Sonny, thanks for sending out this article about Fox. I keep looking for inside data to track their moves. I consider Murdock and his family genuine rogues and an organization dangerous to the First Amendment. Keep posting on them as a public service. Somebody has got to do it, and you are well positioned to do it. Thanks again! Jerry
I cut the cord several years ago, but had to keep subscribing to something every fall just to watch football. I churned through Hulu with live TV, Direct TV, Fubo, Sling - pretty much all of them! They offer a great 3 month deal for new subscribers, and that's about all I needed. Then ESPN came out last year and it was perfect. I just upgrade the Disney+/Hulu bundle that I already have for those 3 months. I briefly subscribed to Fox One because Fox is the one network that my anntenna won't pick up. But there's nothing else at all that I want to watch on Fox except for the NFL.
ROKU collects TV viewing data, including search data. A lot of reasons why
FOX NEWS----> MAGA/GOP would want this.
By the way, if you use a streaming platform to get to streaming services like DirecTV, Sling, etc, and you want MSNOW and CNN, you are paying ~$2 a month in "carriage feees" aka "affiliate fees" directly to Fox News. This is why Fox News doesn't care if you boycott their sponsors.
Yeah, the extent of the data that will be collected is a really interesting question and leads me to wonder if some services won’t pull their offerings off of Roku.
I'll be tossing my Roku stick into the trash can. I've always hated the Roku menu UI remote. Screw anything thats owned by Fox or wont let me turn on the TV to the channel I was last watching.
Agree that Tubi is a source for movies nobody wants to watch: if you are looking to prepare for the bi-weekly How Did This Get Made podcast, Tubi is a good place to start.
I use a ROKU Ultra as my streamer on my main TV, accessing YouTubeTV as my cable replacement, with the usual suspects for supplemental streaming services. I’ve been happy with it, but I’ll be damned if I’ll put a penny into the Fox coffers. I’m shopping for a replacement.
I'd read a similar review about Toy Story 5: basically that it's a great movie but the intent is to appeal more to the adults that grew up with the franchise as opposed to the children that they're bringing with them to the theaters.
Rather than switching to Apple TV, might I offer a suggestion from the opposite end of the spectrum? Buy a cheap Google TV streaming device (like the Onn from Walmart), and then download the free app, Projectivy launcher.
If all you're really looking for is a homepage on your TV from which to access your streaming services, this gives you a very clean and user-customizable user interface.
Your reviews always make me feel like I wanna go to the theater! But I can’t anymore. I’m pretty seriously hearing impaired at this point and don’t get me started on those little captioning machines. They never work! Someone should make an app. I’ve been to three theaters and those gadgets have never worked! So now I’m resigned to having to wait for streaming even though this summer for sure there were a bunch I wanted to see in the theater. An app that would stream the dialog to your phone would be great. You could either listen via Bluetooth if your hearing permits, or watch the captioning.
I’ve never seen that offered in my area but I will check with the theaters here. I’m in the Deep South and not a big city so we don’t always get the most cosmopolitan atmosphere. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Yay !! I am so glad to be able to help. Yes we find them useful. First went to an open caption showing without realizing and that's how I found out about that.
Just checked and the AMCs nearby reportedly do open caption screening! I’m so grateful to you for telling me about them. I had no idea. Usually I would just ask for the gadget and it wouldn’t work. You would think maybe that one of the employees to whom I return the nonfunctioning device might have said maybe you would like to come to one of our open caption screenings. And oh by the way, here’s a coupon since you didn’t get to enjoy this movie.
We've moved to the Shield Pro in place of Roku. Works well. We still have our Roku devices because they don't cost us anything and they are easy to take on trips. Won't be subscribing to Fox 1or anything though.
Thank you. I was considering buying Roku but will likely not do so now. I really appreciate you

Yeah we subscribed to Fox One during football season because of football (college and pro). Dropped it the minute the playoffs started.

Wait, what about "open caption"? Those showings with subtitles on the screen?
I’ve never seen that offered in my area but I will check with the theaters here. I’m in the Deep South and not a big city so we don’t always get the most cosmopolitan atmosphere. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Pretty sure that Roku was developed by Netflix to start their streaming.

Love the Roku device and UI, but not enough to stomach this merger.
I swear by Apple TV. I literally have one for each room.
Maybe, but I really don't want to give Tim Cook & Co. any more of my money.
