"When the government runs out of excuses to hold them, or is forced to release them by the courts, they send them out the front door of the Whipple Building, often in the dead of night. Alone. No cell phone. No jacket. In the freezing cold and snow."

I'm at a loss for words. What kind of monsters do things like this?

We can never "move on" from this first stab at fascism. We must keep it in our minds ever more, just in case. Also, we must keep those heroic efforts to retain a sane society by those in Minneapolis, whether they lived there or came from other towns and states. This is what patriotism (and sanity) look like. Thank you for keeping this in our awareness, JVL.

JVL, who knew THIS is why you did not go to medical school … so grateful for your insights and telling out loud

Thanks for the Saturday morning heart attack, JVL... or should I call you Aragorn telling Frodo "You're not nearly frightened enough." But forewarned is forearmed. I am here at the first ground zero in Los Angeles so it's a reminder for all of us to be vigilant and find ways to help our community. Thank you all for doing the good work. Let's all make some good trouble.

This is beyond contemptible and I don’t understand why it’s not enough to force Congress to act.

I want to send this to my senators and congresswoman 🤬 Is it unlocked for the general public?

Thanks JVL for reminding us that this disaster continues. We tend to need constant reminders while watching this regime eat up the headlines with their lawless behavior. Will there come a reckoning? We grew up thinking right always wins out, but it may be time to adjust our thinking.

"We do not negotiate with terrorists" Remember this always. But we can and must bear witness.

The trick is to bear witness while not becoming part of the story. During the civil rights demonstrations (of which I took part in, "OK Boomer?") a great deal of the effectiveness of our demonstrations was due to the training we underwent to avoid, not confrontation, but escalation. The regime would like nothing better than an excuse to invoke the insurrection act and we can't to give them one. This doesn't mean others can't. Evidence the false flag ops during the George Floyd protests. Today we have many more tools at our disposal to witness and record the incursions on our civil rights. If the pen is mightier than the sword then the camera can be mightier than the gun. Remember to stay away from "the pointy end of the dog" and hit record from a safe distance

Thank you JVL for continuing to bear witness. The evil and the trauma continue. I’m so proud of my former fellow Minnesotans for doing what is right and what is needed in this moment,

JVL, once again, you have outdone yourself. You made me cry this morning. I’m really pissed at you for that!

Thank you for being a witness and such a serious, compassionate reporter. You are absolutely correct, this is America now. A land of broken dreams and nightly nightmares. Apparently, for three more years.

Thank you for your excellent description and analysis of the situation on the ground in MN. It really is hard to understand the scope of the situation without being there. It is terrifying and enraging simultaneously. Would have been at your show were I not in Africa, where I witnessed the devastating cuts to USAID firsthand as a result of having to pay an emergency visit to a rural hospital in Uganda when my husband fell ill. Amazing doctors here, American and Ugandan, and they all described the effects of the elimination of USAID funding. It’s all of a piece, and it all stems from a lack of human decency, kindness, and generosity. The people of MN are heroes for their resistance.

Thank you so much for this emergency Triad and for going to Minneapolis. I donated to Second Harvest in deep appreciation for what the people there are doing for our country, and in recognition of the efforts of the entire Bulwark team. Thanks for sharing so much of the live show content.

Thank you for being there, observing. It brought tears to my eyes. How can we be so cruel? This behavior is an act of desperation by a flailing regime. They forget that Americans have had freedom that's precious and too hard to give up willingly. It was America's look in the mirror and we didn't like the reflection.

No matter how many distractions this regime lays before us this will blow up. It will get worse before it gets better, but it's unsustainable. Thank you Jon and The Bulwark team.

I'm really glad you wrote this. I knew it was still happening, but it's definitely been knocked off the mainstream news cycle. 😡

Perhaps War is not the correct analogy, it is not strong enough. Judge Sunshine Sykes ruling got it right, ICE is a well funded organized terror organization. Tactics used by ICE against civilians, like executing unarmed citizens, are not legal in war. It is beyond ironic that the 1st words from Bondi after Pretti's murder called the neighborhood watchers (there were no banners, no organized protest) professional agitators and domestic terrorists. Anyone viewing the videos DID see highly paid agitators and domestic terrorists... they were the masked, anonymous, automatic weapon's toting ICE agents in unmarked vehicles. It has been 100 years, but sadly domestic terror on this scale is not new to our country. Like today, the KKK positioned itself as defending real Americans from the other, and like the Klan, that was not really the point. The real purpose then and now is to terrorize the electorate, to keep them hiding in their homes, and amass power through violence and domination. Domestic terror can be crueler than war.

Yes! I keep saying that the last time an extra-legal organization wore masks was the inexpressibly evil kkk. (A group not worthy of capital letters.)

I just sent a link to this to The Seattle Times and will follow up with other news outlets. Thanks for all you and The Bulwark do JVL to continuously train a spotlight on the horrors perpetuated by this regime. Minnesota is a role model for the rest of the country. It makes me sick and very sad to read about it but that is followed by deep seated anger that has been highly motivating. We are in this for the long haul.
