I'll admit it -- I'm a horror movie fan and really enjoyed the first M3gan. An AI robot companion doll that turns homicidal whenever its young owner is threatened? Sign me up! The movie was clever, entertaining, and darkly funny, and the rogue AI angle is topical for today's times.
So I was really looking forward to M3gan 2.0. I hadn't watched the trailer on purpose so as not to be spoiled. But the purported tonal switch from horror to action comedy concerned me, as did the meager $10M opening. I finally watched the trailer thanks to the link in this article and yep, it's a very bad sign when the best scenes in a trailer are all footage from the first film. Now leaning towards wait-until-it's-streaming -- which will probably be soon anyway.
I'm down to seeing maybe 1 movie a year in theaters, I think Superman will be the one for me this year even though I found Gunn's last movie GOTG 3 disappointing.
I’m sorry but any other recommendation but “1776” for a movie this week is malpractice. Yes Independence Day is good but did Nixon try and have it censored? Nope.
Honestly, the trailers and ads are part of the reason I will skip seeing movies in theaters. I used to LOVE trailers--they were often the best part of the experience, little enticements and promises of future enjoyment. Now they're cookie-cutter, joyless, overlong drags that feel like someone who thinks I'm stupid explaining the entire movie to me. I will still show up at or before showtime, but I spend as much time away from my seat as possible to avoid seeing the trailer/ad segments.
The most consistent exception, in my mind, were the trailers for the prime Marvel movies: they whetted your appetite, they didn't give away the plot, and even misdirected your expectations in such a way that you didn't feel lied to, so you could still be surprised by the movie. Best example of this was the first Black Panther teaser, which I still go back and watch.
I have not seen either 'Megan,' but - w/r/t your comments on the trailer - I can't quite get over the fact that the actual trailer was not too dissimilar to the SNL sketch parodying what a 'Megan' sequel would be.
My vote is wait until it streams somewhere because I couldn’t care less about any movie in any theater at any time… Honestly, don’t we have much bigger things to worry about? Like this big beautiful bill that just signed a death warrant for millions of Americans? How about that? Or maybe the Department of Health and Human Services deciding that my grandchildren don’t need vaccinations… Just because… and oh wait, there’s also the fact that I cannot trace my lineage back to the Mayflower and I was a Democrat for my entire adult life. That last one definitely worries me… I also can’t prove my lineage back to American Indians, even though there’s one in my family…but they don’t count anyway, right? Now what about that movie?

I do NOT miss theaters.
So, did you end up seeing Megan 2? And?
(Shhh, I kind of liked the first one. Don't tell anyone.)
One of the reasons to see Jurassic World is to see the trailer for The Odyssey, which played after the AMC promos.
Which just goes to show that ain’t nobody else but Nolan has that kind of pull.
On thr few times that I see a movie in a multiplex I always feel totally bludgeoned by the number of trailers.
Most trailers are instantly forgettable. The M3gan trailer sounds very icky.

Hahaha yeah.
Latest Jurassic Park…
Saw it at the Roxy in Northampton PA - everyone pays $5 admission and popcorn is cheap
Which was about the right price.
Needs the big screen and (spoiler alert) the kids all survive
Having seen it, would be better to have on during Sunday afternoon naptime than golf.
Wait, don't tell me, do the dinosaurs chase people and there's running and screaming? :-)
My guess is yes.
$5 for first run? That’s amazing.

Luckily there is no shortage of coverage about this on the rest of the site!
After rethinking this, I want to say I don’t want to spend $30 to see a movie that I can stream in a few months. Sorry, Disney or whoever.
Ok sorry.
