The narrative straight out of the gates was that this was Left vs. Right violence. The investigation is ongoing, but so far it sounds like the same situation we’ve all grown accustomed to; angry young man, bullied in school, buys a gun. I won’t be convinced this was politically motivated or about political rhetoric until this kid’s whole story unravels.

I recommend everyone read this post by Historian Timothy Snyder. This goes especially for any Bulwark hosts who may be too quick to buy into the idea that the shooter must be a product of the Democratic side of things. https://open.substack.com/pub/snyder/p/political-violence?r=1ibb7&utm_medium=ios

You imply the hosts of Bulwark take this position. They don’t. It seems you don’t actually listen to them.

In my comment yesterday morning, I was going by how Tim and Sam had sounded during Sunday’s podcast. Based on how Tim (and Bill) sounded in yesterday’s podcast, I do not think they are under that misconception, at least not any longer. I am a Bulwark Plus member and a huge fan of Tim’s (and JVL’s and Sarah’s etc) who listens to every episode of every podcast they put out.

Over at Bari Weiss’s The Free Press the comments are 100% that this shooting is the fault of the Democrats, and specifically it’s the fault of Democrats saying Trump is a fascist and akin to Hitler. They also think the Secret Service is incompetent (noting that it’s run by a woman like that’s a bad thing) and that the FBI will engage in a “cover up” of the true machinations behind the shooting (because the FBI can’t be trusted, Hunter Biden laptop, Steele Dossier, etc etc). And they definitely don’t see any reason for gun control just because this happened. The solution is put all the Democrats in jail because “Democrats are Satan”. There are some mean, vicious people over there.

That's certainly possible, but the reality is that any time a politician is shot at, it's going to be cast as politically motivated whether it is or not. That's why there are conspiracy theories to this day about the Kennedy assassination. People simply don't want to believe that a random nutcase with a gun could shoot a president and change history for no good reason.

Hinckley shot Reagan to impress a girl. The truth is usually boring. We should let the whole story come out.
