“President Trump has calculated through every permutation and every degree of strategy,” and that we are en route to “an overwhelming victory.”

Apparently not a parody.

Lil Stevie Miller. Revenge of the Nerds meets Doctor Evil. I grow ever weary of hearing the fascist garbage coming out of his fat mouth. He’s a pathetic joke of a person, like Hermann Goering, but he has already brought misery, and death to many, like Goering. How many total dead by the end, I wonder?

LHS's avatar

Like I keep saying, remember that Brave, Brave Sir Stephen bravely turned his back and fled to safe, secure military housing after some demonstrators held up signs and *gasp* wrote in chalk on the sidewalk in front of his house.

Greg WF's avatar

Yep, he’s a gutless creep. At the end, he’ll be one of the first ones to sneak out of the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, as Trump screams, and rants, as he pushes ICE, and Border Patrol paramilitary unit symbols around on a map showing the area of the Potomac, and Anacostia Rivers. Units that are shattered remnants by that time.

I guess we’ll see. Some of us, maybe?

David Court's avatar

My zero. (Somehow, my keyboard refuses to print the "h" instead of the "z".) That was just a tactical retreat to foam at the mouth another day.

Colleen Kochivar-Baker's avatar

He's much more a Himmler than a Goering. I wish Miller would spend more time stealing artworks than whispering in Trump's ear.

Richard Thomas's avatar

Yeah, Goering was an utterly amoral corrupt fascist in the Trump mould who didn’t much care about the details of Nazi ideology only the opportunities for self enrichment and aggrandisement that being a in a senior leadership position gave him. The Reichswerke Hermann Göring, which served as his personal slush fund, was the largest industrial concern in Europe, some sources claim the world, by the end of 1941. All built from looted and expropriated assets and a massive user of slave labour.

Miller strikes me more as an ideologically committed fascist. Though I’d argue that Heydrich is the more apt comparison than Himmler given that Heydrich was the senior Nazi most closely involved in organising and overseeing the removal of ‘undesriable’ racial elements from German society and the primary architecht of the Holocaust. They even look somewhat similar.

Terry Mc Kenna's avatar

I'd pick Goebbels (for the propaganda).

Colleen Kochivar-Baker's avatar

I picked Himmler for the immigration cruelty and the camps. Propaganda is his hobby, not his perceived mission

Terry Mc Kenna's avatar

So many good choices.

R Mercer's avatar

Nah, Miller is not a propagandist by any stretch of the imagination. He also generally prefers to keep his head down. More a Himmler than a Goebbels.

Clay Banes's avatar

To give Stephen Miller his due, he's a lot of Nazis rolled into one.

Trump's no doubt worn out and in need of a little R & R after all that work.

Might I suggest he try spending a little time on the water as another famous wartime president did. FDR reportedly found sailing aboard his official presidential yacht the U.S.S. Potomac relaxing and refreshing, even during WWII.

Of course, being a wartime president himself, Donald would need a yacht worthy of his stature and fit for such duty.

Maybe his pal Jeff Bezos could loan him his little puddle jumper for a little excursion through the Strait of Hormuz.

I can't picture Trump on a yacht just enjoying the breeze. He doesn't seem to take ANY kind of innocent pleasure in the simple joys of life. Can you even imagine him fishing, or playing fetch with a dog, or bouncing a grandchild on his knee? I don't think he is capable of feeling happiness, in any true sense of the word. Which is why he takes his malice out on the rest of the world. Sauron, indeed.

Did you ever wonder what America would feel like if we had a perverted, corrupt, fascist dictator as our "leader". Well, check it out. We've arrived. The question we keep asking ourselves, "What are WE going to do about it?" becomes more pressing everyday. The world envisioned by Trump's brain and enabled by his cultist syncophants cannot be allowed to continue.

How we rise up to stop it is urgent.

JMP's avatar

You got that right - the V-Dem Institute at the University of Gothenburg says that U.S. democracy is currently in a much faster deterioration process than any other democracy in modern times. Within only one year, the USA’s score on the V-Dem Liberal Democracy index has declined by 24 percent, while its world rank dropped from 20th to 51st place out of 179 nations. Freedom of expression, a core aspect of democracy, shows the most drastic global decline, and is the most common target among autocratizing leaders over the past 25 years. We must rise up because, we, the people, are the only ones who can stop the likes of Trump and his cadre of goons trying to stifle our freedom.

Claudia johnson's avatar

They don’t even lie well.

R Mercer's avatar

They do not need to lie well--in fact it is better to lie poorly.

By lying poorly they put everyone else in a bind. What they say is obviously BS, most people who are not lost in the weeds of MAGA know it is BS (and this includes the vast majority of GoP politicians). What you have done is forced them to swallow and support your BS, which further locks them into you.

If you do not go with the bad lie, you obviously suffer from TDS or you are not one of US. It helps draw and then reinforce in and out group boundaries.

It is a display of dominance and a process that leads ultimately to their total corruption and subservience. There is always some new BS to swallow and support, some new and more embarrasssing way to demonstrate your loyalty.

All because you did not call BS the first time, but went along... and went along... and went along. Deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole each time. More and more compromised... until you absolutely MUST cling to and support the horrific things because you have nowhere else to go.

Mike Lew's avatar

Yup, bad lying is all about dominance.

JMP's avatar
Mar 19Edited

Exactly. Megalomania: "obsession with the exercise of power, especially in the domination of others." Power over others is his M.O., but it's the domination that Trump really gets off on. He is a sick, twisted individual. The sooner he is out of the picture, the better off we will all be and the sooner our country can self-correct and heal.

max skinner's avatar

Besides, according to the VP, you have to lie in order to make a point.

Jed Rothwell's avatar

Yes! You have hit the nail on the head.

First, because a lie that excludes smart people, leaving only gullible fools, serves their purpose. Microsoft Research explained why in an article, "Why Do Nigerian Scammers Say They are From Nigeria?" See:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/publication/why-do-nigerian-scammers-say-they-are-from-nigeria/

Second, because an obvious lie intimidates people. It flusters them. This is the Big Lie Nazi technique.

The WSJ proclaims that Hegseth sets no time on ending the war -- only when Trump decides. Tell me this is not autocracy. Who stops this juggernaut of psychosis?

Daphne McHugh's avatar

Let’s hope that hubris=doom comes for Hegseth!

julia dream's avatar

I am beyond understanding why this "unpopular" war gets so much support from Congress. "In a 53 to 47 vote, a Democrat-led effort to restrict Mr. Trump from taking military action in Iran fell short for a third time." Yesterday! Are Americans informing their GOP Senators that we're all good on this? So only the SENATE and Trump and Hegseth support this war. And if Trump, Hegseth, and the Senate decide to [fill in the blank], we're all going.

Sherri Priestman's avatar

I think so far, based on polls I saw yesterday, this war hasn’t caused a big dip in his already low approval. There is some rally round the flag, and a fair number who only know gas has gone up because of “war in Iran.” Doubtful they even know it was unprovoked.

Marc Schneider's avatar

On one of talk shows, there was a comment that makes some sense, ie, that the electorate is already so polarized over Trump that you won't see much change regardless of what happens. He is already unpopular but he won't become much more unpopular because his base would support him, as he once said, if he shot someone on 5th Avenue

Sherri Priestman's avatar

That seems right to me, but I am not sure where the bottom of his approval is. It might be 30% or so. We’ll find out, maybe!

Dave Yell's avatar

An issue suitable for framing in the midterms.

JMP's avatar

Yes. If Hegseth spent as much time reading the bible as he does promoting it, he would understand the text from Proverbs 16:18... "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."

MoosesMom's avatar

Both are a luxury none of our politicians should be afforded, assuming the ones that ever had either can manage to find them after the corruption and cronyism they've been engaged in. Its past time we reminded people laws, government, and taxes are a kindness we extend to wealthy individuals as an alternative to keep them from being dragged from thier homes in the middle of the night by an angry mob. A little mob justice would be very educational for some very self important people in the US.

Ben Gruder's avatar

In all fairness, it is not just Miller. Every single cabinet member gushes ass-kissing praise in Trump's cabinet meetings. It's truly disgusting. But I suspect they all do practice in front of a mirror.

Jeri in Tx's avatar

Oh, yes, I've seen the round table flowery bjs. It's gag-inducing.

Lockers for Everyone!

D.J. Spiny Lumpsucker's avatar

Consider the possibility that Miller might not be totally wrong. Everything is calculated, there is a strategy, and Trump is en route to victory.... just not in Iran. I mean, Trump couldn't give a shit about Iran. The strategy he needs, and no doubt has his underlings calculating, is a plan to retain power past the midterm elections. Like to cheat, intervene, cancel, or coup. Any of which could be served by an ongoing state of warscursion. FFS, he's in this with Bibi, and that's the Bibi plan - no peace, no trial and conviction.

The thing that bugs me about Bulwark analyses is too much credit is given to the power of people - stupid or rotten as they may be imagined to be. It doesn't matter if MTG or Joe Kent or any number of rank-and-file voters change their tune. They're not the real constituency. That would be billionaire oligarchs, finance capital, the Murdochs and Ellisons and Sinclairs. If the money moves off of him he gets to move in with Maduro, and we'll see who the Epstein class casts as Delcey in the reboot.

Ben Gruder's avatar

It's true that Trump is always looking for the grift, pleasing the money men, and finding any pretext to invoke some state of war or emergency to mess with elections. But the only reason he wants to mess with elections is because too many ordinary people are poised to vote out the R Congress, maybe including the Senate. He is scared to death of a non-compliant Congress. He saw what happened with endless investigations into Hillary and doesn't want to see that happen to his administration. Re Iran, aside from money and power, Trump loves blowing things up, exerting military might in ways he thinks don't pose any risk to him. But, he also loves settling old scores. He doesn't have many convictions but he is sore at Iran for them taking US hostages in 1980. Vendettas are a dominant part his 'value' system.

D.J. Spiny Lumpsucker's avatar

Not the only reason. He'd want to blow up democracy just on general principles and as payback to the evil Dems and RINOs the don't lick his boots. He's bat shit insane, which, among other things, let's him hold utterly contrary thoughts simultaneously. E.g. he is scared of losing the House majority, but also confident fate will deliver him the total authoritarian control EVERYONE would beg him to assume if only they were truly smart.

Another problem with analyses of Trump and MAGA: they keep trying to make too much sense, and just aren't up to grappling with how thoroughly insane our situation is now.

Bill: "Instead of receiving intelligence briefings, President Trump is watching Fox. And what he heard last night was his most influential aide, Stephen Miller, telling Laura Ingraham that “President Trump has calculated through every permutation and every degree of strategy,” and that we are en route to “an overwhelming victory.”"

< Tim spits out his coffee and starts laughing hysterically >

I have to hand it to Miller and Ingraham for their commitment to the bit. Their contempt for Fox's viewership is off the charts. Then again, the role of Fox in 2026 is to tell their viewers what they want to hear. I look forward to the day when gas is $10/gallon and Miller is crowing about Trump's strategic genius on Ingraham's show, and I look forward to it because I know the viewers are going to believe Miller instead of the evidence of their shrinking wallets.

2024? Feels like a lifetime ago. But I do remember when Trump pulled out of the JCPOA. If he was really worried about Iran "getting the bomb", then why didn't he and his national security team come up with a replacement that our allies would have supported?

I honestly think Fox viewers would prefer to hear the real truth; and if Fox ever gave it to them, it would perhaps jolt them out of their cultish complacency.

Tim Coffey's avatar

If that were true, are these viewers also aware that Fox had to shell out something like $787 million to settle a lawsuit with Dominion regarding the claims Fox anchors made about Dominion's voting equipment in the 2020? Because if they *were* aware, they could reasonably conclude Fox was lying to their viewership.

JMP's avatar
Mar 20Edited

I doubt it. I know Fox had to apologize for misrepresenting the facts, but not sure they had to mention the payout. And it would have been easy to miss the apology if they weren't watching for it. It is easy for folks on our side to see the lies because they are talked about endlessly on the media we watch and read. We are constantly exposed to the real Trump by watching video clips of him being stupid and making things up. Fox viewers are not exposed to that. Although I use a variety of sources: New York Times, Bulwark, Guardian, Reuters, MSNOW, PBS, Adam Mockler, Rick Wilson, The Hill, etc., you could not pay me enough to watch Fox celebrities. I can't stomach it. So I understand Fox viewers' reluctance to tune in to a left leaning program. I do feel safe asking my Fox-watching friends to at least watch PBS Newshour, but it often isn't on their cable availability, although Fox ALWAYS is. I tell them to watch it on You Tube. It's reliable and not exactly left wing. Small steps.

Maybe we need to admit that our culture has been dumbing down for the last 20 years. No one reads, no one is capable of critical thinking. Yet, the dumbasses are “super excited” about anything that smacks of anti intellectualism. Sad state of affairs.

Peter Hart's avatar

I am tired of the anti Trump rant bell jar by all the pundits who have no agency. Maybe it is time to invoke the serenity prayer and leave it for future generations to figure it all out. In the meantime I am contemplating returning to my bell jar— literature, music, art, long distance swimming, hiking, mountaineering and skiing.

No masks or no deal on ICE.

Ben Gruder's avatar

That's the ballgame. It would cut the legs out of the basic myth that ICE (and really, all things Trump) are special creatures deserving of special protection, permission, leeway, and deference because they are so persecuted by 'domestic woke terrorists'. Therefore, the masks will be the LAST thing Rs agree to, if they ever agree to it. Trump will lean on them hard not to budge. Yet we cannot call America a free country while we have secret police at the beck and call of the president.

Christine's avatar

It should be no masks and no guns. The ranks would dwindle to nothing.

Ben Gruder's avatar

Or at least do a deep psych profile before issuing a gun.

In the strange, hate-filled world of Donald J Trump, he has a special meaning for the world "WE". You might think that our fake POTUS means "my fellow Americans". Nope. You'd be wrong. When he says "WE" it's limited to his supporters or allies or corrupt collaborators. He NEVER means "We the People". His WE is referring to those who will become richer because of higher oil prices while 95% of Americans will become poorer. The "WE" of "SO MUCH WINNING" from tariffs are the Trump family and the upper 5% of taxpayers, NOT the People and so it goes into a war with Iran. WE the PEOPLE must do whatever it takes to save ourselves and the nation

Kass McGann's avatar

Not even that. It's "The Royal We". He doesn't mean anyone but himself. No one else exists in his sick mind. He should have been locked in a rubber room long ago. This man shouldn't have control over a children's toy much less a country.

He has never understood that being President means serving and protecting the entire population of the United States, regardless of political persuasion, or degree of loyalty to the Dear Leader.

Kevin's avatar

Hey, Trump is being consistent when he says we destroyed 100% of their military's capability. He absolutely means that. But like with drug prices, he probably has another 1500% or 1600% yet to go in reducing Iran's military capability. We're holding him to objective, verifiable math standards when he's talking in raving lunatic idiot math. Cut the man some slack.

Robert Jaffee's avatar

Is anyone truly shocked at this point as to how this war—special military exercise will play out?

Just ask yourself one question. When was the last time Trump actually cared about the Presidential Daily Brief or listens to the intelligence experts?

That said, the only time I’ve ever seen Trump care about National Security is when he left the Whitehouse with 300 of the nations most critical secrets, refused to acknowledge he had them, and then refused to give them back!

Therefore, you need to ask yourself, which team is Trump truly fighting for, because to me, it’s definitely feels like he’s not fighting for America!🇺🇸

Tim Coffey's avatar

As with all of Trump's actions, the only question that matters is how much Trump benefits financially. He's a pig at the trough and always has been.

Robert Jaffee's avatar

Can’t disagree with that; well said!…:)

Tim Coffey's avatar

In fact, I would bet someone has already done a "Downfall" parody where the English captions are Trump's military advisors are explaining to him how badly things are going.

Dave Yell's avatar

Mirror, mirror on the wall. What s best for Tump is best for all.

Lynn Bentson's avatar

I have always thought he sold or even gave that defense info at many levels of classification to the Russians ,while living in "exile " at MAL and I still think so .

JMP's avatar

Absolutely. Why else would he have wanted to keep those documents other than to benefit financially? I still think some of the most incriminating docs are buried on his golf course in the coffin next to Ivana. Her death just happened to coincide with his need to hide them. And it is a fact that his valet, Walt Nauta, was coordinating the movement of some of those boxes around Mar-a-Lago, onto private planes, and God knows where else. I don't believe the FBI collected all of them and we don't know where the loose ones ended up. It is a mystery that should be solved as quickly as possible once Trump and his crooked DOJ and FBI are gone.

Mike Lew's avatar

He watches the shows. How much more informed can a president be? /s

Robert Jaffee's avatar

And he also talks to Putin—a lot! I’d love to be a fly on the wall for that…:)

JMP's avatar

I wish someone on the Senate Intelligence Committee would have asked Tulsi Gabbard this: "Who is giving the President his daily intelligence briefing? How often? Can you provide records?" When they find out, they should drag THAT person in to answer questions: "Does the President listen to your briefings? How much time do you spend with him on a daily basis? Do you think he understands what you are saying? Can you state one of his actions or policies that was enacted in accordance with any of your assessments?" I sometimes wonder if these Senators are capable of forming and asking the right questions that will elicit answers that are of any use.

Dave Yell's avatar

Trumpster needs graphics.(pictures) at his PDB s. He can barely read.

Robert Jaffee's avatar

Agreed, which is why the intelligence agencies are one step ahead of you; they made the new PDB a pop-up book!🤪

Iran has been preparing for unconventional war with the US and meanwhile Russia has been engaged in decades of unconventional warfare against the US. Trump had ignited the former and has facilitated the latter.

JMP's avatar

Putin would like nothing better than to use this war with Iran to damage the United States, guaranteeing that we will not be able to come to the aid of Ukraine, now, or in the future.

"The average price of a gallon of gasoline is now about $3.88, according to AAA. In eight states, it’s over $4/gallon."

Biden, er . . . . . Trump did this.

Chandu's avatar

Micky Maga from Dufusville, Alabama explains to WSJ:

You see by Biden not ending the 47 year war while he was president, the Patriot's Patriot™️ Trump has to take it on himself to end this long standing war once and for all.

So, if you can twist your logic enough times, anyone can clearly see that Biden is the reason oil price is increasing again!!!!

orbit's avatar

That, seriously, is MAGA's key talking point regarding Trump's war.

Nevermind that Orange45 did nothing about it during his first term.

TomD's avatar

Here in California, we *dream* of regular gas at $3.88.

Linda Oliver's avatar

I’m told by another CA resident that that is Gavin Newsom’s fault. Hail Donald.

TomD's avatar

Primarily, it's because CA elects to achieve a greater part of taxes collected via a gas tax than other states; and because air quality regs require different formulas at different times of the year.

Lynn Bentson's avatar

Oregon same - average 4.49 (though I pay more in my college town) , Costco is 4.29 so whenever Idrive past Costco 13 miles away I fill up

In northern CA, regular is mid-fives and diesel is nosing above six.

Darn! Why is my state, Oregon, always one of the states where gas is always higher than average? I understand that eggs are always higher because, by law, we only allow eggs from cage-free hens to be sold in stores. But gas? Why???!!!???
