Researched a paper for my PhD about "physique" mags from the 50's and their role in homosexual community. This looks exactly the same. It was fascinating.
As usual with these, I continue to be amazed that this stuff is even happening; glad I never knew about it until I read it here; and will never get over the fact that these people have audiences and followings. What a time to be alive.
Conservatives in The Arts? They always have been. Standup Comedy is theatrical. Every open mic I have ever been too is like breeding ground for maggots.
Which is somewhat ironic because to the point of the magazine a guy’s greatest fear is to be laughed at.
I first encountered Taki (who is more correctly called a vile, racist troll with Western-Civ pretensions) through a link in a clothing forum. This doesn't mean that every would-be dandy is alt-right, but wow, did they ever gravitate to (or collectively decide to hijack) such fora.
One day I will write a BLISTERING takedown of his StyleForum posts, with their strange hysterical-authoritarian tone (“If there were no rules, people would wear whatever they wanted!”). Maybe.
I’m trying, Will, really trying to square this circle of nonsense, or circle this square, or make it a trapezoid, or do something with this knowledge of the manosphere that makes any sense. It’s the same way drinking coffee makes no sense to me. It makes me sad knowing the devotion of time and money to which some people will go to create their bitter brew. ( I will say that if I I once drank a cup of an Ethiopian brew that a friend made and I almost liked it.)
The cover depicted here gives me the impression that this is another one of the Right-wing, hyper-masculine things that is actually kinda.... gay? Like they went out the other side of masculinity because they forgot to hit the brakes at some point? Maybe mesmerized by the pecs?
The homosexuality doesn't bother me, I don't care one way or the other--you do you. It is the combination of the in-your-face-ness of it combined with the vociferous denial and "verbal" abuse/derogatory use of (I guess) what they see as effeminate gayness? Gay is okay as long as it is macho (and now macho man song is playing in my head lol) and isn't seen as gay but is disguised as a celebration of macho?
For a bunch of guys who swear they're straight, they sure do spend a lot of time obsessing on hot men and other guys' junk.
Looking at the cover of Man's World, I would have assumed it was a homo erotic publication

I’m just catching up with this entry.
Next you’ll tell me that Cornish-Dale is one of those people who smashes his jaw with a hammer to improve his looks.
He definitely should.
How is any of this real???
I want to go back to a time when I didn't know who these freaks are.
I guess all these alpha tough guys never learned there's a strong correlation between homophobia & latent homosexuality.
Maybe the popularity of the New Right has something to do with all the faux SS leather in most of Tom of Finland's artwork ... :)
PS Let me recommend the movie.

Thanks Will for digging into the inner networks of freaks every day.

And of course Michael Anton was a powerful StyleForum user!

Charles Cornish-Dale is a very gay name. British AND gay. Just saying.
Their behavior confirms my theory, Transphobic men are closeted gay men in denial.
