My mother who passed away in 2016, suffered from Parkinson's Disease dementia. Right after Obama won his second term we were talking politics and during one of her lucid moments, she blurted out "the republican party is going to implode". I asked her what made her state that and she replied "because they're racist and there is no end to their chicanery". It is absurd political theater but is so detrimental to our country. Banning books but not assault rifles. I can't imagine the fear and horror parents of young children and teens feel when they send them to school hoping they won't be blown to smithereens by some wacko with an assault rifle. This insanity is courtesy of the republican party.

My mother passed away in 2016 too, at age 93. She was hanging on in order to see the first woman elected president; she adored Hillary Clinton. When Trump won, she literally lost her will to live and died a couple months later. Throughout his reign, almost daily I was glad she wasn’t witnessing our national degradation.

Both my parents died before Trump was elected and I am sometimes thankful they didn't live through Trump and then Covid. It's hard to believe what has happened in the country since Trump.
