Suppose some of us are too disgusted to vote for either major party. Maybe we live somewhere that swings so little (even in local races) that it's extra-discouraging. Elections don't just need voters. They also need poll workers and poll watchers — and where rules say there must be a minimum number of Republicans present for balance, specifically Republican poll workers and watchers who aren't going to go crazy and gum up the works. Sane people volunteering for these positions displaces potential craziness. Helping others vote in peace is in its own way a "vote against crazy".
