late to the party today but I wanted to thank you for sharing the Ken White article-- he articulated a lot of my thoughts on the one-sided nature of "free speech" on the internet and college campuses much better than I could. It's always boggled by mind how few (even very intelligent) people understand that being protected from prosecution for speech by the government doesn't entitle you to a platform provided by a private entity, or that everyone in your vicinity *must* listen and give consideration to what you have to say. You can scream "the sky is actually neon green" until you're blue in the face, doesn't mean I have to waste my time listening and debating you.
We backed into the playoff spot. History says these barely over .500 playoff teams actually do well in the postseason. Of course, we are outspent about 5:1 by the Dodgers' roster, but we have something on our side, too: youth!
Regarding redrawing districts: It is possible that whoever is elected - Democrat or Republican - just might try to actually represent ALL of their constituents, no matter their political persuasion. I would really like to see this message hammered into every member of Congress. "No taxation without representation." Every citizen has the right to be fairly represented in government.
The Cleveland story is an impressive one, to be sure. I was waiting for the Reds to find a way to lose their fragile lead, and the game, to the Brewers last night. Kind of hard to believe that they could be a playoff team after a pretty nondescript season, and with the offense of a high school team, it seems. (So, maybe the story is more about the Mets' collapse in this case.) But they are on the verge, pending these next two games. Common sense tells me that even if they make it, the Reds will be fodder for a better team. But I can look at those big United Dairy Farmers beverage cups from this summer, featuring the Great Eight (1975-1976 Reds' starting lineup), and dream. Maybe something is meant to be.
Good deal! I have them in my office at work -- a little something to make the room a little warmer and put a stamp of personality on it. It is a nice set. At least the Reds did make the playoffs this year after all -- hopefully they can make some noise out in LA.
I watched the ad put out by Home of hate Brave. Thanks for the link. NOTHING has made be feel better in a long time than watching that. If Joe Rogan and his followers turn on Trump, there is truly hope for our democracy. Well done!!
Was there last night in Toronto. So grateful you haven’t forgotten your Canadian neighbours. We just want normalcy to return. Great show. Love The Bulwark. ❤️
I'm so glad you had a good time. I only got to see pictures and hear accounts from readers and colleagues. I hope everyone is enjoying some Tim Bits this am. I'm drinking Tim Hortons in solidarity!
An early submission to the "annual Overtime World Series Prediction Contest".
The Seattle Mariners are the only team in MLB that has never played in a World Series, much less won the championship. That alone is reason to wish them well. And they're good this year. So I say it's the M's in five games over the Dodgers.
And they have Josh Naylor. I was up late watching them putting this together after the Reds won and Guardians lost. Got to see Jonathan Cohn's Red Sox clinch and deal the Tigers a loss. I wish Seattle the best until they play my team and if they do and when I do believe in the longest world series drought should win theorem

Go Guardians! Likable young team.
Already Mike Johnson is acting in an unconstitutional manner. He won't administer the oath of Office to the new Texas house member - Adelita Grijalva.
Mike took an oath - but it appears to mean nothing.
Go Reds!

thanks for the Big Little Lions link... my new favorite music :)

I have a few of those cups! Skyline overbought. Instead of $5 for it, I got mine for .50.

What a perfect music choice. I sighed deeply; the images and lyrics thoroughly resonate with the awfulness.

FIGHT for our Democratic Republic!!!
Support and vote for these Democratic candidates on Nov. 4, 2025, so they can win overwhelmingly:
Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey and
Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia.

Manager Dan Wilson has been one of my heroes since he was behind the plate. Would love to see him win the big one.
It's been so much fun watching the Mariners this season! I hope you're right! 😁
