The reason republicans play so poorly among women isn't just because of the godawful Dobbs decision and its effect on women's rights. It's because of the permission structure among republicans that allows flesh-crawling creeps like D'Souza to make repugnant jokes about the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband without consequence. It's same structure that allows equally flesh-crawling creeps like MGT to make ludicrous comparisons to immigration and the obscene attack by Russia on Ukraine.
The reason that Elon Musk's twitter is failing is precisely the same reason that Trump's MAGA party is failing - they've absolutely disgusted normal, decent people. They've also made normal, decent people worry about their safety: their personal safety and the safety of the country.
It's not just the Dobbs decision. So many of their policy decisions, especially as related to abortion, is about not seeing women as people with their own agency. Forcing doctors to read a script full of lies about the safety of abortion? Enforcing waiting periods, so women have to go home and think about it (like the woman hasn't ALREADY thought about it?!). Honestly there is so much misogyny in the Republicans, I don't understand how ANY woman votes for them.
There's also a streak of misogyny running through the GOP base. The men will claim that they revere women, but it's largely conditioned upon youth & beauty. Some big themes among right-wing men are: "our women are hotter than theirs," and "liberal women are mostly bitter hags."
Many years ago -- and this is now embarrassing to say -- I sometimes had Rush Limbaugh's show on while I was doing housekeeping or whatever, and his favorite "undeniable fact of life" was: "Feminism was invented to give unattractive women access to the mainstream." Which implies that the only legitimate way for a woman to be in the "mainstream" is on the basis of physical appearance.; therefore "unattractive" women should have no place in the mainstream, while "attractive" women have no reason to do anything beyond looking good to men (and having sex with them).
Maybe one can find similar attitudes toward women among men who aren't right-wing, but it seems to be only among right-wingers that such a shallow view of women is expressed as a basic doctrine of life.
BTW, I'm also not in favor of ridiculing men on the basis of physical attributes -- unless they're unduly arrogant and therefore deserve mockery. (DJT comes to mind.)
When he said that, he had the money & power to buy himself a good-looking younger wife.
His comment always had the subtext: "We men don't have to look good; there are all kinds of things we can DO to win respect, whereas women can't win respect by doing anything -- unless it's just a bonus on top of the respect they get by looking good." It's like a power trip that men play over women: "WE decide if you're worth anything, and there's nothing you can do about it if we say you're not."

Really well said.
There's no surprise that people who revere Donald Trump also tend to revere Elon Musk: they're both malignant narcissists.
It's like there's some sort of malignant Peter Pan syndrome going on among republican males. Hard to call them men when they act like such children.

D'Souza too. He's ugly.
as a 6'3" male - who weighs 215 lbs, I reserve the right to call Trump a fat loser.
That was always rich coming from Rush given that he wasn't exactly a prize package.
