In the film we see two universes where canonical Spider-trauma is averted: Mumbattan (sp?) and the Manhattan Without A Spider-Man. In the first, the universe literally unravels. In the second, Manhattan resembles a post-apocalyptic crime scape: fires on the horizon, a city in ruins. Neither of these results suggest to me that, within the text of the film, Miguel is wrong. Indeed, both suggest to me that Miles, in fact, is wrong.

I was thinking do you think one of the only flaws of the movie is that those rules are a little ill defined? Gwen's dad quits the police force and doesn't become Captain Stacy and we take that to mean her universe is safe, but the trauma is averted. If Miles gets his dad to quit the police force wouldn't the same thing happen? And Miles had a tragedy (losing an uncle) which is obviously way more important to the Spiderman mythos than losing a police captain. Outside of the whole common fiction trope of "I'm not going to sacrifice someone I love to save the world" I think in the movie they're saying Miguel doesn't understand the rules of the universe as well as he thinks he does.

"And Miles had a tragedy (losing an uncle) which is obviously way more important to the Spiderman mythos than losing a police captain."

I think that is the key. Our Peter Parker lost Uncle Ben, Miles lost his uncle, and Gwen lost her boyfriend. I suspect that losing someone important in a way that is tied in some fashion to the would-be Spider-Person's actions is what matters, not that it be a particular person, and Miguel is not seeing that.

I guess in fairness they're saying by calling it ASM 90 thar it's a canonical formational death to 616 Peter and everyone of the variants of Peter has to go through canonical moments.

Here's one. Peter loses an uncle, so did Miles, I suppose a police captain which Miles has to, he also loses his Gwen so will Miles have to lose Gwen top? Even by Miguel's own logic Miles isn't a true Spiderman so why does the universe hinge on him.

You're also answering your own point about Lord and Miller aren't you? If Miguel is, in fact, right and Miles has to let his dad die to be Spiderman you can't beat the universe, you can't beat Spider-canon and the old way and myth is the only way to be Spider-man.

Well ... we'll see how they choose to answer this, won't we!
