Trump loves the Jewish people like a schochet loves an ox.

How strange that hatred so often seems the companion of religion.

Charl here seems to have a decent grasp of the English language for an Afrikaner. I wonder if all of these "easily assimilated" folks have a full set of English skills.

I've been trying to resist with optimism, but when I read things like this, it's hard to stay positive.

Sounds like you might (somehow, still) be expecting something like moral clarity and consistency from Trump&Co. Enjoy the wait. And meanwhile, keep pointing to the fact that it ain't ever going to happen.

By the way, as a woman I just have to note that the uber-'manly' imagery is at least (at LEAST) as horrifying to me as the anti-semitism on display. Who the eff ARE these people? I honestly thought they were dying off. Silly me. Brr.

MAGA hates two things: antisemitism, and the Jews.

Absolutely. I wish all Jews saw this is clearly as we do.

So if a *white* person comes from a 'shit-hole' country, are they the citizen of a 'shit-hole' country, or white? Asking for a friend.

I wonder what the majority of the American Orthodox Jews community have to say about this bit of old school antisemitism?

HP's avatar

We don't like it. We don't like any antisemitism, including when it comes from the left. Or the center. Or fucking anywhere. Hope that helped.

Ben Gruder's avatar

The reason I asked is that it appears the O community really loves Trump because he's supposedly better about Israel and antisemitism on campus (ie the left's antisemitism). And I don't hear Orthodox criticism of right-wing antisemitism in casual converstion: It appears to be only focused on the left. In fact, many of them make a big deal of Qatar's 'secret' funding of US colleges in order to spread anti-Israel propaganda. Are they fine with Trump accepting a 400 milion dollar plane from that same country?

Well, I guess the only way to answer that is to figure out who "they" are. Do you mean Modern Orthodox? Chabad Lubavitch? Hasidim? Mitnagdim? Just general Haredi? Ashkenazi? Sephardi? Mizrachi? Neturei Karta? Kahanites? Someone I missed?

As for not criticizing right wing antisemitism, left leaning Jews tend not to mention left wing antisemitism (present company excluded). So that is just a non issue to me.

Parrhizzia's avatar

Hey, did you hear Chabad-Lubavitch is in the news today?

Ben Gruder's avatar

Certain Chabad et al, but my experience is with modern Orthodox (excluding the upper West Side Manhattan). NJ, Stamford, etc.

Except for truly left-wing, most Jewish people in the Conservative and Reform movement I've run into are absolutely horrified at the antisemitism of the left (esp pro Hamas on campus). They think Columbia and Harvard needed to do a better job. But they do not think Uncle Sam should micromanage them or revoke their tax exempt status.

Yes, when I heard the line about immigrants who can be “more easily assimilated,” coming from the mouth of that ostentatiously arrogant “under secretary,” or whatever the f**k he is, a bright red flag popped into my view - because I know my vocabulary words, and this smooth talking, glib prick can’t slide a fancy word like “assimilation” by me without raising at least one eyebrow. 🤨

Ah, yes, the basic “ease of assimilation” standard. Gee, what if being able to more easily “fit” or “blend in” was one of the criteria for buying a house in a particular neighborhood? How would that work?

Oh, that’s right. It worked that way for decades right here in “the land of the free” ….. and regrettably still does in outsized pockets of prejudice throughout the nation that Sean Hannity once described as “the greatest nation God ever placed on earth.”

As old as I am now (and as naive as I once was), I’ve seen a lot of changes over many decades, and I - quite naively - believed the arc of progress was moving in a consistently upward (i.e., more humane, more civilized, more productive) direction. But I’m seeing now that some apparently innate human characteristics - like tribalism and blinkered self interest - are so strong that overcoming their “lizard brain power” is all but impossible for at least half of the American population (plus or minus a standard deviation or two).

So, the nation that was created by immigrants, and grudgingly but consistently accepted other immigrants over time (many of whom were not so easily assimilated) to this “land of opportunity,” is now trying to establish itself as essentially a gated community where “OTHERS” are not welcome.

I am saddened and sick to my stomach. And as much as I have believed in “The American Dream” and America being an exceptional place throughout most of my life, I am experiencing a crisis of faith. None of this feels good!

That’s ridiculous! Everybody knows gold plated angels can’t fly.

Move the guy to Texas, where he will best assimilate. Get him the hell out of New York State.

Proving his ignorance, this dope resettled in BUFFALO!

Susan, STICKS AND STONES. Don’t waste your time thinking of this fool.

This guy is a perfect match for the members of Trump's cabinet. He's off the air and aggressive.

Actually, I had wondered what took this administration so long since Elon has been feeding his BFF his skewed side of SA things for sometime. He undoubtedly puffed up Trump “ Daddy Donnie, only you can save them”, and we all know how much Trump aspires to being the Savior of White Christian (Nationalists) whose Christmas and dignity and Country have been stolen from them. Did my own research a couple of months ago on Elon’s family and history and the current situation. The antisemitism expressed by this particular new “refugee” gels with the greater “victimhood” they themselves claim and their very deep anti-liberalism they justify to restore their dominance, co-opting “Never again” as their cause. It’s pretty sick convoluted thinking, but true to form, and they have found their patsy.

If the State Department looked at Mr. Kleinhaus a little closer, they might realize he is suntanned enough to classify as a Brown, hence, easily deportable for his blatant anti-semitism.
