The right’s conviction that businesses are caving to the external demands of anti-corporate leftists is nothing that most of us who actually work at corporations would recognize. Externally, the so-called “wokeness” is about market perception; internally, it’s a response to workforces that are increasingly diverse. Apparently, all of this takes a back seat to external right-wing pressure from conservative governments and pundits.

Well written. Diversity is apparently a red cape waving at the masculine bulls of the GOP. They haven't left the military out of their angst either....which is why I find it karmic that Tucker's big bad tough real army has been decimated in Ukraine and is now better at deserting than fighting.

Sadly the right's voters don't seem to work in corporate America. So they don't see that in many corporations, the environment is truly far more diverse than a Trump rally.

Idk. Plenty of Chamber of Commerce type Rs work in corporate environments, and anyone other than the lowest of low isolated folks know good and well that the country is changing and is more diverse. THIS is exactly why these things are happening; they know their positions are taking them further and further away from the majority of the country and they just refuse to adapt. Instead, they have chosen to dig in with autocratic methods, and they are priming their ever decreasing base to roar approval as they seek "vengeance on the leftists". Even the average trump rally attendee realizes things are changing; it is the life source of their angst.

I do think that's accurate, Amy. They cannot WIN an election based on their "values" or beliefs, so they have perfected stealing them (in large part by accusing The Other Party of doing what they themselves are doing). So much of this seems to go in a direct line back to slavery, too. Fear of People of Color; fear that POC will do to Them what They have been doing for centuries to POC. Hence the fear of and thus the refusal to adapt, as you say. If there is anything like a "nutshell" in this mess, I think you've hit on it!

Yeah, I would agree with you that there is fear of how whites would be treated if they were the minority. I don't think that is organic for most; it has been fed to them in an effective propaganda "othering" long term plan. The demographics have been very clear for at least several decades that whites will be a minority group eventually. Some areas are already there.. Especially when even reasonable immigration is factored in, which is a big reason they oppose ALL immigration and use it like a cudgel. The historical racial animus is now perceived as an existential threat. Make America Great AGAIN harnesses all the many fears they carry in one cheap phrase.

I can't tell that most of the right's voters work at all. They have an awful lot of time on their hands for hate and violence.

And they probably never go to Disney World.

The rally goers don't. The keyboard warriors don't either. Otherwise, I don't think the rank and file (R) voter pays enough attention to know to avoid Disney and ESPN.

Of course, it is hard to tell, with the impact of the pandemic making the numbers crazy for 2020 and 2021.

Not to mention attending rallies and donating money to TFG and his cons.

If they don’t work, how do they pay for their their big trucks and the gas to get to all the rallies? I wondered the same thing about the people at the so-called Freedom Truck Extravaganza in Ottawa last winter and the feeble attempt to do the same obnoxious.

Public mischief in DC a few months later.

Handouts from the government they want to overthrow because it does not take care of the little folk?
