Eliezer Yudkowsky is an old ding bat, and I hate that he gets taken seriously. He has literally done nothing for years except write about when and how AGI will kill us and has been wrong, particularly about the “when” part, every single time. No one even knows what AGI will be like. For all we know, it could develop and a be a really nice guy. He’s just using peoples sci fi fantasy/fears to make money.

Recently re-watched All the President's Men. Thought it would be depressing in the sense that we seem to be experiencing at least one Watergate event perpetrated by DJT and Co. every day these days...but it's not, it's a great, great movie (on an aesthetic and moral level) that reminds me what can happen when a few people hunt tenaciously for the truth, then make sure it gets out there. (But the depression returns when I wonder - do Americans still have the capacity to care about the truth?)

I think they do somewhat care about truth, but many believe lies as their "truth." It's a rather small minority who know their MAGA world is based on lies and are okay with that.
