But Katy bar the door, "loose" ain't gonna' cut it for the long term or, more importantly, for the short term either. It is indeed, as you said, time "to all band together to recognize and extinguish the threat the Republican Party has become." So, some serious tightening-up is definitely needed.
Since such a large chunk of this coalition is the Democratic Party, and they are, as Charlie pretty much writes today, and my comment below notes, failingly miserably at the moment on this issue, they need a wake-up call. A really loud one. And the sooner - and louder - the better.
How to do that?
Like my comment from a little earlier, I've spoken of this here before and, as said comment notes, will likely do so again at some point. The "how to" will be different for each individual that chooses to actually do something besides, well, bitch. But bitching ain't gonna' cut it either, so I hope the majority of those reading today will take some time to think about this, and then choose to act in some way, each according to their own talents and resources.
For myself, that means throwing a few rocks, metaphorically speaking. And those mineral missiles will be sent to my U.S. Rep., and both my U.S. Senators. Who, coincidentally, all happen to be Democrats. There are a couple of Republican Reps. in my state who have demonstrated that they walk the same planet as most of the rest of us, so they will be hearing from me as well. Again. The rest I won't waste my time on.
They all have a few stones lying about their offices by now, courtesy of yours truly. And they're all going to get more chucked their way as I find the opportunities to do so.
As to what I write to them, my earlier comment is pretty much my template. In fact, as soon as I finish this I think I'll save a little wear and tear on the fingertips and just copy that comment and give it a throw, though out of respect ( and pragmatism ) for the Republican gents I mentioned, I will probably modify it a bit. I want to get their attention, not draw blood.
Will this in and of itself make a difference? No. But if a few more rock throwers joined in, perhaps the darned things would start to pile up a bit. Get a little heavy maybe. Draw at least a second glance. Maybe even someone stubs their toe on one.
It ain't much. But it's not nothing. And it is something I can do.
Thanks, Leslie, for your clarity. And for summing up so clearly what I took so many words to try to say.
Nail. Hammer. Head.
