I'm coming to this two days late, and it's amazing just how much the narrative focus has changed. To be clear, I'm not suggesting anyone connected to Trump orchestrated the Charlie Kirk assassination as a distraction, and the fact that I even feel compelled to clarify that is truly bonkers. And you could say that was a truly extreme event that Trump was lucky in the timing no matter how horrible every other aspect of that was.

What that means, for me, is politically, people are reacting more to a buildup than any one event. It matters that we got at least some of the truth: for the victims, for justice, and for (one hopes?) dragging MAGA back a bit from their conspiracies. But politically, if this matters (& it should) it will be the cumulative weight of scandal on top of scandal, accusation on top of accusation, that feel just plausible enough and landed at the right time to leave an impression on peoples' minds. It's not like we catch him in a horrible lie and that's it, QED.

That thought's truly depressing, at least for me. I'm not sure what we can or should do about it. Reality should matter more than that.

The felon is dumber than a box of rocks. Most assuredly a pervert. Epstein is reaching out from the grave. Numb nuts is right to be afraid.

As for the raid in Georgia, exactly the kind of moronic move that will surely keep manufacturing from ever returning to the US. Way to go ICE. Noemnothing strikes again.

Culture of Corruption.... I like it!! It can indeed be used to tie together just about every single dastardly thing the MAGA R's are doing. I think our biggest problem will be the fact that the Supreme Court is part of the COC now... and if we're not able to do something about THAT, we're done for.

Trump is too stupid to learn. If he'd keep his mouth shut he'd be much better off. I'm grateful, in this instance, that Trump is a big, bloviating mouth.

Comparing the "Donalds", did anyone else notice that the lower case "ds" all have open tops? It is just the sort of thing that a forensic document examiner looks for.

Donald Trump said don't believe what ears hear or your eyes see. Because he knew this was coming.

Corruption is a great issue to run on. First, it’s so flagrant. Second, it ties into everything else:

- Why are wages not rising faster? Trump’s FTC is in league with big business, killing the rule on non-compete.

- Why are prices high? Trump’s FTC is allowing too many mergers to go through, restricting competition, etc..

Corruption is a Christmas tree from which you can hang so much that’s wrong with this administration.

Yes... and it ALSO suggests that the Dems are ready to make some fundamental changes to our broken system. Many have argued that this needs to happen, and I tend to agree.

Tobacco doesn't harm people. Lowering taxes on rich people and corporations raises government income. There is no climate change. Iraq has nuclear weapons. Republicans are for fiscal responsibility. Trump had the largest inauguration crowd ever.

and so on.

Republicans have been telling lies in service of their oligarchic overlords and personal ambition for decades.

Trump is so busted. But what does it really matter? He'll keep denying everything, and nearly all his supporters will believe him or pretend they do or just not care. We've been down this road so many times. Access Hollywood, impeachments, Jan 6, indictments, convictions, fraud, on and on.

His 40% will stick by him till he drops. Hopefully he drops real soon.

It's been clear from the jump that Trump objectifies and casually violates women—and champions others of the same ilk. His election (twice) signaled that many Americans either don't care or like that in a man. Now rape coordinator Ghislaine is getting special favors for calling Trump a "gentleman" (lol) and Fox News is going on about lurid crimes in blue cities and highlighting Bill Clinton's comparatively innocuous birthday-book note (not that I excuse Clinton's rotten behavior). MAGA's railing about perverts was always narrowly focused on political enemies. I don't expect that to change.

The stultification of the Republican Base has been going on for decades. Actually, for generations. Read Tim Alberta's book, "The Kingdom, The Power and The Glory" for a detailed description of the indoctrination of evangelical Christians. Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich and now, Charlie Kirk, all have convinced a large segment of society that they are under violent threat from "The Enemy Within". They, the indoctrinated, now believe that Valdimir Putin is an honest broker of truth while Joe Biden is responsible for everything bad that is happening. Trump's letter to Epstein will make no difference to the indoctrinated. The Grotesquerie will continue and the most egregious part is what has been done to the minds of the indoctrinated. It will affect us all, not only the indoctrinated.
