"The attempt to limit abortions through the law is a failure."
Agreed, but I wish we could reframe the conversation and call it "reproductive care". The limits the GOP wants to put on women's bodies encompasses so much more than decision-making related to an unwanted pregnancy, which is what most people think of when hearing the word "abortion".
Putting on my proofreading hat: "All of this puts Kevin in a vice". While Kevin may have some vices such as greed, the word Charlie is looking for is probably 'vise'.
Really? What about NY? And how will they keep Joe Biden off the ballot? New Hampshire has done it, a Republican governor. And there are lots of Republicans who'd use this I think, to rid themselves of the guy.
For Trump, there's every bit as much PROOF Biden is a crook as there is that Biden stole the 2020 election. Shame for Trump so few judges share his taste for alternative evidence.
Re Republican calls for reducing government spending, other than slash and burn, do they have any plan? To be serious for a second, how badly would US national security be affected if the Navy had only 8 aircraft carriers rather than 11? Yes, that'd piss off a lot of O-5s wanting to become captains and O-6s wanting to become admirals.
Odds are California, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Maryland would be the states which would keep Trump off the ballot, and Wyoming, Oklahoma, the Dakotas and West Virginia would reciprocate by making it hard to find Biden on their ballots.
It'd only matter if Pennsylvania or Michigan tried to do this. All the other swing states have either Republican governors to veto such bills, or Republican majorities in one or both chambers of their state legislatures to kill such bills.
It is true that Christianity is almost meaningless in America. Parenting and being good citizens and striving to be exceptional in your chosen work are anachronistic in much of our society as well, but I am not society.
The new merch is pretty good but I would love a T shirt with “Never Trump from the Jump” and The Bulwark logo on the front, with the “Told You So” and mugshot on the back. I would buy several so I could wear them all the time. Please make this dream come true for me!
I love David Frum but, in this case, he is overthinking the situation and is too worried about the downside of following the Constitution. The MAGA folks will be unhappy whatever the outcome unless it results in putting a crown on their leader's head. In the long run, we're better off if we follow the law and stand up for the Constitution.
What would happen if (1) Trump wins in 2024, (2) 30-odd states decide to ignore the 22nd Amendment in 2028, (3) Trump gets at least 270 electoral votes in 2028, and (4) a Republican majority in Congress accepts that 2028 electoral vote count?
THAT CAN'T HAPPEN doesn't seem particularly convincing to me.
Going further: SCOTUS rules that 2028 electoral votes for Trump must be thrown out, but then no one gets 270 electoral votes, and the House of Representatives, voting BY STATE, elects Trump 26 to 24?

A great man from Maine. I hope he's happy. If he's still here.

It's up to states to keep him off their ballots. If 3 or 4 keep him off, he can't win. Isn't that how it works?

Kevin is the most anatomically challenged Speaker ever--no balls, no brains, no spine
Let's hope he can't reproduce by mitosis.
Charlie et al,

Never practiced criminal law, but my recollection is that the Federal system disfavors interlocutory appeals, although many states are open to them.
Good heavens! As for Trump “loving the people”, a line from The Lion In Winter comes to mind: “Like a glutton loves his lunch”.
Oh Charlie -- You slay me!
Trump is never, ever defeated. At least not in a way he and his armed minions will accept. What's the real solution?
Re Joe Kent: Trumpists, even the dumb ones, have mastered one talent: the non sequitur.
Trump post had no misspelled words and a restraint shown for ALL CAPS. You know he didn’t write this one.
