"Roger Christian Murphy". I recall an interview I once heard with Raja where he reflected on his earliest campaigns in Illinois running for office. He went door to door to introduce himself, and sometimes people repeated his name back to him as "Roger Christian Murphy?" As if no one of his Indian background would actually be running for important office in the state. And amazingly, it seemed like some folks said, "Well, OK, Roger. You seem like a good guy, out here meeting your future constituents. My vote seems to matter to you." And what do you know? Roger won. More than once.

IMO, this is a really good guy, and exactly the kind of even tempered, thoughtful and politically competent leader we need a lot more of. And I hope he next runs for the Senate. And goes door to door saying, " I'm Raja. You know me by now by my correct name. And I want your vote." Raja 2032? That's not pie in the sky, IMHO.

From this short exchange, this is a great example of someone who appears to value working as a team, even across the aisle. I appreciated his near slip when he started to say "my friends" and corrected himself by saying "my colleagues." He also answered the question about redistricting not as an individual, but as someone part of a coalition, which puts the focus on the idea and not on one lone legislator. Although we do need people who may accelerate change with sharp, sometimes offensive positions, we also need people like Mr. Krisnamoorthi who can build relationships. He seems to be looking at a long-term vision of rebuilding our government. Very much appreciate having someone with a mechanical engineering education background.

Everyone needs to read the fucking constitution. Article II provides for a weak executive, really. The president has no constitutional authority to reject congressional oversight! Read ARTICLE II people, there is no Republican "unitary executive", none! The ONLY reason that Trump is able to get away with these crimes is because the Republicans are fully behind this, including those on the SCOTUS. All should hang.

Absolutely. The “unitary executive” theory is a reactionary, counter American-revolutionary change to the plain meaning of the Constitution. It was invented by so-called nativists who can’t stand, among other things, people they don’t like (black people, more recent immigrants in a nation of immigrants, even though women, etc.) being able to vote.

Not on my watch.

I realize how much I enjoy watching the podcast participants and their facial expressions. The visual is so much an integral part of communication. That said: I enjoyed the content of the discussion. The Congressman is a very direct, clear and respectful communicator. Since I receive the majority of my news from the Bulwark, I appreciate updates like this.

Congressman Raja is my Representative. I didn't have same perception that he was mincing his words. He is a pretty even-tempered guy, and is very visible to his constituents, working to keep us informed through town halls and emails.

This is my first exposure to him, and I appreciated his even temperament as he covered the multiple very serious issues.

Rajasthan is running for Dick Durbin's Senate position. I think he would add a fresh contribution.

I can't think of a better person for Durbin's seat.

I was disturbed by the way the Congressman minced his words describing the horrors of ICE and the abuse his constituents have suffered. This is the absolute worst, criminal administration in the history of the republic. Call them out for it! Get angry!
