The corruption is so blatant it’s astounding. The Democrats need to hit on this corruption daily. Trump and his cronies are using the Presidency to line their pockets with billions of dollars while the average American is struggling with living costs. Bring it up every single day in every forum.

Unfortunately, unless FOX News brings up the corruption a significant portion of the population will never understand how bad the corruption really is. Somehow I don’t see FOX explaining how and why the corruption is bad for the economy.

My gym had Fox News on yesterday morning. The volume was muted (thankfully), but I could tell from the upbeat hosts and the cut to the "reporter" at the Great American State Fair and Grifters' Paradise that he was raving about how exciting and amazing the fair is ... even while the video showed it empty. (Hey, it was a Sunday morning! The crowds would be arriving any minute!)
All this to say, even when the pictures on Fox show one thing, the commentary says another. And who are you going to believe, them or your lying eyes?
Fox did not report the almost $1b payout for lying to their audience on the day it was revealed. Why would they change? When Fox did try to move away from being pro Trump all the time, their audience stopped watching. The audience controls Fox’s content, not the other way around. Need to concentrate on those willing to listen and forget about the brain dead MAGAS.
I say the same thing about 30-35% of electorate who will always vote R regardless. Forget them. It is independants and other sub groups that are abandoning Trump. That is why you never see blowouts in Presidential elections
I can confirm that it rarely does. I watch and read Fox because people in my circle are Trump supporters and live on Fox and I need to know what they are seeing and hearing.
I admire the fortitude it must take to do that. Mine is reduced to periodically scanning the Dem pitches to raise money to confirm that the continued assertions I feel obliged to make that the overwhelming emotions they play on continue to be fear, embarrassment, distortion, brrow-beating and nastiness. What is almost lost, therefore, is anything dealing with America's hopes, purposes, anything beneficent to ordinary people, their hopes, aspirations, and well-being. Correspondingly, my worries for the democratic Republic the founders sought to bring us abound; I feel despair, but so far I keep coming up to bat!

I think that's the pushback in general and I have to agree with Petey B. He noted in the Biden adminstartion he was "radicalized" because he saw how hard it was to get anything done. I don't think the Dems can fully comprehend that we passed the Rubicon. We won't go BACK to the Before Trump Times (BTT) or at least not in our lifetime.
I think the issue is a lot of corporate America and especially media/entertainment don't want major changes. They are still making money hand over fist. Even with Trump and the chaos. So there is minimal interest from those groups in helping to fund or campaign on a platform to change this up.
If there is any hope of rebalance, it cannot be by going backwards. I don't want to go back. Because if we go back, then it just means a repeat of ending with Trumpism. I want something new moving forward to try to prevent a MAGA minority takeover from happening again. And that is likely illiberalism.
If Dems aren't ready and willing to court pack SCOTUS, ExecOrder everything, as well as go against individuals, states, and corporations.......this doesn't change. The biggest mistake America made was ending Reconstruction. They treated the CSA as defeated brothers and pulled them back in. We had a large portion of the voting populace, SC judges, and politicians endorse limiting representation of minorities. They CHEERED the decision.
So yeah, I don't care about tears if a Dem Prez comes in and starts stripping away representation from racists and sexists in the deep red south. What I would like is that the ballroom and arch finished on the last day of Trump’s rule and as the Democratic president is giving the inauguration speech, the bulldozers start tearing them down, the government repos the Qatari jet, announce special prosecutors for corruption and against all 6 Republican justices and say isn’t presidential immunity a wonderful thing.
I am there on the first half of this comment and still struggling with the second half--the solutions. I respect that different states have different cultures and I don't want to lose that element of our republic.
I do agree that allowing states to be unique is certainly a positive. Where I struggle is some of these states where they are....shall we say the less dominant culture? Your flyover states. Nothing against them. I am fine if Montana wants to hunt and have guns. There are areas where schools need guns cuz of wolves. That makes sense. If some of the Southern states want tighter liquor laws? Fine. You can choose to not sell on Sunday.
But where I see problems is that many of these small states are resentful towards the rich elites. Big cities pull in more money, create more content, and drive more of the culture. The nation as a whole rarely ever mentions some of those states. So MAGA loves to hate on NYC or California (has MAGA ever counted how many republicans live in Cali? It's a lot) because THEY feel left out. The big sports teams, the movies, the tv, all of it. Not really geared towards them.
And now that resentment is being channeled into grievance politics. To the point that we have a small minority of thinkers able to utilize the imbalance between big and small states to the benefit of only one side. That is untenabale. Dems aren't going to force the GOP to get rid of their guns. They can't. Too many guns already in this country. Dems won't force people to transition. Dems won't force people to have gay sex. Dems won't force people to have an abortion, but they will allow you because it is YOUR decision, not the government's. Dems won't bring in asked and armed men kicking down doors and taking normal US republican citizens into alligator alcatraz.
Yet many states and their GOP politicians insist they will do it. That their nature of existence is threatened by the allowance of these things in other states. That is where I break and no longer care about a state's rights anymore, and by extension its citizens. You want to be a little more conservative or a little more liberal a little more weird, or a little more straight laced. Fine.
But dozens of states aren't that way. They are pissed they are losers and want to punish and extract pain on blue states. Bama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky. A bunch of poorly educated states with little to no economic opportunity when compred to others. The Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas. You can wrap the population of those six states and get HALF of the metro NYC area. If I was governor of Illionis every single Texas Guardsmen that entered the state would've been met with a choice: turn back to Texas, turn over yourself for arrest, or prepared to be shot and killed. You want to be a little different, fine. But when you want to start imposing minority rule on the more populous states that are the main driver of all of America's propserity? That's when I say no.
I have no problem with my CA tax dollars going to SNAP & Medicaid, for any citizen, in any state, that needs the safety net, or poorer red states being the beneficiaries of Fed programs like CHIPS Act, BUT ONLY with a President, Cabinet & SCOTUS that respect the Constitution and rule of law.

If we want a true democracy/republic, how about we embrace the fact that such ideals are built on a foundation of inclusivity. Not blind assent, not total agreement, but simply allowing people with different views, goals, priorities to coexist. So that those groups can concentrate their energies on defeating the real enemy: Illiberalism, oligarchy, authoritarianism, theocracies.
We're in the midst of an authoritarian transition in this country. Fighting against our allies, even if we don't agree with everything they say, is contradictory and ill judged. DSA candidates have some of the best momentum and outreach out there: Bringing in youth and swing voters and undecideds who we are far more likely to be able to reach than the deeply intrenched and indoctrinated MAGA base.
The Democratic Party on a whole has FAR less reserve funding than the GOP. It has FAR less stable donations. It struggles with a coherent message. The Democratic Party also has no voice. No Leader. Hate Trump all you want, he made it clear who ran the GOP.
I am independent and refuse to register to a party. I despise Trump. Most of my life I grew up to hate communism/socialism and to applaud hard work and intelligence. Then as I grew I started to reflect. Is what we have really capitalism? Really democracy? We may call it that, but a lot of what makes up the system is NOT that. And it has certainly twisted into something we can say a large portion of the country are not best served by the current administration and state of affairs.
I won't say I will never vote for a DSA candidate. Probably not. But depends on my options. But I will say I am more open now to listening than ever before. And even IF they gained more traction, I doubt they could make everything that they want happen. And it would turn into an odd mix of political idealogies. Same as ours has warped from what we'd define it as.

I think the question is not "how do we fix it?" but "what do we fix it into?" Because fixing OUR democracy will just rinse and repeat. So what do we fix our democracy into. At least DSA has an idea. You might want to read the GOP platform from 1956. It's quite interesting. Democratic Socialists could have cut and paste most of their more serious policies directly from it...including national health care.

I heard Bernie & AOC speak to an overflow arena crowd in one of the most reliably red counties in CA during the shutdown, and the moment was electric! Bernie and AOC went on to endorse Randy Villegas in the CA 22 Dem primary, and he kicked the Dem Inc candidate’s butt. Randy’s an educator and very compelling guy- his backstory not unlike our own Sen Padilla’s- both men are the personification of what’s possible in an America that truly stands, and votes, for liberty and justice for ALL.

Palestinians deserve their own state and representation.
I'm not a fan of the DSA, but I'm in favor of doing whatever it takes to win. DSA candidates are obviously popular in NYC so I think moderate democrats should shut up and let voters in those areas elect who they want. DSA candidates won't fly in many places where moderates will do well, and that's fine too. DSA should shut up about moderates who can win in more conservative areas. I'm sure we'll get a DSA candidate in the 28 primary and candidates can fight it out for what ideology we want. Leaders of the inept Democratic party would be wise to adopt some general DSA talking points like no more aid to Israel until they stop the genocide in Gaza and whatever they're doing in Lebanon, stop sucking up to corporate donors, things like that.

It would be easy to say we ‘all know’ only 1 out of 7 eligible NY Voters voted for the 3 Democratic Socialists (and barely 2/3rds of all New Yorkers (where I was born and raised!) are even registered to vote. However, seeing how 75 million Americans voted for Trump (!) I’m not at all hopeful the DSA agenda is the way to ‘win’.
And by ‘win’ – I don’t mean winning Control of the House & Senate by a few seats. That will obviously help – but not long-term against a GOP that has spent over 35 years plotting against all of us. First by taking over the Federal courts (including the most partisan SCOTUS in our history) and then giving us the shaft with the most un-American President in our history.
No - just winning control off the House and Senate will do little to address the many long-term problems facing the nation. If we DEMs cannot attain super majorities in both the House & Senate – the hell Trump has brought to America will take decades – if ever – to end.
AOC had a great interview with Jen Psaki- it’s not long- she talks about the importance of giving these women, including Chevalier- a chance, and shares her own experience being shunned and derided by many in the Dem caucus during her first term.
I think a lot of what Chevalier has said is really gross but one person is not going to tank the presidency and will have no effect this year. Nobody even knows who she is except political weirdos like us. Republicans have tried forever to tie reasonable candidates to controversial lefties and it's never worked. I don't see how it will start working now especially when so many people are so pissed off at what Republicans are doing. I guess we'll see.

As soon as Randy Villegas won the CA 22 Dem primary, the DCCC immediately added him to their “Red to Blue” initiative, came out in full support, even tho their less progressive candidate lost to him in the primary.
I cannot condemn an entire political movement for the actions of one of their members, or the lack of condemnation from their fellows. In a pluralist form of democracy, we are supposed to save that kind of condemnation for actions that are actually illegal, harmful, criminal. Not for disagreement on policy.
I know a lot of Never Trumpers and Dems want to cleave to an idea that we need to do what the GOP did: Throw ourselves behind whatever sways the most populist attention, rallies the base and panders to as many pliable minds as possible.
I hope that *doesn't* happen. Even if we were to do so with more moral/ethical goals and slogans, it still leans in to singularity of thought, policy, etc. I cannot think of something that ultimately harms a pluralistic, liberal democracy more.
I want the Dems to unify in their message for core values: Affordability, Anti-corruption, reform of broken systems, ethical treatment of immigrants, etc. But I don't think that means they should adopt a total homogenous line on every topic under the sun. Our nation is large, full of a diversity of people: Our political parties should be able to work within that truth, rather than trying to cut it down.
Democracy is by its very nature messy and inefficient. A republic suffers much the same. But if our instinctive reaction to that is to unify in a way that cuts away differences of thought, philosophy, policies, etc... we end up losing what can make a functioning democracy so powerful.
I think our message can be as simple as this:
"We need to take back power *for* the people. So they can afford to live in this country. So their interests aren't being bartered away to the highest bidder. So they can have access to the basic necessities of life.
We do that by listening to the *people* who are voting members into power. And those messages are going to be a little different depending on what the demographic is, the reality of that county/state issues are. Maybe even very different when it comes to specific interests and policies. That is OK so long as, ultimately, it's the well being of the people and the kind of government that will actually serve them best, is what guides us."
In our zeal to unify, I, personally, don't want to see us become a polarity of our MAGA counterparts, ostracizing, silencing and fearmongering against anyone who says or advocates something we don't agree with/think will work.
If that's the only way to save us, I'm not sure we deserve to be saved.

I totally agree. The ads need to start NOW and run every day as often as possible until the midterms. The ads also need to include that interview of Mike Johnson talking about doing away with "entitlement programs, such as Social Security." There are a LOT of seniors out there, both Democratic AND Republican, who do NOT want to lose those benefits we've PAID INTO WITH OUR OWN MONEY, so yes, we are "entitled" to get OUR MONEY back.

In general, I'm against denaturalization, even for bad people. But Elon came to the U.S. on a student visa to go to grad school and decided to start a business instead. I'm not a lawyer, but there may be an actual basis for his denaturalization in particular.

One of the most dangerous things about this moment is how we've become desensitized to this sort of empty threat. I suppose there's a non-zero chance Trump would follow through on this threat, but he's been making this threat since the spring.
On the other hand, Hegseth's been cleaning house in the Pentagon, and since Hegseth is all about lethality over legality, maybe Trump is biding his time until there's enough obsequious flag level officers in place before he turns Iran to ash.
But Trump (or “US sources”) always jumps in on Sunday, before the Asian markets open, with some soothing statement to keep the oil and equity markets from spiraling up/down.
So glad to see the Atlantic article written about here. My best friend is retired from a 40-year career with NPS. Can't count the number of calls he's gotten since T took office from people still employed. It's heartbreaking and enraging. Republicans have wanted to privatize the parks for ages. What makes me sick to my stomach is that once they're gone, they're gone forever.
And by letting the parks fall apart by not funding them, Trump can blame their state of disrepair on government incompetence and make the case for private ownership.

When he slithered down that escalator and started gaining traction in 2016, I read Art of the Deal. My main takeaway was exactly that he hadn't changed a bit.

Unlike Trump, Iran is not desperate to end the war. They have succeeded in linking Israel's actions in Lebanon and elsewhere to any peace agreement. Iran will respond to Israeli attacks not merely by striking back against Israel. They will attack the world-wide economy. The only thing Trump can do about it is to put pressure on Israel.
As bad as relations are right now between the US and Israel, they are about to get much, much worse.
They can fight the war on the cheap while we piss away our nation's treasure and weapons. With Russian and Chinese support, I believe they can economically outlast the US in this war.
I know Trump wants so badly to defeat Iran and spike the football for the 250th. But it's not meant to be. Instead, we will be celebrating America's humiliation and schooling at the hands of a foe with a much inferior military. Sure, he'll say we won a huge victory in Iran, and some of the voters will actually believe it, but most of us will know that we mark our big anniversary with a globally disastrous defeat in a war of choice in mere months of conflict. Whether it's the Putin or Orban or Bolsonaro or the Trump administration, the real motivating factor for these uber patriots is not nationalism. It's greed, and corruption is their signature administrative policy. Yes, all Dems should take their talking points from Jon Ossoff. It's the corruption that is Trump's motivator. My gym had Fox News on yesterday morning. The volume was muted (thankfully), but I could tell from the upbeat hosts and the cut to the "reporter" at the Great American State Fair and Grifters' Paradise that he was raving about how exciting and amazing the fair is ... even while the video showed it empty. (Hey, it was a Sunday morning! The crowds would be arriving any minute!)
All this to say, even when the pictures on Fox show one thing, the commentary says another. And who are you going to believe, them or your lying eyes?

Fox did not report the almost $1b payout for lying to their audience on the day it was revealed. Why would they change? When Fox did try to move away from being pro Trump all the time, their audience stopped watching. The audience controls Fox’s content, not the other way around. I admire the fortitude it must take to do that. Mine is reduced to periodically scanning the Dem pitches to raise money to confirm that the continued assertions I feel obliged to make that the overwhelming emotions they play on continue to be fear, embarrassment, distortion, brrow-beating and nastiness. I think that's the pushback in general and I have to agree with Petey B. He noted in the Biden adminstartion he was "radicalized" because he saw how hard it was to get anything done. I think the issue is a lot of corporate America and especially media/entertainment don't want major changes. They are still making money hand over fist. Even with Trump and the chaos. So there is minimal interest from those groups in helping to fund or campaign on a platform to change this up.

What I would like is that the ballroom and arch finished on the last day of Trump’s rule and as the Democratic president is giving the inauguration speech, the bulldozers start tearing them down, the government repos the Qatari jet, announce special prosecutors for corruption and against all 6 Republican justices and say isn’t presidential immunity a wonderful thing.
I am there on the first half of this comment and still struggling with the second half--the solutions. I respect that different states have different cultures and I don't want to lose that element of our republic.
I do agree that allowing states to be unique is certainly a positive. Where I struggle is some of these states where they are....shall we say the less dominant culture? Your flyover states. Nothing against them. I am fine if Montana wants to hunt and have guns. There are areas where schools need guns cuz of wolves. That makes sense. If some of the Southern states want tighter liquor laws? Fine. You can choose to not sell on Sunday.
But where I see problems is that many of these small states are resentful towards the rich elites. Big cities pull in more money, create more content, and drive more of the culture. The nation as a whole rarely ever mentions some of those states. So MAGA loves to hate on NYC or California (has MAGA ever counted how many republicans live in Cali? It's a lot) because THEY feel left out. The big sports teams, the movies, the tv, all of it. Not really geared towards them.
And now that resentment is being channeled into grievance politics. To the point that we have a small minority of thinkers able to utilize the imbalance between big and small states to the benefit of only one side. That is untenabale. Dems aren't going to force the GOP to get rid of their guns. They can't. Too many guns already in this country. Dems won't force people to transition. Dems won't force people to have gay sex. Dems won't force people to have an abortion, but they will allow you because it is YOUR decision, not the government's. Dems won't bring in asked and armed men kicking down doors and taking normal US republican citizens into alligator alcatraz.
Yet many states and their GOP politicians insist they will do it. That their nature of existence is threatened by the allowance of these things in other states. That is where I break and no longer care about a state's rights anymore, and by extension its citizens. You want to be a little more conservative or a little more liberal a little more weird, or a little more straight laced. Fine.
But dozens of states aren't that way. They are pissed they are losers and want to punish and extract pain on blue states. Bama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky. A bunch of poorly educated states with little to no economic opportunity when compred to others. The Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas. You can wrap the population of those six states and get HALF of the metro NYC area. If I was governor of Illionis every single Texas Guardsmen that entered the state would've been met with a choice: turn back to Texas, turn over yourself for arrest, or prepared to be shot and killed. You want to be a little different, fine. But when you want to start imposing minority rule on the more populous states that are the main driver of all of America's propserity? That's when I say no.
I have no problem with my CA tax dollars going to SNAP & Medicaid, for any citizen, in any state, that needs the safety net, or poorer red states being the beneficiaries of Fed programs like CHIPS Act, BUT ONLY with a President, Cabinet & SCOTUS that respect the Constitution and rule of law.

If we want a true democracy/republic, how about we embrace the fact that such ideals are built on a foundation of inclusivity. Not blind assent, not total agreement, but simply allowing people with different views, goals, priorities to coexist. So that those groups can concentrate their energies on defeating the real enemy: Illiberalism, oligarchy, authoritarianism, theocracies.
We're in the midst of an authoritarian transition in this country. Fighting against our allies, even if we don't agree with everything they say, is contradictory and ill judged. DSA candidates have some of the best momentum and outreach out there: Bringing in youth and swing voters and undecideds who we are far more likely to be able to reach than the deeply intrenched and indoctrinated MAGA base.

The Democratic Party on a whole has FAR less reserve funding than the GOP. It has FAR less stable donations. It struggles with a coherent message. The Democratic Party also has no voice. No Leader. Hate Trump all you want, he made it clear who ran the GOP.
I am independent and refuse to register to a party. I despise Trump. Most of my life I grew up to hate communism/socialism and to applaud hard work and intelligence. Then as I grew I started to reflect. Is what we have really capitalism? Really democracy? We may call it that, but a lot of what makes up the system is NOT that. And it has certainly twisted into something we can say a large portion of the country are not best served by the current administration and state of affairs.
I won't say I will never vote for a DSA candidate. Probably not. But depends on my options. But I will say I am more open now to listening than ever before. And even IF they gained more traction, I doubt they could make everything that they want happen. And it would turn into an odd mix of political idealogies. Same as ours has warped from what we'd define it as.
So I am more at the point of if the Trump era is the consequence of decades of decadence, laziness, corruption, etc. from our democratic republic capitalistic society...............then I dunno, maybe it wouldn't be a terrible thing to change to something else. Cuz I would really like to not have billions given to masked men who can disappear non-whites, unqualified people put in some of the most important roles, an entire branch of the government abstain from its duties, another branch just flaunt common sense or decency, and the myriad of other anti-American actions from our government (GOP since Dems can't really stop them)
I think the question is not "how do we fix it?" but "what do we fix it into?" Because fixing OUR democracy will just rinse and repeat. So what do we fix our democracy into. At least DSA has an idea. Trump and the GOP have an idea (hint, it's facism). But the Dems don't. It's "go back and pretend Trump didn't happen". And they wonder why they struggle.
You might want to read the GOP platform from 1956. It's quite interesting. Democratic Socialists could have cut and paste most of their more serious policies directly from it...including national health care.

Vilifying DSA candidates who are winning elections is basically vilifying the voters who choose them. Not a good look, and certainly not a democratic one.
I heard Bernie & AOC speak to an overflow arena crowd in one of the most reliably red counties in CA during the shutdown, and the moment was electric! Bernie and AOC went on to endorse Randy Villegas in the CA 22 Dem primary, and he kicked the Dem Inc candidate’s butt. Randy’s an educator and very compelling guy- his backstory not unlike our own Sen Padilla’s- both men are the personification of what’s possible in an America that truly stands, and votes, for liberty and justice for ALL.

I'm not a fan of the DSA, but I'm in favor of doing whatever it takes to win. DSA candidates are obviously popular in NYC so I think moderate democrats should shut up and let voters in those areas elect who they want. DSA candidates won't fly in many places where moderates will do well, and that's fine too. DSA should shut up about moderates who can win in more conservative areas. I'm sure we'll get a DSA candidate in the 28 primary and candidates can fight it out for what ideology we want. Leaders of the inept Democratic party would be wise to adopt some general DSA talking points like no more aid to Israel until they stop the genocide in Gaza and whatever they're doing in Lebanon, stop sucking up to corporate donors, things like that.

It would be easy to say we ‘all know’ only 1 out of 7 eligible NY Voters voted for the 3 Democratic Socialists (and barely 2/3rds of all New Yorkers (where I was born and raised!) are even registered to vote. However, seeing how 75 million Americans voted for Trump (!) I’m not at all hopeful the DSA agenda is the way to ‘win’.
And by ‘win’ – I don’t mean winning Control of the House & Senate by a few seats. That will obviously help – but not long-term against a GOP that has spent over 35 years plotting against all of us. First by taking over the Federal courts (including the most partisan SCOTUS in our history) and then giving us the shaft with the most un-American President in our history.

I think a lot of what Chevalier has said is really gross but one person is not going to tank the presidency and will have no effect this year. Nobody even knows who she is except political weirdos like us. Republicans have tried forever to tie reasonable candidates to controversial lefties and it's never worked. I cannot condemn an entire political movement for the actions of one of their members, or the lack of condemnation from their fellows. In a pluralist form of democracy, we are supposed to save that kind of condemnation for actions that are actually illegal, harmful, criminal. Not for disagreement on policy.
I know a lot of Never Trumpers and Dems want to cleave to an idea that we need to do what the GOP did: Throw ourselves behind whatever sways the most populist attention, rallies the base and panders to as many pliable minds as possible.
I hope that *doesn't* happen. Even if we were to do so with more moral/ethical goals and slogans, it still leans in to singularity of thought, policy, etc. I cannot think of something that ultimately harms a pluralistic, liberal democracy more.
I want the Dems to unify in their message for core values: Affordability, Anti-corruption, reform of broken systems, ethical treatment of immigrants, etc. But I don't think that means they should adopt a total homogenous line on every topic under the sun. Our nation is large, full of a diversity of people: Our political parties should be able to work within that truth, rather than trying to cut it down.
Democracy is by its very nature messy and inefficient. A republic suffers much the same. But if our instinctive reaction to that is to unify in a way that cuts away differences of thought, philosophy, policies, etc... we end up losing what can make a functioning democracy so powerful.
I think our message can be as simple as this:
"We need to take back power *for* the people. So they can afford to live in this country. So their interests aren't being bartered away to the highest bidder. So they can have access to the basic necessities of life.
We do that by listening to the *people* who are voting members into power. And those messages are going to be a little different depending on what the demographic is, the reality of that county/state issues are. Maybe even very different when it comes to specific interests and policies. That is OK so long as, ultimately, it's the well being of the people and the kind of government that will actually serve them best, is what guides us."
In our zeal to unify, I, personally, don't want to see us become a polarity of our MAGA counterparts, ostracizing, silencing and fearmongering against anyone who says or advocates something we don't agree with/think will work.
If that's the only way to save us, I'm not sure we deserve to be saved.

Reading The Bulwark essay about people who have died because of cuts to USAID, I realized that none of these stories is going to convince Musk and his supporters of anything - other than make them feel superior because the stories mostly involved dead brown and black people.
As with Covid, every death is going to be dismissed - if acknowledged at all - as being caused by something else: co-morbidities, bad choices, other circumstances. Ranging from gun deaths to drought, we are all blameless because, gosh darn it, things are just so complicated.
Who can say if food would have saved that starving child when there could have been bad germs in the bowl or - who knows? - maybe the food itself could have choked her as she ate. There's just no way of knowing what's the best thing to do, so better to do nothing!

Can't count the number of calls he's gotten since T took office from people still employed. It's heartbreaking and enraging. Republicans have wanted to privatize the parks for ages. What makes me sick to my stomach is that once they're gone, they're gone forever.
And by letting the parks fall apart by not funding them, Trump can blame their state of disrepair on government incompetence and make the case for private ownership.
