About that North Korean style military parade on Trump’s birthday (and the anniversary of the army, of course but I’m sure that’s secondary in Trumps mind),
NOW we understand why he kept Hegseth around! Let’s see if he jettisons him post dear leader parade.
But just like the originalist scotus judges they interpret the Bible’s and the Constitution to suit their needs, but tell the press otherwise.. like nobody would figure that out.
Bondi may be smarter than we're giving her credit for. Her outlandish claim about Trump saving three-quarters of the U.S. population drew everyone's attention away from the fact that her base claim is garbage. According to the Customs & Border Patrol, fentanyl seizures in February and March of FY 2025 were LOWER than those of the same months in FY24 and FY 23. Interesting that she chose to spin it the way she did, rather than blame Biden for higher amounts of fentanyl entering the country under his watch. https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/drug-seizure-statistics
Clap on, clap off. Crown on, crown off. Tariffs on again, tariffs off again. We can’t fly them back, we did fly them back. Geez Louise. Trump is no different than the sump pump in my Michigan basement. On, off, on, off. At least my sump pump does its job.
After research on deadly infectious diseases has gone AWOL long enough, what could be the result? Those who understand these things have said it's not if, but when, the next pandemic arrives. Am I missing something here? What in god's name is the "gain" in the view of people seeking this action? The rejection of critical and life saving research on infectious diseases. What could be the outcome of stopping this kind of research? Some answers are highly unpalatable. But the question has to be asked: what is the justification? I don't think I like some of the answers suggesting themselves to me. Human life is precious.
1) The first section of today’s Morning Shots can be summarized by what I refer to as the Prime Directive of the Cult of Trump: Nothing is Ever Trump’s Fault (and the First Corollary to the Prime Directive is: Every Good Thing that Happens Must Be Attributed to Trump). As long as you keep that in mind, nothing that the Trumplicants do or say should come as a surprise.
After blaming the economic news on the “Biden hangover”, Trump also said that the second quarter might also reflect the “hangover”. In other words, if the economy continues to tank, it will be Biden’s fault. But if it does better than expected, Trump will take credit. He wins either way.
It’s not surprising that politicians try to spin things to make themselves look good. What is surprising is how many people will just simply shrug and accept such amateurish attempts to evade responsibility. Trump imposes tariffs and the stock market tanks. He pauses the tariffs and the market soars. He reimposes the tariffs and it tanks. He pauses the tariffs again and the market soars. Yet, somehow, the tariffs aren’t really the reason the market is going down. And it’s Trump’s “amazing leadership” that is making it go up.
But this is the guy who blamed Obama for not inventing a test for a disease that didn’t exist yet. And not everyone laughed in his face.
It is a cult after all.
2) If RFK Jr. wants to spend more time focusing on chronic diseases, maybe that’s a good thing. But it shouldn’t be done at the expense of other disease research. I simply don’t understand why anyone would be OK with stopping or even slowing down cancer research, for example. What is the purpose?
How does one get on this Bulwark Slack? (I am a Bulwark member)
I tried logging in to thebulwark.slack.com with the same email I have for Substack and it says " <my email> doesn’t have an account on this workspace."
If I try to get into Slack itself it says I need to make a workspace.
Laura Loomer identified you as a Trump hater and since they can't take The Bulwark down, they are attempting to take down the subscribers one by one. She called Kash Patel to get the FBI on to you, but he was too busy at Caesar's Palace trying to win back his losses at the Blackjack table. She then called Pete Hegseth but he was indisposed in the makeup room with a bottle of Tequila, whilst on a Signal chat with Ru Paul for tips about using foundation.
Starting to get frustrated she called Kristi Noem who intially agreed to help, but then declined when she found out there was no cosplay involved and the task didn't involve photo ops or shooting puppies. After working her way through the rest of the cabinet (in multiple ways), Laura bumped into Big Balls who said he was happy to help out a chick made entirely of Botox. He's hacked your account and is mucking around, whilst trying to figure out how to make the Botox chick agree to be his first girlfriend :)
They're very picky about which parts they're religious about. Matthew 25:41 was written by a Communist, don't you know? Also all those "love your neighbor" parts.
Pam Bondi is a disgrace to her title, her profession, and to the USA. She should be disbarred for her gross incompetence and her horrifically partisan corruption of the Dept. of Justice. Unlike Bondi, first year law students know how to read a Supreme Court decision. And ALL of us know not to lie to a Judge or lie to the public (who pay her with their tax dollars).
I would not be surprised if the placeo arm of these vaccine trials is intended to show that vaccines cause autism. Or if RFK Jr. twists that arm to make that point.
In the scope of so many excellent points made in today's Morning Shots, I almost hesitate to say how grateful I am to Bill, as he is the first writer I've seen refer to the tariff / trade war insanity as Trump's War on Christmas, and I have been watching and waiting.
For those who didn't click through the "ritual sacrifice" link in the opening:
"Cutting the nipples off was more than torture. The aim was to dethrone the king. "Sucking a king’s nipples was a gesture of submission in ancient Ireland," says Kelly. "Cutting them would have made him incapable of kingship in this world or the next."
I'm now picturing an ancient Irish Trump sitting on the throne loudly proclaiming to a table of his counsel that he has tremendous nips, the best nips and lots of people say they are the best nips they've ever seen. And then his counsel each in turn affirm the greatness of his nipples to him.

Marco Rubio is destined to become a cautionary tale.

A few comments...

3) Answer to Ann Coulter: No

Help Mr Wizard! 😕

Rutro!
I don't have anything to offer Trump, so Canada here I come!
Can Americans claim asylum in Canada? 💼
PS What about the Bulwark Slack?
Ah thanks for the link to Slack 🙏🏻
Update: ah it's on Substack, maybe someday I'll know how this works!
Most of these people claim to be fairly to very religious. I guess they would be familiar with proverbs 11 : 29 . Just sayin.
They're very picky about which parts they're religious about. Matthew 25:41 was written by a Communist, don't you know? Also all those "love your neighbor" parts.
I didn't know what a"smol bean" was until today.
Andrew has the best words, a lot of people say so!
The mute button still works - use it.

She's also stupid. I'm surprised the camera crew didn't burst out laughing at her comment about 230 million dead from fentanyl.
I would not be surprised if the placeo arm of these vaccine trials is intended to show that vaccines cause autism. Or if RFK Jr. twists that arm to make that point.
Likely it’s to make it nearly impossible to run a trial for a new vaccine since no subject will choose to participate in the trial.
