No need to feel sorry for any Republicans. They could have stood up to this crap long ago. They have done immeasurable damage to this country. Good riddance to all.

DON'T ever feel sorry for House Republicans. All of these people have been, for various reasons, happy to buy tickets on the Trump train.

They have quietly stood by as Trump slanders and defames everyone who disagrees with him, while Trump demolished the East Wing, while he shows utter contempt for the rule of law.

Need I go on?

We need to admit that our nation, society, culture politics, law, media, and education have all fallen into a morass of stupidity, nonaccountability, elimination of shame and empathy, and gangster capitalism enriching the very rich while stealing from the rest, along with a war on science, women, the middle class, all minorities, the rule of law, and decency. We have fallen off the cliff already but few wish to acknowledge this, waiting for some 9/11 or Pearl Harbor to forcefully announce it. Meanwhile, the termites of the MAGA minions and enablers have chewed away all every single support for what we had decades ago.

When someone invents a car that runs on milk and eggs, he or she will be worth more than Elon Musk, and Republicans will be encouraging us to drink petroleum products.

I’ve been in economic arguments with Trump supporters. Most of them actually believe the lies that inflation was worse than it actually was when Trump took over, that the stock market is performing better, that unemployment is down, etc. They act as if the economy Trump inherited was the 2022 economy. It wasn’t.

By literally every conceivable metric, Trump has made the economy worse: the GDP last year was worse than ANY year under Biden; job growth under Trump has been minimal, especially compared to the millions under Biden; inflation is higher than any time since 2023; unemployment has been higher under Trump than any time since the pandemic that Trump botched; even the average return of the stock market that Republicans crow about is lower under Trump than the market he inherited (avg growth 2023 and 2024 ~ 25% each year compared to ~17% in 2025). These numbers simply don’t lie. Republicans will still say that Trump has turned the economy around, and they’d be right. But what they won’t tell you is that he turned around in the wrong direction.

Eh, I'll disagree with that premise. They know that those things aren't true, but just like Dear Leader, they're going to double down on the falsehoods because they're too heavily invested in them to do otherwise.

If you are talking about the political class, I agree with you 100%. The average MAGA voter, however, is wildly ignorant. They simply believe what they are told by Trump and Fox News.

Michael's avatar

Absolutely. Their ignorance doesn’t absolve them of responsibility.

Katherine B Barz's avatar

However, the average MAGA have accepted these lies for years. They can’t turn around and say they were misled. The humiliation would be too painful. MAGA can live with the idea that they could be right, but never the fact that they were wrong.

a) I am glad that Joe is coming back just for the sake of predictable routines

b) there is no coherent defense of this war at this point since Trump is very unlikely to achieve any of his objectives that he started with

c) the admin was too clever by half not asking Congress to approve the war because these members of Congress would now be on the record with their talking points which they had used during floor debate and would have something semi-coherent to say even if they might be asked if they regret their vote now

The problem is that even their "good/improving economy" statements were lies. So you have lies about how good the economy was doing before the war and then the lies about the war and our winning it (any day now, just you wait).

Gee, Mike. The Iranians don't seem all that skirmmed (sp?) to this point. Got anything else?

Light Warder's avatar

Just like the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction...and the 2020 stolen election, the ICE-raids snatching brown-skin murderers&rapists, the Pence-friendly gibbet&noose, the C-shaped economy, the Epstein suicide, cheap diesel, and now the Iranian-enriched U235-tipped North Korean ICBMs pointed at Brussels, it's really tough to keep dreaming-up these alternative truths...right Mike?

Kurt Haupt's avatar

The definition of a skirmish: A skirmish is a small, brief fight or clash, usually involving a limited number of people or forces rather than a full-scale battle.

This is the equivalent of defining the tactics of Trump and MAGA as naughty.

Perverting the truth and the language does not alter the facts. The truth will prevail

What a great way to start the day...a little schadenfreude served warm with a Repub cherry on top.

The message they wanted before the Iran war, that their big ugly bill was causing an economic boom, was also just bullshit. So it's just more and more manure.

Watch out for Trump/Republican Party attempts to rig the elections. That's their ace in the hole.

Don’t feel sorry for them. They have the power to stop the President and choose not to do so. They are cowards.

Doug G's avatar

Summarizing folks, two key points from above …

1)

The giant price signs at every gas station in the country give the lie to Republican claims that prices are coming down and “GIVE NEW MEANING TO GASLIGHTING “

2)

“You can fool SOME of the people SOME of the time” but you won’t fool them forever

Gloria's avatar

All this bragging about the cost of milk and egg prices being lower is ridiculous! In the US people eat more than eggs and milk! Prices on everything else we eat has gone up, especially meat and fresh fruit and vegetables. RFK says we should eat more healthy food, those are the things that are so high priced
