If you had said, once Trump is elected he will send masked, unidentified armed agents into the streets to round up Hispanic looking people and send them to alligator infested camps in south Florida, people would have said, yeah, right. You have TDS. Take a pill.
So, appointing a nazi who was at 01/06 as head of BLS? Sure. Why not?
Well, that sounds about right for Trump's Folks, 2.0. A J6'er to run the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Plus, I gather the Census Bureau. As we love to say these days: what could possibly go wrong? The Bismarck seems a good metaphor.
Yes, Antoni is strange looking, and undoubtedly has MAGA views - he's Donald Trump's nominee, after all. Do us all a favor, though, and STOP focusing on the January 6 stuff. Just don't dwell on it for even a moment. The ONLY thing that anybody (especially the Senate) should be focused on is how utterly unqualified he is! If the media continues to feed this narrative about how his involvement in the Jan 6 mob incident shows or affects his character, then the media is playing right along with Trump's bullshit: "No! Don't look at his resume! Look at the J6 clips! Anything other than his ability to actually do the job!" Please, please. Take this unserious candidate for the top job at BLS very seriously. If the country could focus on his lack of qualifications and experience, then he would have no chance at confirmation. Whether or not he was further involved in J6 is important in a certain context, sure, but the confirmation fight is not that context.
I do believe that it is important to point out how many members of this administration are J6 insurrectionists, simply because it was “an insurrection”. There shouldn't be a single person in the cabinet or otherwise employed by our federal government and paid by our federal tax dollars who participated in an active attempt to overthrow the government. If they talk about it every hour of every day, it wouldn't be enough. Glossing over this fact would mean we are joining with the group of Republicans who want to normalize or ignore something that should not ever be normalized.
I agree with you, ED. But that's kind of my point. It is a foregone conclusion that everybody in Trump's orbit participated in the insurrection either in the planning, the execution or the Big Lie(s) that came afterwards. Getting people (like us, and the media) to focus on that aspect of a nominee is intentionally distracting us from the bigger problems with this guy's (and others') qualifications for real jobs in the government. And that's what the MAGAts want. They want us looking the other way while they pull yet another one over on us.
I am a legitimate economist and I am a serious collector several ship models, paintings, watercolors, lithographs, and historic books. I also collect WWII aircraft models and fly RC planes. Having the Bismarck battleship display would help complete a set of prominent WWII battleships, but it is odd to have it dominate the background of the room where you do podcasts. Personally I do not own anything associated with the Nazi regime. I do own models of American WWII bombers and fighters used against the Nazis.
A quick glance, (and forgive me if I’ve missed it, but it doesn’t exactly leap out on your home page) shows not one headline about Jeffrey Epstein. Please, please, please don’t drop that ball, Bulwark! That is exactly what Trump wants. Alaska, economy, RFJJr, insane appointments…the distraction seems to be working. PLEASE don’t let it!
Instead of ingratiating the axis battleship Bismarck, one would have thought a card-carrying MAGA appointee would have graced his study wall with pictures of the three aircraft carriers that triumphed at Midway (USS Hornet, Lexington, Yorktown) or perhaps the USS Missouri where the instrument of surrender was signed by the Japanese in 1945...? Am I missing something??
Tim - thanks for the reference to The Overton Window. Amazing that Joseph Overton postulated this theory as recently as the mid-1990s. The Bulwark is full of hidden gems!
use your senses -- they will tell u. i figure most ceos, market analysis, talking heads and so on never or rarely step foot in this places. but i felt i saw a drop off in foot traffic at various big box and quick eats places starting around say april maybe... let's go with that. at first i thought i was seeing what i wanted to see ... but nope:
"... Cava (CAVA) stock fell 16% on Wednesday after the company reported a larger-than-expected growth slowdown in the second quarter. Peers like Sweetgreen (SG) and Chipotle (CMG) both reported a second straight quarter of same-store sales declines in Q2 as demand for the trusty lunch bowls of choice for America's white-collar workforce waned."

Well what if anything can be done to get 3 Republican Senators to STOP THIS ATROCITY?
THose of you in Red states vote them out if you get a chance to vote.

This Antoni guy looks like a third-rate magician in Reno.

Great, another Nazi....what a surprise.

There seems to be a Nazi under every rock in this Administration. I guess going all in is one way to combat a stereotype.
lmao holy shit my dad played both of those songs for me a lot as a kid

MAGA thinks we fought on the wrong side of WWII
