Regarding the Cheap Shots: We are already seeing how MAGA is going to handle this--create nonsensical conspiracy theories. Everyone else needs to be out there, loud and clear, asking questions like: How would freezing and defunding the federal government impact air traffic controllers? Was it a good idea to fire the head of TSA for no reason except wanting a loyalist in place? Should the Aviation Safety Advisory Committee have been hollowed out in the first days of the Trump administration?
Great point but the incentive structures and electoral structures have been dulled and bastardized from media to the hubris of Democratic leadership. Those questions are too esoteric or in the weeds for a population blinded by shiny objects.
Then say the same thing in a stupid way. Literally take your argument, feed it to an AI, and ask it to distill it to a fourth-grade reading level with short declarative sentences, high emotional valence, and schoolyard insults. Create some burner accounts and spread it in as many forums with low-info, low-propensity voters as possible.
You are right, and that's part of the problem. I'm a Democrat, and (not unrelated) highly educated with a science background. Guess what goes against everything in my nature: poorly-founded accusations, conspiracy theories, black-and-white statements about causality. It's my nature to put things as I did above. And I don't really want to be on the side of a left-version of this whacko conspiracy theorist. But I agree that caution and nuance and adherence to know facts don't work on social media, or in today's political or media environment. I don't quite know how to solve the conundrum. What supposedly "normie" Republicans did was hitch a ride on the extremists in their coalition to consolidate power. It worked, and now they are reaping the whirlwind, but at the moment, they are winning.

Hope! I think. History suggests cycles and unfortunately pain also inspires improvement.
