I feel heartbroken that -as an ordinary citizen (white, elderly) that grew up as a child being told "the policeman is your friend" now feel law enforcement are the enemy of the public, allied to the majority political party against the minority party, more likely to be brutal or untrustworthy. Compared to a year ago I feel less likely to report a crime, less likely to cooperate or interact with law enforcement, and have stopped giving to the local police benevolent association. The entanglement of ICE with local police, and the manipulation of branches of law enforcement by the current administration are transforming our landscape of public trust. This serves no one well.
We will have a problem as long as one party places no value on institutional stability, and is willing to use the power of the government to punish those who criticize it. The Democrats are going to have to adopt the same tactics, with an important difference.
For example, the next Democratic president should stop all funding going to evangelical colleges and state universities in Republican states. The difference is the president will announce the action, and at the same time recommend the university leaders ask their elected representatives to negotiate with Congressional Democrats on a bill to prevent the action. Republicans would not work on a bill like that now, because they believe they are the only ones who would take the actions it prohibits. They will negotiate when they are being hurt.
Project 2025 provides a good road map of laws that need to be written.
Love the TACO Merch cap! Thinking of an extension: TACO BACO (Bullies) since both fit the Felon and the second one has always been true, even before he came down the golden escalator. Final reason for both: Not sure which one would get to him more😏.
The question is not What is unchecked power able to do. We have seen that. The question is What are you willing to do? Good Night and Good Luck.
Jim, I miss your daily newsletter. Ever consider doing it more than once a week?

Act! , Resist!, save our Democratic Republic.
1. Actively work to vote ALL Republicans out of office.
2. Hole anti-Trump/Musk demonstrations in front of the local offices of Republicans.
3. Join these organizations in sending letters and postcards to likely Democratic voters urging them to VOTE: www.votefwd.org and. www.turnoutpac.org/postcards
4. Contribute to these organizations: www.defendingdemocracy.org www.senatemajority.com
www.democracydocket.com www.thehousemajoritypac.org www.21stcenturydems.org
