Did anyone, anywhere ever expect these four words strung together: "cool sportswear: bowling shirts"?

To complete today's themes, I would like to see an AI of Marco Rubio wearing one.

I remember when Sen. Tom Eagleton was hounded off the Democratic ticket as vice president in 1972 due to the revelation of his history of depression. He was named by George McGovern, and resigned from the ticket in less than two weeks. Eagleton had undergone electroshock therapy years earlier. Both the treatment he had endured and the stigma of his disease were barbaric by contemporary standards.

A half-century has passed. We like to think we are more enlightened and tolerant of mental health & illness. Perhaps not.

Thus it is an open question whether Rep. Tom Kean's political career has been effectively ended. He has clearly forgotten the main lesson of the Watergate era: "It's not the diagnosis but the coverup."

I think Kean's time in Congress is running out. He won by just over 5 points in 2024. R+5 is not a safe seat for any Republican in 2026, much less one who disappeared for 3 months.

let's hope! he is my nepo baby congressman. There is a very competent D running in the district. We got more reddish purple the last time they re-drew the maps. Hopefully enough people are turned off by his absence to vote for Rebecca Bennett. BUT my favorite story on this came via this morning's Daily Beast - MAGA Rep. Lauren Boebert Flames Fellow Republican for Going MIA. LAUREN BOBERT!!!

Victor Mellor is grifting and running the con. He fits in well with MAGAs.

Just Dumb Vance and the Orange shit pile accuse the democrats of being communists...as always, the magats project and confess

How has Kean voted on paid leave (like FMLA but with some income replacement), healhcare, Medicaid expansion, and other laws that would enable more Americans with depression to consider a month of inpatient treatment? Or does he only want this for himself?

Enjoy your time off Joe. I will miss you.

I would never be mean to Andrew...lol

My grandmother had a quilt that was made from all her bowling shirts, which I got after she died. It so reminds me of her....She was an awesome bowler. Even used a 16lb ball when women just didn't do that...lol..she traveled to tournaments all over the state ( OH).

Golblarmit, when is this conflation of DSA with socialism and communism going to stop?? They are miles apart, and I’m getting tired of the intellectual laziness of conservatives and moderates by continuing to be willfully ignorant about it. Communism especially is very different from democratic socialism, as communism is an authoritarian system (that I despise, incidentally). I’m not at all surprised that it was a MAGA Republican who is in the employ of communists. Makes total sense. Please, I urge everyone who writes or speaks about these terms to educate themselves about what they actually mean.

Good point, Denmark has democratic socialism while Russia has tried to cure a communist hangover with Putin's big doses of authoritarianism "the morning after". Denmark became a good place to live, poverty fixed, allowing choices that Russia does not allow. The US thus had it last run of Danish immigrants many decades ago. With life better there, they quit trying to immigrate to the US.

Geting your lackeys to take the fall for your corrupt deals is how authoritarianism works. Don't hate the player hate the game.

Happy 4th Comrades! I see a bright red future ahead! 🇺🇸❤️❤️🛠️

To steal a Monty Python line: “Brezhnev and Kosygin are in the kitchen right now, eating my wife’s jam. They’re peaking down her blouse. Why doesn’t Mr Maudling do something?”

"You might have noticed bowling shirts being worn by more and more men these days." Cannot say that I have, but now I'm afraid that I will!

interesting about Mellor and Cuba, from Perticone,: "Typically, a single meeting does not warrant registration as a foreign agent. Registration usually comes after the agent has entered into a fleshed-out agreement to influence U.S. public policy or opinion ...

"Curiously, in the filing in which Mellor claims he working as an agent of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the field where he would list the “name and title of official(s) with whom registrant engages” is marked simply “Unknown.”

I always thought bowling shirts were worn ironically. Except for when they had a resurgence on “Two and a half men”. I personally have a bangin’ collection of Hawaiian shirts that I wear all the time. Due in part to being required to wear a boring uniform at work.

QAnon and communism are the perfect gateways to magaism.
