Now, 4 days on from the original post, Qatars' 747 is parked at the Pentagon, accepted by 47. I guess it'll have to be sold off later to cover legal fees for the Orange A-hole, as his crimes & corruption come home to roost. Then maybe the Public & Congress will have the balls to vomit DJT out of the WH, and into the cell he belongs.

On Trump and the midterms. No matter the message, the election is most likely going to be conditions based. That is, if the economy is sluggish to worse, costs of goods are up due to tariffs, and government services are noticeably screwed up thanks to Doge, the people who often don't pay much attention to politics will notice, and will vote for Democrats. Searching for messages now, like over a plane that is likely to be long forgotten, is a fools errand. Now is the time for resistance, Protest. Law suits.

"... 30 House Democrats who are 75 or older ..."

I knew that the senate was old, but didn't realize how old the house was as well. No wonder they are often revealed as clueless when confronted with social media or even what a smart phone can do. At least Nancy Pelosi stepped aside as minority leader but she's still there in congress. Maybe term limits would be a good idea.

The question is: Are we dedicated to the proposition that all people are created equal or are we not? Fox News reporter Brian Kilmeade on Monday morning (05/12/2025), asked the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, regarding Kingdom of Qatar's gift of the flying palace, "if there were any concerns that the Qatari government would expect any return favors from the president?" And White House Press Secretary Leavitt answered: "Absolutely not, because they know President Trump and they know that he only works with the interest of the American public in mind".

I think Leavitt's answer was not spontaneous. I suspect White House staffers knew a question like that was coming and they prepared that answer. This is how I understand that answer: It does not matter WHAT their leader does. What matters is WHO he is. To think this way, one must believe all men (people) are not created equal. If any of us were to sit in the presidential chair and accept the gift of a flying palace from the Kingdom of Qatar, the monarch and courtiers of that Kingdom would expect that any of us would abuse our power in ways that would benefit them. But we are told that this is not so for President Trump. He cannot be bribed or swayed because he cares only for the interests of the American People. Therefore, if there is a clause (or in other cases, even several clauses) in the Constitution that prohibit WHAT he is doing, it does not matter because of WHO he is. Such rules would apply to us, but not to him, and may not even apply to his followers. His "WHO-ness" is so pure, powerful and virtuous that an action which, for others, would be corrupt, immoral or criminal, would not be for him. He may have believed this for a long time now, and now, apparently, many of his courtiers believe it. The question is, can we convince enough Americans, that to remain Americans, they must "absolutely not" accept Ms. Leavitt's deeply un-American explanation and continue to support Donald Trump?

Americans are tribalistic. The WHO has always mattered more than the WHAT. It’s moral relativism writ large.

I think the top 20 buyers of Trump's crypto coin getting a special meet and greet with dear leader is easy to understand and shamelessly corrupt. There's no way it can be spun as "this is a gift to the US." Why hasn't this been the poster incident for corruption?

One irony is that Trump is responsible, at least in part, for the two aircraft being worked on by Boeing still being undelivered. In 2017, he threatened to cancel the contract for being too expensive--classic Trump MO. Panicked, Boeing agreed to a $100 million reduction in the fixed cost--overruns to be born by Boeing--while enhancing specifications. In particular, Trump insisted on changes in the direction of opulence--or as we might term his sense of the opulent, garishness. Boeing is losing big money on the deal, and reportedly now regrets ever agreeing to the changes.

Incompetence and corruption will ultimately defeat the MAGA movement.

But the Dems also need someone outside of the party to run in 2028.

America has proven twice that: 1) they won't elect a woman POTUS, and 2) they want a "political outsider."

Dems should go after Trump's "3 C's": Chaos, Corruption, and Cruelty. These are his political weaknesses.

He creates chaos in markets and foreign relations and consumer prices, he's a corrupt grifter who uses the office to enrich himself, and he's cruel to everyone from immigrants to fed workers to Taylor Swift.

I see no evidence in this piece that Dems are "giddy". Writers should NOT create a narrative that doesn't exist, but it would appear Egan just can't help herself.

Eight months since the election and I'd hope Dems have better than "lets run 2006 over again."

Democratic Leaders need to message heavily about corruption for sure but tie it to an economic message.

Such as:

The economy is terrible, there are no factories being built and no new jobs coming to America, but Trump is sure helping himself out by taking bribes and gifts from Qatar, Syria, Pakistan, UAE and Saudi Arabia, and if you didn't know they were the main sponsors of terrorism in the world that brought us Hamas, Al Qaida, and more notably 9/11.

Mass Corruption -> Economics -> Increasing the Deficient on Tax Cuts -> Cutting Programs -> Does Not Help America -> Benefits Only Trump Family and his Supporters

Ahh great, Dems are dusting the cobwebs off an almost 20 year old tactic and recycling it in a completely different and incomparable context. This is the kind of innovative strategery I expect from democrats. No really, it is.

Dems would be smart to look at how MAGA has firmly planted the belief that corruption is normal in voters’ heads. They don’t care about corruption. If anything they think Dems are more corrupt.

Let's just use gay since we are using archaic terms for happy.

I'm not happy about my president taking bribes from Qatar and every supporter of terrorism and misery in the world out there. I doubt Democratic party leaders are either. The only one happy about it is Trump and his surrogates that are profiting from it.

Sad to still see so many complaints about criticisms of the elected Democrats and Biden when the criticisms are really developing exposures, and those are merely scratching the surface of the corruption sitting Democrats are and have been culpable of. I could now and have focused on the effete, do-nothing, embarrassing lack of any significant action by sitting Democrats while Trump turned this country into a fascist state. Loads of commentary about the heinous callow actions of Trump (who strategically made sure those actions were daily well known), but only maudlin whimpering about the victim Democrats. Motto, keep 'em crying. Finally Democrats are being investigated for their sins. Nancy Pelosi, who arrived in office with only moderate money is now worth $280-some million. She recently made two and a half large overnight. There have been made many, many accusations of her insider-trading, which is a felony, but she remains untouched by legal response. This insider-trading is rampant and accounts for the curious silence and inaction of many sitting Democrats. As usual, follow the rot to its source, money. Democrats are now moving at top speed, a highly unusual pace, to ensure their tribe stays on the ticket, not for the sake of saving the country but for saving themselves. If Democrat voters continue to wallow in their lake of loyalty, the brunt of voters, independents and undeciders, won't buy it. They want new blood, change in the party.
