I think that nails it. Ryan seems the kind of person you'd love to have as a neighbor. You could give him the keys to your house and car and he would watch them while you were away and even come over and cut the grass or shovel the walk (Wisconsin) without even mentioning that he was doing it. And yet he goes to work every day (board meetings and such) with organized criminals and takes payment for his services. Which so far as anyone can tell are politely disregarded because to them he's merely a beard brought in to help add an air of gentility.
Ryan is a man who has convinced himself that Omerta is attorney client privilege. This allows him to walk among thieves and remain honest.
