Hey all, quick note: I wrote above that JVL's Triad from last night was unlocked for all readers; obviously (as you can tell if you clicked through) that was incorrect. Sorry about that; my mistake.

Yikes. I already shared. Can I make it a gift myself? And, if so, how?

I'm alarmed! It's foremost in my mind and when I'm not working, I'm checking the news and social media to see what Trump is going to do to us next.

You are exactly right in describing these events and his extreme proclamation. I also fear that too many people will remain willfully ignorant when it’s time to save the blinkin’ country. It’s time right now. Right now.

Has anyone wondered what Erol Musk was doing kissing up to Putin and company? Is he brokering a deal of asylum for Elon? If so, are there National Security secrets the DOGE goons are willing to share and bargain with? Just asking….

The No Kings rally heads advise that when a few protesters get violent, we who are peaceful should immediately sit down where we are so that officers can easily ID the rioters.

People in DC can peacefully protest by NOT attending Trump’s pathetic ego parade. Trump loves to present himself before huge, awed crowds of people. Wouldn’t it be great if his ego-marshaled parade of tanks rolled past near-empty stands and sidewalks?

Dear Beloved Grandparents,

We’ve lived through wars, recessions, civil rights marches, and moments that tested the soul of our nation. Today, we face another such moment — one that demands our wisdom, our courage, and our voices.

🚨 Our military is being used against American citizens on American soil.

Let that sink in. Peaceful protestors — everyday Americans — are being met with force, intimidation, and surveillance. These are not isolated incidents. This is by intentional design.

🔍 Reports confirm that Stephen Miller, top Trump advisor, has called for a recent increase in ICE raids, targeting communities with heavy minority populations. These actions are tearing apart families and leaving children behind in fear. “Collateral damage” is treated like an acceptable consequence.

And under Donald Trump’s leadership, the use of federal agents and military force against peaceful protests has blurred the line between public safety and authoritarian control.

🕊️ But we are not powerless. In fact, we are essential.

As grandparents, elders, and lifelong patriots — we must be the steady hands that guide our families through this storm. Our grandchildren are watching. Let us teach them what real love of country looks like.

Here’s how to stand tall:

✅ Contact your state and federal representatives — tell them we oppose military force against protestors and the inhumane ICE raids.

✅ Support independent media — they are documenting what others won’t.

✅ Talk to your grandchildren and neighbors — share the truth, especially with those misled by propaganda.

✅ Peacefully protest, write, speak out — even from our porches and living rooms.

🗣️ This is our moment for GOOD TROUBLE.

We marched for civil rights. We stood up for women’s rights. We spoke out during Vietnam. Now, we stand for democracy.

🇺🇸 Let us rise once more — not with fear, but with fierce love for our country and the people in it.

In Solidarity,

Clarissa Sr, an American Grandma

✍️ Please share this with fellow elders, caregivers, and families of conscience. Let our voices be heard while we still can.

Note that they keep referring to paid agitators (as always), but who benefits from paid agitators? Not the poor people being deported and probably NOT the "anarchists," but the people who were gunning for this fight, who have more than enough money to set this up. So sad.

The endless Trump cacophony! He is the undisputed genius at commandeering the news landscape, Democrats have to reinvent themselves and get ahead of Trump's game! Why not start a conspiracy theory (or twenty)? 1. Trump proposes to abolish the Office of The Vice President. 2. Trump proposes to expand the Supreme Court with three new conservative justices. 3. Congress will herewith report to the Executive. 4. The President will henceforth have veto power on the election of State governors. The list goes on and on. Democrats are so befuddled, so disillusioned and so far behind, its not funny.

Just a quick reminder.....some of the LE who were injured on Jan. 6th WERE Trump supporters. They HAD voted for him. Yes, they regret that now, but there are significant chunks of active duty and retired LE and Military who are Trump supporters.

I have a large number of veterans in my family and almost without exception they have been hard core MAGA.

Is that true of all vets? Of course not. Is it true of all LE? Of course not. But we don't do ourselves any favours by forgetting the "Constitutional Sheriffs" or that The Oathkeepers recruit from LE and military.

So sad and scary to realize that so many Americans refuse to see that Trump is a pathological liar. One would think they would see that some of his minor lies are ridiculous--e.g. that egg prices have gone down 400%--and that would make them more skeptical about his pronouncements on major questions.

If our liberal democratic system survives this, a few obvious lessons learned for the future--we have to codify in law virtually everything we expected norms & institutions (and decency) to do for us. We have to write everything down, essentially, as if we and our leaders are children.

Because they basically are--and perhaps "we" are, too.

It will be quite a lot to ask of the next President to lead an effort to voluntarily curtail his power . . . think about that. No modern President has chipped away at the "Imperial Presidency." None of the liberals and certainly none of the conservatives. That's going to be a big "ask."

But we basically need to tape bubble-wrap on all the nation's sharp edges . . . because the threat will be another toddler-in-chief.

We need someone to set up a legal defense fund for military personnel who refuse orders. How do we do that who do we contact?

I don't know if Marc Elias is specifically thinking of wading into these waters. But, you won't find any legal firm who has done more to combat Trump et al, and been more successful, than him. His non-profit org is called Democracy Docket.

My ever cynical mind suspects there are a few J 6'ers in the crowd. Grateful for their pardons , and very happy to stir the pot. As an excuse for Pete to deploy his troops. Which he will most certainly do if asked. So grateful the be SecDef. And knows he will never be fired as long as he aligns the military with Trump's authoritarian ambitions.

There are plenty of people who are alarmed enough about what Trump is doing in LA. However, they are not in power. Plus, the minority party is wandering around somewhere not knowing what to do. That's more alarming.

The people who voted for this felon did so because they really hate Democrats, they really hate Blacks, Asians, Hispanics and anyone who doesn't look or sound like them. I find it petualant that Homan is sending in his goons to Blue States, when it was Red States who voted for this felon.

I'm pretty sure that Red States have many more immigrants without papers than the Blue States.

I am reminded of a quote by Nikita Khrushchev telling Kennedy that we "would fall from within".

That was approximately 63 years ago!

And Lincoln said more or less the same thing a century before that.

I'm glad you focus on hate, because that is the central organizing principle of magatville. We see crocodile tears when on of "their" immigrants gets deported, but they're fine with disappearing all those others. They'll be fine with a slaughter of protestors in LA, maybe especially in LA.

I have found that it is hard for most people I know, here (in CA) and around the country, to grasp just how much people in the stupid states hate all things California. If Joe Biden is currently their favorite whipping boy, California has been the go-to blame target for decades. If the protest does end in violence, we won't see post-Kent-State soul searching, but dancing in the streets.

That we mostly paid for.

F@#$%&g republicans.

I am always skeptical and leery of what I see as a certain obsession on the Left w/ race & racism . . . especially when it it is described in very "determinist" terms . . . with that caveat out of the way (FWIW), I think you two are absolutely right--along with so many others--that **hate** is at the root of MAGAism. It's definitely not why *every* Trump voter voted the way they did . . . but it certainly animates MAGA's core.

It's decades in the making. Perhaps going back to the 60s. I thought we had put the ghosts of the 1960s to rest, but perhaps not.

"California" is the poster child the MAGAts hate yes, but they'll also target NYC, Boston, Chicago, etc. JVL wagered that we will not see large-scale immigration enforcement actions in red states. I didn't think of that . . . but I fear he's right. Wow.

Yes, from Day One of this experiment we call America, we have been warned both from within--from heroes like Lincoln--and from without--by adversaries like Khrushchev--that we'll be responsible for our own downfall.

How else could it be any other way?

(Christine's Khrushchev quote shows that the Soviet dictator realized privately that his public boasts about "burying" us were nonsense . . . we were going to bury ourselves)
