I think Wicked for Good should have had some nominations such as costumes, etc. And Ariana Grand as Glinda was really good. Her role was expanded and resolved so much in this movie. Some of the others were not deserved. Avatar? F1??

F1 nominations not deserved? Sounds like you didn't "get" it, at all.

Sinners is comically overrated. It was OK. Nothing to write home about. 16 Oscar nominations for a film that was basically a rehash of From Dusk 'til Dawn (but not as good) is insane. Of course, the Oscars are kind of a joke anyway. A fact that was made clear to me when Saving Private Ryan lost best picture to Shakespeare in Love. (eye roll) I haven't watched or taken them seriously since.

Love the people that compare Sinners to From Dusk to Dawn and don't get the movie AT ALL.

Love the people who claim to “get” things (when there’s nothing more to be gotten) just to make themselves feel a little superior. Sinners isn’t anything more than was onscreen and what was onscreen was good, but not great. Believe me, I “got” it. It’s being lauded and hyped because of who made it, not because of any deeper meaning or message that it has. But by all means, carry on claiming to “get” it. 🐑

Enlighten us all and tell us what it is you "got" that others missed. Otherwise.... yep.

From Dusk 'til Dawn a better movie? You must be joking. Sinners is a better version of that concept.

Well, that’s your opinion. After hearing so many great things about it I watched it the night it landed on HBOmax. And after it was over I couldn’t believe I had seen the same movie as everyone else. Like I said, it was OK. Well made, good performances, good VFX but overall not up to the level of hype that preceded it. I feel like it might seem amazing to someone who’s not seen a lot other movies before.

FDtD got there first (by decades) and did it better. The gangster movie that’s revealed to be a horror movie. If you take out the “surprise” vampire reveal in Sinners, what’s left is a pretty dull, unnecessarily long and kinda unfocused story that takes itself too seriously for what it is. Because he’s a young, successful, black filmmaker, many people seem to want to heap extra, unwarranted praise on Coogler. The same thing happened when Black Panther came out. It was good, but not as good as it was hyped up to be. It wasn’t even the best of the Marvel movies. It certainly wasn’t better than The Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy. I understand it’s (and Sinners) relevance to the black community and that’s great but that alone doesn’t make them worthy of being Oscar contenders (for best picture no less). But it seems to be what’s happening.

I’ve got a small prediction market wager on Michael B. Jordan’s longshot best actor win. So here’s hoping the others split the vote.

This became a very exciting Oscars at 7:30 a.m. CST yesterday. I will say that I revised my guesses and think Sinners might win Best Picture. I think PTA will win Director, but we will see pictures of Ryan Coogler holding two Oscars on Monday, March 16th, for writing and Best Picture.

Fox Searchlight didn't set her up for success. She is an absolute powerhouse in that film!

Best Actor: Tim Chalamet and Leo DeCaprio split the American vote and Wagner Moura wins but all 5 in this category are more than worthy as a winner.
