Maybe for MAGA, the Russia-Ukraine War isn't an invasion, rather it's a kinetic adjustment of borders. Without sarcasm, good Christian Russia attacking semi-godless, LGBTQ+-loving Ukraine is praiseworthy to the US Christian right. However, Occam's razor suggests MAGA just doesn't care what Russia is trying to do to Ukraine, but they do care about nonwhites in Europe.
The real solution, which is probably impossible, would be to somehow figure how to insure that all countries provide a safe and prosperous environment for all their citizens. Why must people emigrate en mass to more prosperous and safe countries because they can't safe and prosperous in their own. I've spoken to many immigrants who miss their homeland and would rather live there than in Europe or North America.
I have a weird view of immigration and racism. Several years ago I had a female friend who had lived in France and became involved with a French man who was educated and a professional. She wanted to move back to the US with him.
He came with her, but it was impossible for him to get residency and a temporary work permit. They were told he could only get a temp work permit if they were married. Meanwhile, at the immigration office, people from third world countries were easily getting temporary work permits and visas.
Clearly immigration is much easier for cheap labor than for people from developed countries who are educated. They eventually were married, but it still took time to get a work permit.
Maybe Pete should reflect upon his Norwegian ancestors who fled Europe for the opportunity for a better life in this country--everyone here is an immigrant, from the peoples who crossed from Asia
30,000+ years ago to populate this land to the new arrivals landing today--what gives Hegseth his air of primacy that his ancestor's arrival time predates that of others when the people who got here first were the victims of genocide and dispossession by later arrivals
Especially in the context of Ukraine, I sometimes wish something like this could happen:
A valiant reporter would, when called upon, say “I really like that tie you’re wearing, Mr. President!”
What happens next would depend on his response, of course. Presumably he would kvell and preen, and hopefully eventually prod the reporter to continue.

The point is that the intrepid reporter could then say “I’m going to come up there and take it right off your neck.“

My assumption is that in the best case the poor reporter would be thrown out out of the room and denied access to ever again attend a press conference with the president.
But quite possibly they would be escorted out by the Secret Service in handcuffs and would henceforth be subject to all kinds of government surveillance for threatening the life of the president.
So it would indeed take someone of extraordinary courage to even try a stunt like that.
