It's been that way for quite some time, only less blatant. The GQP have long been trying to purge voter roles, limit early and mail voting, and make it harder to register.
The Democrats in each voting district should provide buses and vans to bring voters to the voting polls where the local police will be letting them in while ICE is right outside trying to stop them from going in. It might bring conflict - - it probably will-- but more assured votes will be completed.
Thanks, Lauren, for bringing up issues that dems have to figure out.
It sound like morgan has an English problem of what is a private conversation.🥸
Identity politics is stupidity, in this monk's very humble opinion. This monk is "color-blind". We are all humans...Alas, many folks are insecure and have a need to express hatred for the other, via identity politics, whether they are maga or left wing nuts. This monk sees Talarico as a good choice.
Still, there are the Bill of Rights, with the right of free speech as part of the FIRST Amendment. Despite trump, we have the right to protest and to do the right thing. The one useful advice this monk learned about free speech: one cannot yell "fire" in a crowded area. Supposedly, one cannot use "offensive words", because too many folks are like "delicate snowflakes". maga have used such "reasoning" for their own excuses. This monk grew up in the hood: just be kind and use one's words wisely. 🙏
Carville gets it, in this monk's very humble opinion. His choice is spot on.
It sure looks like at least some Republicans are gearing up to cheat. I am worried about the integrity of ballots in red areas. They are desperate to hold onto power, and Trump’s poll numbers are bad. I just reviewed all of the ways that they tried to cheat in 2020; I believe that this November will be at least as bad. Remember the fake electors? I hope that I am wrong. But Trump knows that if Dems pull off big wins, his power will be reined in. And he wants to continue making money and cosplaying Boss Hogg.
As for Talerico, is there proof that he said this? It seems like a remarkably dumb thing to say. If he did say it, then shame on him.
Trump's recorded call to the Georgia secretary of state seeking additinal votes should have disqualified him for holding another public office and should have resulted in his conviction and prison term.
The rethugs have been doing this for years...not seating the winner of a congressional election, what happened in 2000.etc..Dems have to be ready to fight EVERYTHING. Everybtimevwe lose should still be a fight
One thing Democrats can do right now is stop making absolute statements like “The Republicans know that they cannot win unless they cheat.” I know they probably meant in this *specific* upcoming election in this *specific* location, but even so—to anyone taking it literally, it’s as nonsensical a statement as when Republicans say it about Democrats. If we’re trying to inspire trust in our elections, this is counterproductive. We can point out Republicans are trying to cheat without declaring any undesirable outcome as fraudulent.
This is an interesting point, one that I've argued about with friends over the last couple of weeks. I think that absolute statements are counterproductive and lead people to conclude that "both sides do it" and then shrug and stop paying attention. So I think Democrats saying the Republicans will cheat for sure is counterproductive when you are trying to reach those who haven't already made up their minds. "You cheat! So do you!" is all they will hear. They will immediately tune out.
But I'm of a different personality type from those who prefer more fierce language, who believe that you have to lay out the worst case scenario before people will pay any attention at all. And they may be right. The stakes are so high and it is hard to see what will be effective.
I think we can still use forceful rhetoric without undermining our own position. Some might dismiss it as semantics, but even something figurative like, “Republicans will do anything to keep the blue wave from crashing down on them,” makes a strong statement without making impossible-to-know claims. (Ultimately people are going to say whatever they want, but I think it’s important to try to live up to our own standards.)
Mark Elias and his law in other law firms see significant challenges ahead for the midterms. I would love to see a post about what they consider those challenges to be and to the extent they can enumerate the expected responses. Thank you
Dems are so weak and embarrassing at times. Most times, probably. That is why we have a second term fascist as president, a corrupt GOP House and Senate, a trump loving SCOTUS and most state legislatues being GOP. Sure, the Constitution almost encourages tyranny of the minority with the senate and electoral college, but dems flailing is not an adequate plan to fight the fascists. Dems and potential dem voters want fighters, not a party cowering in the corner praying they win by landslides. It's freaking pathetic. States should have their nat guard protecting voters from ICE intinidation. They should withhold federal income taxes and starve the beast.. Blue states should form chaters, agreements, and have blue state AGs going to court to stop the fascsits before they put their fascist plans into action. People want to elect democrats because they are better for the people and not the oligharchy. Dems should realize by now that people are not going to give them landslide victories if they refuse to put on the gloves, and fight like they mean it even it it means hitting GOP below the belt as often as possible. Or dems will all end up like nice guy Tim Walz and get the crap beaten up. By the way,why aren;t more naitonal dems in MN? Another weak performance. If dems can't be strong, they can at least stand with those woh are...
Whatever Talarico did or didn’t say, it feels like a “shut it all down, we’re done here” moment for the Texas Dems slim chance at the seat no matter who they’re running against. Stupid is as stupid does and they all deserve to live in political purgatory.
The only way they can win is to cheat!

Good white hat stuff. But maybe hire some black hats to learn the dirty tricks trade. It never hurts to be educated after all...

Thanks, Merrick!
the guy who lost 60 election lawsuits in 2020 wants to take over our elections

Maybe we need both kinds of statements.

Yes. The 'messaging' is impotent and stupid.
In any case, I’m now going to go find out how I can give these Dem election lawyers money.

It would be good to end such a discouraging essay with information about what voters can do right now to help have fair elections.
Give money to Democracy Docket. Join Indivisible and organize ballot watching teams. Etc.
Exactly but not everybody reads the comments. I wanted this at the end of the essay.
What are the proposals that Dems need to run on to win enough House seats beyond "the margin of litigation"?
