DOBBS

I just listened to Friday’s podcast with Charlie and Will and I feel the need to comment. Will offered a hearty endorsement of the Dobbs decision. Firstly, Roe v. Wade would NOT have been overruled if the current Supreme Court weren’t artificially partisan Republican as a result of McConnell stealing a seat. Will went on to say that Dobbs is fine, because if you live in a state where abortion is illegal “you can elect a governor and legislators who will establish pro-choice policies” and then he went on to say, very quickly as if he didn’t really want us to hear it, “and that’s gonna be difficult in some states”. Difficult? Ya think?? Both houses of my hopelessly gerrymandered state legislature are controlled by Republican super-majorities, so electing enough legislators to establish pro choice policies will be “difficult” indeed, nigh unto impossible. And in the meantime, if my teenage daughter is raped at a party by a drunk classmate and becomes pregnant what should I do, run for office?

Dear Mr. Ex President,

Just for a change, why don't you do something to yourself that hasn't been done for us in your lifetime. Simply shut the fuck up and head back to your escalator...

Charlie, you’re worried about Democrats ignoring the Supreme Court’s rulings but what about Alabama?

Alabama's Republican controlled legislature has approved a new congressional map that ignores a ruling by the Supreme Court. The map was approved with one majority Black seat, defying a ruling that requires two congressional districts where Black voters make up the majority.

Yes, cable news on 24/7 has too much time to fill and all the bad things going on are shown repeatedly to capture an audience. But it’s the same with major newspapers too. The headlines on most articles are horrendous and misleading and inevitably have a slant on them. But the Broadcast National news on ABC CBS and NBC don’t really give the news as viewers need to understand what is really going on - at least on political issues. Plus I swear there’s mor commercial time than actual news. Have a good weekend.

If you can't legally show porn in Congress, with the speech and debate clause, where can you do so?

Norms? We don't need no stinkin' norms. Or: decorum is for losers.

Charlie, please stop citing national polls, like Monmouth. All those polls mean is that whoever is ahead will win the popular vote - IF the vote were held today. The only polls that matter are the state polls of the first four primaries, IA, NH, NV and SC, and the swing states.

Serious question: for either party, does Iowa really matter? Not exactly a nomination bellwether for Republicans of late, and not good on multiple measures on the Democratic side in 2020.

Expand full comment

This year it only matters for the GOP primary. (Yes, Biden lost both IA & NH and went on to win the nomination, but that was an anomoly driven by Dems' fear that neither Bernie nor Pete B could beat Trump. That was the all important goal.) From what I hear from my favorite political pundits and hacks (Mike Murphy, a Republican strategist and his lifelong friend and Dem strategist David Axelrod) if Trump wins IA and NH, the primary is over. If he loses IA and wins NH - more likely - then NV and SC results will determine the winner.

t***p's threats have become tiresome. Like him the vast majority of his followers are craven cowards terrified that their own shadow might harbor the dreaded "antifa". So to me his threats are just maniacal and mostly silly, but just in case this liberal old lady is sick to death of his threats so MAGA if you are listening bring it on.

Total leftie progressive here but you convinced me on Supreme Court except maybe Clarence Thomas. Now let’s see what happens in Alabama.

“No, General, it’s not just you. It is indeed a sh*tshow for the ages, but it was hardly an isolated event this week. Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Congress.”

CORRECTION: ...this is your Republican Congress.

I want to know how he can issue threats and not be held accountable for those? If I did something like that I am sure the police would be at my door. He is threatening violence...so that is ok? Why isn't he in jail awaiting trial...I do not give a flying F if this bothers MAGAS or not...d

Isn't that the point, I have had all I can stand of the snowflake MAGA's. The young man that also stole defense secrets has a good point, why does he have to be in jail if t***p doesn't. As for the MAGAs bring it on.

From the Republican perspective, the law is meant to shield them, so legal consequences for them is weaponizing law enforcement. The law is also meant to constrain non-Republicans, so unless Jack Teixeira can prove he's a Republican, the law is working as Republicans intend it to.

The lineup of republican assholes in and out of congress just keeps growing. How do these nauseating individuals look in a mirror. The answer is they don’t have the courage to see who they have become or always were.

In case you missed it, the assholes have always been with us.

Trump has made it OK to let one's asshole flag fly openly and proudly.

To be clearer, some people have no shame, but the cleverer sociopaths can logically deduce 'proper behavior' if they want to hide their nature. Trump doesn't see the point in hiding anything, and now lots of others don't either.

They’re relieved they don’t have to hide who they are anymore. They are what they are showing us. Believe them and vote fir Democrats all down any ballot.
