I'm SO sorry that all of you at the Bulwark do not get the Bernie, AOC, Zohran energy as some kind of real thing. (Not to mention Jasmine Crockett and Chris Murphy). Sorry, but I'm NOT a young voter of color. I'm mainstream, older, and DISGuSTED that the DNC dissed Bernie back when it would have made a difference. The fact that Sarah acted surprised that, for some reason, Bernie has that level of energy, made me sick! Come on! Pay attention! AOC, Bernie, Zohran - even if we don't believe in all of their "doctrines," we're all kind of sick of the glop that dem consultants serve us through our "democratic political 'stars'" BLECK! PAY ATTENTION!!!!!! And get off the sicko "centrist" train. Seriously. Where has it gotten us??? I had to leave. This crap makes me sick. I now live in a country where single payer healthcare benefits EVERYONE! Where, during COVID, they opened their generous healthcare system to even the undocumented because, If one of them gets sick, we ALL get sick. There are services for the least of these and ONLY the minority far right party is against that. People take care of people. And, even though we are in Europe, we have met only ONE local who does not think that Trump is an F-ing buffoon and bad for the world. If only more Americans could wake up!
"Democrats in office and running for office all around the country are going to be asked whether or not they support Mamdani. If they say, ‘Yes,’ then the natural follow up will be: Well, do you endorse this or that statement or position of his?"
I would suggest those Democrats have an answer from former NYC Mayor Abe Beame: "If you agree with me two-thirds of the time, vote for me. If you agree with me 100% of the time, see a psychiatrist."
How about Democrats learn a pretty easy lesson abut authenticity: "Of course I don't support all of Mamdanis policies. But I would have voted for him over the sex predator Andrew Cuomo in a heartbeat & think hes light years better than the corrupt and compromised Eric Adams. This is the easiest vote I've ever taken, just as easy at Harris over Trump or Biden over Trump. I don't understand what the problem is here. If his ideas don't work, New Yorkers can just vote him out for a centrist Democrat like Micheal Bloomberg in 4 years."
I'm doing my best to keep an open mind on Zohran's win. New York City is a different place and he's a different kind of candidate. As long as it doesn't turn out to be a case of "Come for the Socialism, stay for the anti-Semitism", this could be good, or at least neutral, for Democrats in all of New York and even nationwide. If not ... well, let's hope there's no need for the "if not". 🤞🏻
It is embarrassing that Democratic leadership supported Cuomo…..he is a dirtbag. Mamdani is an excellent candidate. Democratic leadership needs a reorganization.
Yep. Democrats at every single level should be appalled by the fact that Cuomo got 35% of the vote. Thats WAY worse than a guy with wacky ideas winning. Why was this even a competitive race?
Yeah, don't want to deal with all the insults to center left people, and old people for a group that claims to be so tolerant, it is only for people who agree with them and they do not tolerate disagreements, I find that arrogant and annoying.
Plus they are condescending too
Who needs that, Trump is the bigger problem right now anyway
People get really wrapped around the axle on this grocery store thing. Fact is we already have government run grocery stores in places where certain staples aren’t available or the cost at local privately owned stores. All over the country, and in many places across the world. They’re called commissaries and they’re on most military bases. It’s a reasonable proposal in food deserts - which is an issue that’s been left unaddressed for far too long.
That the whistle-blower complaints against Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove is under "Quick Hits" indicates how jaded we've become, possibly because the number of scandalous behavior from Trump and his administration is overwhelming. (The NYT article headline was in small print, closer to the bottom of their webpage.)
In another time, not only would this have been a huge story, likely leading to Bove's resignation, but, at the very least, Congress would have begun an investigation.
A reminder of other disturbing actions by Bove mentioned in today's NYT article:
"Mr. Bove’s nomination has generated significant resistance from current and former Justice Department lawyers, as Mr. Bove has led the administration’s efforts to fire, demote and undermine career law enforcement officials who worked on cases that President Trump dislikes. Those include the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol; the federal investigations of Mr. Trump; and other cases involving conservatives."
and
"In February, Mr. Bove demanded that career lawyers sign a motion seeking the dismissal of corruption charges against Mr. (Mayor Eric) Adams, saying that while he had not examined the evidence, he wanted the case to end because Mr. Adams could help with the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. Mr. Bove’s demands led to a wave of resignations and dismissals of prosecutors, decimating the public integrity section, which polices criminal conduct among politicians."
Snark and ignorance. These type of insults are what will keep the Republicans in office for years to come.
Don't mistake the comity that existed in politics pre-Gingrich for any sort of agreement in basic principles or values between Democrats and Republicans then or now.
How comfortable can the Jewish community feel when their Democratic choice is "globalize the Intifada". It's a "raus Juden" memory. For those who belive in the purpose of Israel and the ideals of Zionism, this is a firestorm.
I keep wondering how/why Andrew Cuomo assumed he could run a lackluster campaign. Was he taking NYC voters for granted? Or too old-timey and out of practice to run a 2025 brand of campaign? Either way, this gave voters little to believe in. And if he couldn't understand what he was up against- and what he'd need to answer Zohran with- shame on him. It pains me to say it, because I fear the Zohran mayoralty, but Andrew did earn his defeat. Arrogance and/or obsolete political mindset.
With Cuomo, there was too much focus on sexual harassment accusations, and not enough focus on how atrocious he was with the Covid response. Some of his actions, which were clear and obvious, included allowing the subways and public spaces to continue running when the rest of the world was shutting down, sending Covid patients to the nursing home, and more. As Charlie Sykes indicated in 2020, Cuomo and DeBlasio were among the worst leaders during the pandemic and their actions led to many deaths. Had Donald Trump not been there to hog up all of the bad limelight, they would've been run out of Albany/NYC on a rail.
The idea that he was the frontrunner was illogical. If I had a vote in NYC, I wouldn't have ranked him or Mandani who is inexperienced, has bad ideas, an unacceptable answer to "from the river to the sea," and appears to be a terrible example of an anti-Trump politician for voters when local figures are now prominent in national elections.
Overall I think Mamdani was a good choice, mainly because the old, ossified Democratic leaders need a wake up call. Schumer should be expecting strong competition in AOC.
Mandamii may not be without faults, and I accept that former Republicans want to pull the reigns in from moving to the left, but I think that's where the excitement and energy will be in the upcoming elections.
I think the rejection of Cuomo is a sign of that - they don't want Trump light. They want the antithesis to Trump, youthful, honest, energetic, liberal in the best ways, and a great communicator. Mandami met all those criteria and more.

Is that so tough?
I think Mamdani won because women vote against Cuomo. Mamdani should appoint Brad Lander as First Deputy Mayor.

Why didn't this come to my email? Weird...I had to come here and look for it

Clintonian Democrats are closer to Republicans than they are to progressives and socialists. They should take the GOP back from Trump.

Off topic but here's another update on the "This Country is so Fucked Up" list:
CNN story today: "Jury orders man to pay $500K for assaulting police officer who killed himself after Capitol riot"
Meanwhile Ashli Babbit's familiy gets a $5 million government payout.

My guess on Cuomo: he could assume that because he's second only to Trump in the ego category. Maybe it's a Queens thing.
Also second only to Trump in being a scumbag.
