There was a twinge of "something's not right here" and sure enough, it finally came out. I do wonder if the husband attempted to extort Gonzales, since the texts & his interview went public just as Texas Early Voting started. I don't know how anyone (esp one with 6 kids) could not wish to shrink from public view and become a forgiveness-seeking monk with that on their conscious. He acts like its a he-said/she-said over a glass of wine thrown at a restaurant rather than the self-immolation of a former staffer over an affair (which he apparently vehemently denied at the Texas Tribune Festival).
