/

He was talking to AB Stoddard about the future of GOP primary debates this cycle. This article talks about a proposal in the RNC to both make the 4th debate next Wednesday the last official debate but at the same time lift the rule against participating in unofficial debates. That would mean that after Wednesday's debate, if, say, a Fox News host wanted to have Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley on for the hour as joint guests and host an ad hoc debate, that'd be allowed, when currently that'd be against RNC rules. It's an odd middle ground between AB's stance that the primary debates would be over and JVL's stance that the RNC can't totally cut them off: just saying no more official debates.

The debate Wednesday should be a total snoozer. DeSantis, Haley, and Ramaswamy have qualified but Christie hasn't, so those three for the whole time is just a horrible matchup.

I just want Newsom to make him cry and/or storm off stage. This is completely pointless from a political perspective, but it will be entertaining. What are we calling this? Governorgate? Rumble in the state rotunda?
