Yes the 60s were violent and scary and I recall thinking as the 70s arrived that the 60s had "killed all our heroes " and I worried there would be no more. The violence then was based on ideals or passions, positions or even political beliefs, rather than cold blooded grasp of raw power personally. Remember that old saying about "if you're not liberal when you're young you have no heart; if you're not conservative when you're old you have no brain"? It seems age (and financial responsibilities) tends to make one more conservative at least fiscally. But we have gone way beyond anything like policy matters into tribal hatreds. Maybe it's in the water....
