I was in Mt. Lebanon, a South Hills community in Pittsburgh, PA. We had an estimated 3,000 on attendance. Early on there were calls for a doctor to assist someone - 3 doctors quickly responded until EMS arrived. Otherwise it was completely unremarkable in terms of anything beyond a peaceful and encouraging sense of community. I can't seem to figure out how to post a photo, but my favorite signs were 'Fall is my favorite anti-fascist season' and 'I'm here -- where's my $$$$?'
Houston, Texas had a good crowd! The police were laughing and chatting. No disruptions at all. Favorite sign: If Kamala was President, we would be at brunch now
I was traveling out of town by car, but proudly wearing a bright yellow shirt to demonstrate for democracy. Passed marchers on side streets and honked. The question remains, why is it “No Kings?” Why not call the POTUS what he is….a wanna be dictator. In my opinion a better slogan might be “No (yellow haired)Dictator”!
I was at the Madison, WI No Kings march. Official crowd size estimate was 15,000. Beautiful weather, lots of costumes and mostly home made signs, music, no problems whatsoever. As far as I know, bystanders were friendly, nobody heckled or impeded the march. Madison Police Dept. reports no arrests or incidents involving protesters.
Costume sightings included: frog, pink flamingos, shark, zebra, bananas, chickens, a couple of eagles (with a VERY rude caricature of Noem), and some dancing dinosaurs.
Smaller marches were going on in the suburbs and small towns. No problems reported.
As an amusing contrast, in another part of town 20 people were arrested ( for fighting, underage alcohol, disorderly conduct and throwing things) at the Wisconsin v. Ohio State football game which was taking place at the same time as the No Kings event. Not sure what the symbolism was, but maybe the violent reputed communist/anarchist/whatevers decided to go to the game instead of the protest ;).
I was among 550 folks arrayed along a main drag in Griffin, GA, everyone happy to be there and enthusiastic. I can't say that everyone driving by responded one way or the other but of those that did let us know their feelings, 80 percent were enthusiastically supportive. A lone Trump supporter waved a listless banner across the street from us and no one stopped to join him.
I was at a massive No Kings parade/rally/protest in downtown San Diego. There were at least 50% more people there than in June; this time, there were many more young people as well. Aside from one MAGA motorcyclist who expressed frustration at having to wait through a green light and was gunning his motor, I didn't witness any aggressive behavior at all. It really was a day of community, peace, and solidarity among the various different groups who turned out. There were lots and lots of flags. I even saw someone with a large, yellow Gadsden flag (Don't Tread on Me), which MAGA has co-opted along with the US flag, so the participants were reclaiming both. As far as numbers of attendees, SDPD reported it at a mere 25,000. There were definitely far, far more at the combined three downtown protests that ultimately converged. I won't make a Trumpian claim as to how big the crowd was, but it was yuuuge. In a fundamentally military town.
Meanwhile, the Fuehrer in training, JD Vance, presided over a live fire exercise at Camp Pendleton about 30 miles north. That required shutting down a stretch of I5, which is analogous to shutting down I95 on the east coast. A pox be upon him.
As the No Kings Rallies all over the country are so peaceful and symbolic, I wonder if the 6+ million as***les who voted for Biden in 2020 and decided to stay home 'because of price of eggs' in 2024 are yet hanging their heads in shame.... Again, probably not!!!
don't hold your breath, turns out there weren't any "Haley" voters either. Republicans who just can't stomach this stuff and stayed home or voted for Harris. Kind of non existent
Big turnout at suburban Milwaukee NK protest. Lots of cars honking in support. Surprisingly there was no counter protest other than a single SUV with Trump flags that made several passes back and forth along the route. And no one in the passing vehicles gave us the finger. I didn't expect that.
The House is NOT in recess. It's an ajournment. The House must hold pro-forma sessions every 3 days and then adjourn again (using various parliamentary tactics). A quorum of the House (218) can force a vote so the House goes back into session. There are 217 on the Discharge Petition plus the Johnson or his lackey in the Speaker's chair. That's a quorum. Force a vote. Force Johnson to publicly deny the will of the House and the American people. Members may be feckless, but they are also cowardly and lazy. Americans need the House in session and doing its job. The Speaker serves with the support of the House. He cannot dictate, either. "No Kings" must also mean a House actually representing Americans.
HUGE crowds in Cary, NC.....suburb of Raleigh. More people came out than I ever dared hope!! Thousands on the sidewalk and a steady stream of honkng cars. We even had fire trucks and ambulances turn on their sirens as they passed by. It was really exciting!! There are also two events in Raleigh, but others in neighboring towns.
Wil Salatan hits the mark virtually every time. His discussion of Speaker Johnson raises excellent points. Johnson, the falsely pious one, has sold his soul. Michael Roth of Wesleyan is clear eyed in his analysis of the issues facing higher education. Good to hear Damon Linker again on Mona's podcast.

Feckless indeed! We definitely need more ‘feck’ in our congress!

Can I share photos from today's protest somewhere here??
Bozeman Montana big big turnout today !
*Really*? I was just there a few weeks ago (I have lots of family). Good to hear! Was it mostly MSU students and faculty?
It was all ages. Mostly older folks like me in their 60s. Was really great turnout and smiles and great signs too !!
Jim, the choice in baseball is easy for Guardians fans. For most of the country, actually. ABLA. Anybody but Los Angeles.
