If the great danger of DEI was that it would cause organizations like the Defense Department to lose sight of its core mission, why do I get the sense that the obsession of the current regime with DEI eradication is way more distracting than the implementation of DEI ever was to the old?

Agreed, and itтАЩs even worse. Firing the head of NSAтАЩs Cyber Command, because Laura Loomer said heтАЩs not loyal enough? Seriously?
Additionally, no longer allowing our intelligence agencies to target Russia, or defend against Russian Cyber attacks? Huh!!!
Seriously, whether Trump is an asset, mole, or useful idiot is irrelevant at this point; heтАЩs destroying our National Security Apparatus, in the same way heтАЩs destroyed most of our institutions, and the rule of law.
Therefore, if Russia could invent its perfect chaos agent to unleash on America, IтАЩd say Trump fits the bill perfectly!тАж:)
Now why the heck would Trump want to keep the Russians out of our National Security Apparatus? PutinтАЩs suffered right through the тАЬRussia, Russia, RussiaтАЭ hoax with him, and he might be able to help him out some more if heтАЩs able to tinker away in there.
Agreed! I think itтАЩs best the two of them attend couples therapy. My god, theyтАЩve been victimized so badly over the years; the likes of which, no one has ever seen beforeтАж:)
I spent 45 years in DoD as both a soldier and senior civil servant. тАЬDEIтАЭ does not dominate the military or cause it to тАЬlose sight of its mission.тАЭ While I admit that some of the тАЬequal opportunityтАЭ training was annoying or even silly, usually it was oriented toward fairness, respect and merit. The rightтАЩs demonization of DEI and assumption that any effort to celebrate ethnic pride is corrosive to military readiness and disrespectful of our service members.
Very applicable statement to most corporations in general as well. For example the company I am with has a strong diversity program but the messaging is simply: "given candidates equally qualified, please consider someone different to the team (culture, background, ethnicity, ...) in order to diversify the group-think." No pressure, not in your face, just common sense.
Yes, I thought Ed's comment applied to my experiences in academia as well. For most "prog profs" the training was also redundant, but hey, we justified it by following the sound pedagogic principle that a little repetition never hurts learning. (That is, repetition of sound, moral principles, not the "flooding the zone" repetitions of Bannonesque BS.).
"Know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained, you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle." - Sun Tzu

Well, there you go again, Lewis.
Sheesh!
Common sense like this is just so... so... so 20th century!!

Ed - the truth seems very simple when you express it this clearly!
The intentional choice to NOT understand the experiences and views of others has been at the root of many a military defeat.
"Know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained, you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle." - Sun Tzu
Purging the Nimitz Library helps us how?
Okay Mike, that makes my simple idea sound more convincing than I ever could ЁЯЩВ. That Sun shone a pretty bright light
Both James Clavell andThomas Cleary did fantastic translations. Worth a read!
This whole administration is Orwellian. But wait; thereтАЩs probably an Orwellian reason to remove Orwell as well.
Good point!тАж:)
You have to hide the playbook...
