I am 63 and no longer work. When I was 28 I left “corporate” life. Worried about my future I talked with my Dad (business owner) who told me, “Mare, you are going to spend a lot of your life working, you should find something you like doing.” Over 35 years, I did that in 4 different areas, (bartender, teaching golf professional, diner owner, house painter) saved as much as I could and feel like I have “lived” my life.
As a culture, I think we spend too much time on trying to validate ourselves by other people’s expectations.
The people in our lives matter more than we understand……
