I think you guys are missing the point in mocking the ballroom. It’s real significance is that Trump is pissing on the White House and claiming it as his own. It is one step away from putting up a golden sign, “Trump’s Place” over the White House. I think it is his way of saying, “I’m not leaving again. This is mine."

My son and son-in-law took me to see Queen of Versailles at its pre-opening in Boston. Never thought I'd compare her lines to DJTs. Will he narrate a video during construction? We'll have to endure him in a hardhat again. The project will be fraught with cost overruns, he certainly won't hire union labor, and I hope it languishes in regulatory hell. Then maybe the next administration can unfinish the job.

Will he lease it out? How many functions, period, much less state functions, need that much space? I shudder to think how long it will take to walk to the powder room and back.

He just wants to rent it out for weddings. Very expensive weddings. Just another revenue stream.

Well, you have to pave over the Rose Garden. It's hard to walk in grass in 5 inch stiletto heels. That is the standard for Trump women...or girls.

It's interesting that supposed opulence is supposed to bring satisfaction and happiness. The problem is that, as my mom would say, "No matter where you go, there you are". No matter the changes we make outwardly, we're the same inside. All the gold toilets and White House ballrooms in the world will never make DT happy because he doesn't have it in him.

Tim. The Trump "upgrade" of the Oval Office is most definitely a tasteless, vulgar downgrade into early 19th century bordello. OMG. So not an upgrade.

the point of the lamp posts is to add another incoherent note of vulgarity to the ballroom. how much will it cost to remove the room when Trump leaves office?

So, according to New York magazine, the Trump ballroom is not going to be for dancing, but rather for State Dinners, which up until now have had to be held under a tent outside if the number of guests exceeds the capacity of the existing State Dinner venue (capacity roughly 200). Trump thinks the tent setup is tacky and ugly.

“Trump’s White House Ballroom Is a Neoclassical Bludgeon -

An overscale, reactionary solution to the question of where to host a big state dinner.”
