It's a lot like the coverage of the E. Jean Carroll trial. It's all focused on Trump's outbursts and Trump's behavior and the incompetence of Trump's lawyers. Where is the coverage of the facts: Trump is getting due process. Trump is sitting in court, presenting his case to a jury of his peers, a jury questioned by his lawyers, a group of people from whom his lawyers could exclude people he thought prejudicial. They are going to render a judgement. And he is going to have to pay some consequence.
This is not Joe Biden. These people are not the Deep State. They are not anti-Trumpers. They are a representative sample of the people in the jurisdiction where he committed his crime. He was convicted of a serious crime by a similar jury, sitting in the same courtroom.
Why are we talking about Trump's behavior and the performance of his lawyers instead of the testimony being presented to this jury, why they're there and what's being asked of them?
The people who are paying attention to some types of media and to this case assume that court cases have the things you listed...jury selection, having a lawyer etc. That's why the media is reporting on the behavior going on during the trial. That's the oddball stuff that people will click on to read about.
In the meantime, the audience and media that the former president cares about sees his behavior and that of his lawyer as part of the resistance to the elites' petty rules about who can talk and when, judges interfering with the presentation of the case, judges telling the defendant and his lawyers to sit down and be quiet. All designed to entrap someone and prevent them from saying what they want. The idea of the unfairness of the institutions created by the elites resonates...my boss is unfair, my people don't get any breaks while other people get all the breaks. That some old broad is complaining about something that happened years and years ago and wants to get money from it is unfair. All the explaining in the world won't make a dent in that general feeling of unfairness.
I think what might help with these people is to point out that every loser idiot in every city jail in this country thinks like Donald Trump. They all say the cops are racists or the judge hates him or the lawyers are incompetent or the jury was biased. They're locked up for no reason at all! The cops never arrest anyone for [pick your crime: public intox, public urination, loitering, shoplifting, drunk and disorderly, etc.] but because the system's rigged, they're in the clink.
The audience you're talking about would NEVER consider this kind of leeway for any of the knuckleheads down in the jail. Why do they think the rules should be waived for Trump?
Speaking of leeway, has anyone seen anything about a "bail hearing" for t***p in any of the criminal indictments? I suspect this is just one more deference.
You're right they wouldn't and probably will never think those people should get leeway. Those loser idiots are just not the same, not as smart? not as successful? as the former president. They don't like the idiot losers but the former president is not one them. Plus they are quite sure that all real estate developers and politicians are corrupt so the fact that one of them is singled out (their chosen one) while the others are not is proof positive that the former president is right.
I agree completely.

Why? Revenue. Clicks. Advertising. Squirrels. Capitalism. Media consolidation. Money. Spectacle. Misogyny. Albigensian Crusade. Did I say money?
