In my neighborhood and surrounding area in SC, so far, the only yard & street signs I've seen are for Haley. Not suggesting she'll 'shock the world' but there are people who have been signaling for a while they'll back her. I'm pulling the lever for her in the primary *strictly* as an Eff-you to trump. It'll be Biden in the general.

I applaud your efforts to throw a spoke in the Orange Menace's wheel. Far better than sitting on your hands bewailing your fate.

Still, be aware Nikki Haley is weak in her convictions and will endorse Trump for President within a month.

She was my governor for six years and wasn’t horrible—well above average for a Republican governor of a Southern state. She’s one of two Republicans to not “bend the knee” yet remain in the tent—hard to find Mitch McConnell admirable but these are strange times.

Will she bend the knee when she drops out? I expect so. But it wouldn’t shock me if she didn’t.

Will I vote for her in the general if she somehow prevails over Trump? Not a chance. Unlike the editors of this fine publication, I washed my hands of the Republican Party at the state and federal level in 1992 after Pat Buchanan’s convention speech. I saw what the party had become well before most center-right thinkers.

I think you may be giving her too much credit. The two Republican candidates who refused to “bend the knee” were Asa Hutchinson and Chris Christie. Haley had no problem raising her hand when asked if she would endorse the Republican nominee even if he was a convicted felon. She never attacked Trump during any of the debates and her only criticism of him afterwards was that <somehow> “chaos followed him wherever he went”.

But as soon as Trump got personal and started calling her names and picking on her husband, all of a sudden she found some courage to fight back. Also, I think she’s given up on any ambition she may once have had of being tapped for VP so really this is just theater for her 2028 bid - if we still have a country by that point.
