My dad died in 2009. He had grown up in small town Oklahoma attending segregated schools until HS when he was sent to the integrated HS.

He couldn't believe that a black man was elected president in his lifetime after drinking in 'black only' water fountains and swimming at 'black only' pools as a kid.

I remember him telling me 'I'm scared. They are either going to kill him or burn the whole country down.' He didn't live to see Obama's presidency or his reelection. He also didn't' live to see the 'burning down' part we are experiencing now.

That's why I don't think Harris is an option. The country is issuing retribution and payback in spades for electing a black man president is going to suddenly elect a black woman?

So then you are looking at an entirely new candidate to try to vet and campaign for the biggest office in the country in 120 days? It's fantasy. It's crazy talk.

I know people are feeling like it's a 'layup' to beat a crazy Trump with the power of Dobbs, the fear of Project 2025 and so many anti-Trump voters, but it's not.

It shouldn't be that way. The stakes are so high that people should be willing to vote against Trump regardless of their reservations about Biden's age.

But that's mostly people who have the privilege or ignorance to feel like as high as the stakes are, there is actually a choice to be made in this eleciton.

"The country is issuing retribution and payback in spades..."

"The country" is not, the 30% that are hayseeds are throwing a fit after having captured one of the parties.

They took over the Republican party, but voters still vote.

The election is a toss-up. If only 30% of the people supported Trumpism, this wouldn't be close.

The fact it's close despite all of Trump's glaring faults, radical policy ideas, seeing rights stripped away for 3 years and a literal published blueprint for the dystopia of a second Trump term is 50% of the country willing to burn the country and democracy down.
