“Regardless of these differences, Johnson didn’t believe either lawmaker’s scandal warranted a clear condemnation.”

At least Johnson’s consistent; he truly exemplifies the meaning of being a true Christian; gods love and forgiveness!

Especially, if you happen to be a pedophile in good standing in the Republican Party or are a coconspirator in one of the largest corrupt crime enterprises ever to exist! Just saying!…:)

He has his priorities

Was thinking the very same thing. Mike (the importance of religion) Johnson appears to have laid down that torch.

Any chance the Dems will walk, if Donny Two-Dolls starts in with a racist/sexist/pro-fascism/lectern-pounding tirade? There's been talk of them not showing at all, but walking out mid-Mussolini-rant would show they're not afraid of him.

Rose Weiss's avatar

A number of them are having separate events, like holding townhalls with constituents.

I read somewhere that Epstein survivors will be in attendance, so it would be cool to stand (and walk out) with them. But they don't all have to be there for that to be effective.

Eva Seifert's avatar

That's what I want them to do. Better optics than not showing up - the cameras won't show empty seats. But a walk out . . . And it will really, really get his goat.

I hope you at least have a little fun tonight Joe. Thanks for being always diligent!

Hmmm! I wonder who Mrs. Gonzales will be voting for in the primary election?

Mary Aylmer's avatar

Let's hope it's Gretel Enck!

“ If the accusation of something is going to be a litmus test for someone being able to continue to serve in the House, you’ll have a lot of people who’d have to resign or be removed or expelled from Congress,” Johnson said. “So I think you gotta allow this to play out.”

There’s more than just an accusation - there’s a woman who felt so hopeless from being harassed that SHE SET HERSELF ON FIRE.

I think Mike Lee’s only regret was the outright message that ICE agents are equivalent to cartel hitmen. Whatever he was trying to say about the rest of us was far less clear!

It's all about power for MAGA/GOP. They don't care if their majority depends on moral degenerates.

This Texas sex scandal will be interesting to watch. Trump has pardoned many for less. Paxton was much worse and is still employed by the corrupt Abbott and redneck GOP. My bet - Abbott finds a job for him and another good ole boy takes his place.

The GOP has no ethics and is full of pedophiles so fooling around with an aged women means nothing. And women mean nothing to MAGA.

Bruce Jordan's avatar

GOP men would have no use for women if they didn't have a vagina.

Ben Gruder's avatar

I wouldn't be surprised if some MAGA govt employee or influencer accuses Gonzelez's late staffer of being a domestic terrorist.

steve robertshaw's avatar

Or even a MAGA Congress critter (Like Mike Lee?)

I can't stand his voice but, dang, I'm interested in watching his come apart, so I'll probably watch. I wonder what the predictions are about whether or not we're striking Iran during his speech. It would be so Trumpian to do so and the older he gets, the Trumpier he's getting. I'm thinking he will, but I so hope I'm wrong.

Ben Gruder's avatar

You've got a stronger stomach than I. The sound of his voice is absolutely disgusting to me and there is no upside to hearing his firehose of sh*t.

Julie's avatar

I know, I'll see how I do. I find everything revolting and repellent...his voice, his face, his hair, his mouth, his attitude. Everything. I am curious to see how many people aren't there, though.

Mia's avatar

Please don’t watch, don’t give him the TV ratings! There will be plenty of clips to see!

I live in the district adjacent to TonyG's so have followed him w/ some interest. He has been one of the few to call out Trump on some (not all) of his misdeeds including not following the herd for dismissing the 2020 vote as "rigged". Not sure if its been made public but an EXTREMELY GRAPHIC rundown on her injuries appeared in the San Antonio Express-News Sunday, quoting her condition after she set herself on fire as "the only part of her body that wasn't burned was the soles of her feet" (she doused herself in gasoline and set herself on fire in her backyard, then came back in the house and called 911 with her son screaming in the background-OMG). There was a twinge of "something's not right here" and sure enough, it finally came out. I do wonder if the husband attempted to extort Gonzales, since the texts & his interview went public just as Texas Early Voting started. I don't know how anyone (esp one with 6 kids) could not wish to shrink from public view and become a forgiveness-seeking monk with that on their conscious. He acts like its a he-said/she-said over a glass of wine thrown at a restaurant rather than the self-immolation of a former staffer over an affair (which he apparently vehemently denied at the Texas Tribune Festival). It was said in the same article that her suicide was not for her husband finding out, but for finding out her husband had his own affair. Holy &U#)%($*.

Gonzales could at least have the decency to go hike the Appalachian Trail awhile

Jim Taylor's avatar

Or kayak the length of the Rio Grande. After all, its the border of his district.

J AZ's avatar

didn't Gov. Abbott put in enough razor wire to make that too risky? My quip was a dated Mark Sanford reference, but here's hoping Rep. G has plenty free time for travel soon. Hopefully he's up a creek if not a Big River

Jim Taylor's avatar

The bad news is his Gov Abbott supported opponent is “The AK Guy” (www.theakguy.com)

who manufactures and sells kits to build Kallashnikovs and thinks Trump walks on water and, oh yeah, would have Uvalde in his district. Gonzales had the decency to introduce some gun legislation that Herrera would, of course, call out while ignoring the rest of the Bill of Rights (unless it benefited his side, of course). So be careful what you wish for. It’s a pretty dark red county.

Such a sad, sad situation.

Liars, cheats, thieves, convicted felon and sexual abusers. The guy's a Republican. My guess is he may very well be the next GOP presidential candidate. He's their perfect candidate, though he may lose the primary to Ken Paxton.

You're right, Joe. It's nice to think that Mike Lee can learn. I also love all the Santa tchotchkes around Christmas time. And, the kids love the tooth fairy.

I won't be watching.

I would rather watch paint dry.

I really can't listen to anyone any more. Even people on the Bulwark, or Substack and I have subscribed to all of them.

I'm tired of hearing what all the members of this administration are doing and not being held accountable by anyone, not even Democrats.

The American people who despise him should file a Class Action law suit against him for his

violation to the Constitution at the very least. There are many other laws he has broken, but no one will go after him.

Since the Republicans don't want to put any kind of tracking device on airplanes in case of a collision, maybe some plane will actually slam into Air Force One for us.

The best comment I've seen on TB today about SOTU was, "I'd rather set my hair on fire and put it out with a baseball bat."

"Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) stopped short of calling for a resignation, but said Gonzales’s behavior 'brings dishonor on the House of Representatives.'”

Is it even possible to bring dishonor on this House of Representatives anymore?

Life is now in Alice in Wonderland world ... it is upside down when Nancy Mace, Loren Boebert, and MTG are the ones with a level head and hold the moral ground for Congress to have better standards. The last couple of months I have been echoing those three (never thought the world would be so upside down or is in a 'rabbit hole'?) and cheering them on for their goodness in their hearts to stand up for what is right and to stand up for those often trampled in the rush for power and money. / On another note, great post Joe!! I can't listen to the State of the Union as my stress is already too high so where do I go to read your comments on it (as if I didn't already have enough pain...)?
