Sen. Ernst is correct: People will die. It happens to all of us. I'm 78, so I'm closer to that day than most; I figure maybe 25-30 years, and I'm outta here.
But I don't see any sense in rushing it. Put a sock in it, Joni.
Unfortunately she has a way out. Eventually Trump dumps Hegseth and his likely replacement is the guardian of Iowas live-everlasting souls. Meet the next Sec of Def!
I would love it if some Christians who believe in Christ’s teachings would be in a position to speak out about the current nonsense coming out of this party, and especially Ernst. Stripping healthcare and food from the poorest people, then talking about eternal life?
I wish people would post that two greatest commandments, according to Jesus himself are to love God and love your neighbor. And that when asked “who is my neighbor?” He told the story of the Good Samaritan.
Luke 10:25-37
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 [Jesus] answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
brutal American health system has now become even more cruel - question: what do repubs expect to get out of these actions? gonna result in an unhappy, to put it mildly, populace that is likely sooner or later to make Big Trouble...well, unless they're too debilitated of course...
The difference now is, the odds have become significantly greater that when she gloriously drops dead, people will now caravan to shit on her grave. You know, that ones that don't keep voting for her.
What are the people of Iowa thinking? Is it OK that people will die so that the very rich can become even more rich? As a resident of one of those Northeast states that gives more than it takes, it’s hard to understand why people would let their neighbors die rather than help them get the care that they need.
They weren't thinking that this would effect them or their neighbors. They thought this was going to stop the hordes of dangerous illegal immigrants pouring over the border (hordes that don't exist) and lower prices. "Cut benefits so we can lower taxes on the already-rich" wasn't the talking point Fox and OAN used in their "news" broadcasts about Republican party platform prior to the election.
In other words, they were woefully misinformed, or voted primarily on bullshit "cultural issues," and (like a high percentage of average Americans) never really believed that the US could ever cease to be the dominant global economic and military power.
Too many voters in our society DON'T think. They emote - and the MAGA movement has figured out how to take full advantage of that, to our nation's detriment.
Mike Johnson and Joni Earnst are Angels of Death and heretics posing as pro-life Christians. And for the tens of millions of Americans who are about to lose their health insurance and federal food assistance benefits because of what is in their big, ugly disgusting, bill it may lead to them experiencing megadeath. And I’m not referring to the heavy metal band.
OK, Iowa, now is your chance to kick her sorry phony ass out of office. Remember she voted for Pete, the drunk and you think she gives a good god damn about you?
I hope the Iowa Democrats can take advantage of this own goal by Ernst. She's vulnerable after those callous remarks, and will become more vulnerable if the market for US agricultural products shrinks or if a disaster hits and Iowa can't get any help from FEMA.
This is what happens when voters elect a snake oil salesman. You think your vote would keep the vulnerable safe, the poor looked after and that your cost of groceries would go down? I feel for the citizens of Iowa but you voted for this sick, depraved con man. Did you not watch his first go around as President? Did you reward a draft dodging felon? Why in the hell did you do that? And then you keep electing cowards who will sacrifice your well being to keep their damn jobs? Why do you people keep getting your asses kicked? Why do you continue to believe a liar, a misogynist a bottom feeding swindler who has turned the Oval office into a crass golden tomb? When will you people wake up? You voters can end this. I wonder if you are smart enough or informed enough to care. Right now, you got what you paid for. Are you angry? Look in the mirror for the one to blame.
The average American is NOT well-educated or well-informed, and votes along tribal lines. That's a problem everywhere, but it has much more negative consequences in places where the majority of voters have Republican tribal affiliation.
"The next day, Ernst doubled down by posting an Instagram video—filmed as she walked through a cemetery—in which she said she wanted to 'apologize' for revealing that human beings are mortal." Actually, what she said was that she wanted to apologize for *assuming that everyone in the audience was aware* that human beings are mortal, which is why it was so grotesquely condescending.
"They see lots of upside in smaller government and big tax breaks for the wealthy, more than enough to justify whatever downsides come from cutting health insurance for poor people.
That’s a perfectly defensible proposition, one that’s been part of debates about the size and scope of government for as long as those debates have been taking place...
In other words, they can’t win the political fight on the merits, so they’re lying."
"Perfectly defensible"? Seriously? That position is not remotely defensible. And "merits"? There are no merits. The bill is an abomination.
Mr Cohn, please do an article that addresses the fact that these uninsured people will wait until they are acutely ill, the show up at the local hospital emergency department, as per EMTALA . Because they can’t afford the $1,000+ bill for their visit, this will drop to bad debt. Consequently, home owners will experience a substantial increase in their hospital district taxes. For renters, the increase will be passed down as well. So, all these folks that are excited about these “deadbeats” losing their healthcare insurance will actually end up paying for it themselves- if their rural hospital survives- retired MD & hospital system CEO.
A lot of these people won't show up at the hospital emergency room because there will be no emergency room for them to go to. Their rural hospital will have closed. And of course that effects everyone in the area, even if they have a gold-plated insurance plan!

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol": “Many can’t go there (prisons and Union Workhouses); and many would rather die.”
“If they would rather die,” said Scrooge, “they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”
This could go onto the front page of the Big, Beautiful Bill, without any need to be updated.

I see a rosy future for the funeral industry, nursing homes - not so much. Elections have consequences.
Earnst an evil woman and in her 2026 U.S. Senate reelection campaign, when she faces Iowa voters again, she will have hell to pay!
Thank you. It’s very sad. It’s hard to read those Iowa stories and understand that these good people are at risk.

This is the sign of an ignorant and dysfunctional nation that has lost its way, and its honor.
We should have listened back in 1985 when Neil Postman wrote "Amusing Ourselves to Death."
Mike Johnson and Joni Earnst are Angels of Death and heretics posing as pro-life Christians. Does it matter if voters speak out in the senator's town hall meeting and she votes for the bill anyway? When is she next up for re-election?
2026.
IF...there are still elections in 2026
Good point.
That remains to be seen.
She is up for re-election in 2026.

and the non-stop bombardment of propaganda and lies from that tv outlet they all watch helps bring hell raining down
