On the "weird" discourse, GWB was prescient at Trump’s Inautguration. "That was some really weird shit."

True dat. But I remain disappointed that he has not been reminding us of it since then. Maybe he subscribes to the theory that thou shalt not speak ill of the GOP. Perhaps he feels irrelevant in this new era and to the current political process. Still, past Presidents have an outsized voice with the media and traditional supporters. It's okay to dust off that megaphone strategically if that really weird shit threatens to come back with a vengeance.

Can he really believe that a GOP still exists? After that Coronation billed as a Convention?

Amen, Purple. And I hope the Harris campaign can arrange for George to do a redux video in the next couple weeks, to use as part of their ad campaign.

My wife completely agrees with you. It isn’t strong enough. Also like you she has an affinity for weirdos. We love this article and we hope they pay attention and pivot from weirdos to something that more accurately depicts the dangerous lying pariahs that they are!

In this case I think weird has a specific connotation - internet culture engages in a running inside joke with itself that doesn’t work in the real world. And people get weird vibes when you start to lose the joke and you become that person in real life. Elon Musk has that vibe, like JD Vance. I don’t think it means weird as in alternative and not mainstream, like David Bowie is weird, but in a cool way. If that makes sense..?

Deep insight, Kim, and so well put: "...internet culture engages in a running inside joke with itself that doesn’t work in the real world. And people get weird vibes when you start to lose the joke and you become that person in real life."

“Weird” is too boomer. It needs to be updated, I was thinking “cringe”, but it appears that even “cringe” is past its prime. Whatever the word should be needs to signify that the person/thought/idea makes you want to take a shower to get clean.

Maybe they could try ‘sus’? That’s my young teenager’s favorite adjective for sketchy stuff.
